As many as 409 companies are operating in Gujarat International Finance Tec City - International Financial Services Centre (GIFT IFSC) as on July 31, 2025, Parliament was informed on Monday. Homegrown L&T Energy GreenTech Ltd and Japan-based ITOCHU Corporation have joined hands to develop a green ammonia project of 300 kilo tonne per annum (KTPA) capacity in Gujarat, to target opportunities in the maritime sector. The project will come up over a land parcel acquired by parent Larsen & Toubro (L&T) at Kandla in Gujarat last year, L&T Energy GreenTech Ltd (LTEG) said in a statement on Wednesday. Gujarat retained its position as India's top exporting state in 2024-25, with outbound shipments worth Rs 9.83 lakh crore, accounting for 26.6 per cent of the country's total exports, FIEO said on Tuesday. It said despite a marginal dip from the previous year, Gujarat's exports remained significantly ahead of all other states, nearly Rs 4.3 lakh crore more than Maharashtra (Rs 5,57,271 crore), the second-ranked state. Maharashtra is followed by Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, Uttar Pradesh, Andhra Pradesh and Telangana, according to the analysis of the Federation of Indian Export Organisations (FIEO). India's marine fish catch fell slightly in 2024 to 3.47 million tonnes, down two per cent from the previous year, the Central Marine Fisheries Research Institute (CMFRI) said on Monday. Gujarat landed the most fish for the year at 754,000 tonnes, followed by Tamil Nadu with 679,000 tonnes and Kerala with 610,000 tonnes, CMFRI said in its annual estimates. Indian mackerel topped the catch list at 263,000 tonnes, followed by oil sardine at 241,000 tonnes. Across the country, landings of mackerel, threadfin breams, oil sardine, ribbonfish, non-penaeid shrimps and cephalopods fell from 2023 levels. But catches of lesser sardines, penaeid shrimps, anchovies and tuna increased. While the west coast region suffered an overall decrease in landings, the east coast showed an increasing trend, with exceptions in Maharashtra and Andhra Pradesh, it said. The properties of the arrested accused, Mohammad Yunus alias Manjro, have been attached under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act on the orders of NIA special court, Ahmedabad, in the case, they said. The Gujarat High Court has said the setting up of a five-member committee on Uniform Civil Code (UCC) by the state government cannot be said to have caused prejudice to any class of people, and does not warrant its interference. A single bench of Justice Niral R Mehta on Tuesday rejected a plea challenging the constitution of the committee and seeking the court's direction for its reconstitution as there was no representation of minority communities. The selection of the committee members would be "within the absolute domain of the state government," the court said. On February 4 this year, Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel announced the formation of the committee to assess the necessity of the UCC and also to draft a bill for it. A tremor of 3.3 magnitude hit Gujarat's Kutch district on Thursday morning, the Institute of Seismological Research (ISR) said. The tremor was recorded at 9.52 am, with its epicentre located 16 km south-south west of Bela in the district, the Gandhinagar-based ISR said. No casualty or damage to property was reported because of the tremor, a district disaster response official said. Kutch district is located in a "very high risk" seismic zone, and earthquakes of lower intensity occur regularly there. The 2001 earthquake in Kutch was the third largest and second most destructive in India over the last two centuries. A large number of towns and villages in the district suffered almost complete destruction, killing 13,800 persons and leaving 1.67 lakh injured.

Chemical firm SRF Ltd will invest nearly Rs 750 crore to set up an agro-chemical plant in Gujarat and a BOPP film manufacturing facility in Indore as part of its expansion plan. Gurugram-based SRF Ltd has a diversified business comprising fluorochemicals, specialty chemicals, performance films & foil, technical textiles, and coated and laminated fabrics. The company's board on July 23 approved the setting up of a facility to produce agrochemicals at Dahej, Gujarat, at a cost of Rs 250 crore. The facility at Dahej will produce 12,000 tonnes per annum of an agrochemical intermediate. This project will be completed in 18 months, according to the latest regulatory filing. The board also approved a Rs 490 crore investment to set up a BOPP (Biaxially Oriented Polypropylen) film manufacturing facility in Indore, featuring a state-of-the-art 10.4m wide Bruckner film line and a metalliser. The Gujarat chief minister's office (CMO) and the state secretariat in Gandhinagar received a bomb threat email, which turned out to be a hoax after a thorough search of the premises, police said on Saturday. A state government official received an email on July 17, in which the sender threatened to blow up the CMO and secretariat complex in the state capital, Deputy Superintendent of Police Divyaprakash Gohil said. "The Gandhinagar police, along with the CM security wing, swung into action on the same day and conducted a thorough search in the entire premises with the help of the bomb detection and disposal squad and other agencies," he said. The official said the threat turned out to be a hoax as nothing suspicious was found. "An FIR has been registered against the unidentified sender under relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and the Information Technology Act," he said.
