Senior advocate Kapil Sibal, appearing for Mahmudabad, termed the filing of the chargesheet as "most unfortunate" and said they have booked him under section 152 of BNS (sedition), whose validity is under challenge. The US government has deported 1,703 Indian nationals, including 141 women, so far in 2025, the government informed Parliament on Friday. Minister of State for External Affairs Kirti Vardhan Singh, in a written response to another query, also told Lok Sabha that the number of Indian nationals deported from the US in the last five years (2020-2024) stood at 5,541. The number of Indian nationals deported from the UK in the last five years (2020-2024) is 311. In 2025 (till date), the number of Indians deported from the UK is 131, he said. Adani Total Gas Ltd on Monday reported an 8 per cent fall in its June quarter net profit after a cut in supply of cheaper domestically produced gas led to higher input prices. Net profit was Rs 162 crore in April-June - the first quarter of 2025-26 fiscal year - compared with Rs 177 crore a year back, according to a company statement. Cost of natural gas, which the firm converts into CNG for sale to automobiles and pipes to household kitchens for cooking, rose 31 per cent to Rs 1,049 crore in the quarter. This is because lower allocation of cheaper domestic gas, called APM for CNG segment, had to be replaced with high-priced gas from other sources. Revenue from operations rose by 21 per cent to Rs 1,491 crore "on account of the higher volume, primarily on CNG segment," the firm said. During the quarter, the firm added one CNG station to take the network strength to 650 and expanded piped connection to 9.90 lakgh by adding 26,869 new homes. Combined CNG and piped natural gas (PNG)

The Supreme Court has cautioned states against their "land-for-land" policies and said such schemes should be floated in rarest of the rare cases. A bench of Justices J B Pardiwala and R Mahadevan further said a plea of deprivation of right to livelihood under Article 21 of the Constitution to oppose the land acquisition by the state was unsustainable as it called the litigation pursued by Haryana as an eye opener" for all states. The bench was acting on a batch of pleas filed by the Estate Officer of Haryana Urban Development Authority and others challenging the Punjab and Haryana High Court's 2016 decision that upheld the trial court decrees favoring oustees. The Enforcement Directorate on Wednesday conducted searches in multiple cities of Punjab and Haryana as part of a money laundering investigation into a 'donkey route' case related to illegal Indian immigrants who were deported by the US this year, official sources said. Offices and houses of suspects and agents in at least 11 cities in the two states -- Amritsar, Sangrur, Patiala and Moga in Punjab and Ambala, Kurukshetra and Karnal in Haryana-- are being raided under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA), the sources said. The money laundering case stems from 17 FIRs registered by Punjab and Haryana police departments against the travel/visa agents and middlemen who cheated various persons willing to go to the US illegally, they said. A number of Indians from these two states and few others were deported onboard US military planes in February this year and the agency later recorded the statements of few deportees. These statements and some linked investigation threw up the
