Rising liver ailments raise concern, experts stress diet for wellness

Amid a spike in fatty liver disease, hepatitis and cirrhosis across all age groups, experts have raised concerns over the consumption of sugary and processed foods, stressing that diet plays a direct role in liver health and overall wellness. Besides satisfying hunger, wholesome food also has the power to heal, restore and protect, they said. Currently, youngsters aged 23-30 are getting diagnosed with fatty liver due to constant consumption of sugary, fatty, junk, canned and processed foods," Greeneagles Hospital director ((HPB surgery, pancreas, intestine and liver transplant) Dr Anurag Shrimal said. "It is, therefore, imperative that individuals begin to pay close attention to their eating habits. What we eat plays a direct role in how well our liver functions, he said in a statement on Saturday. Symptoms such as fatigue, jaundice, swelling and abdominal pain often go unnoticed, he stated. Trump to undergo annual physical on Friday after yrs of limited disclosures

Donald Trump is undergoing his annual physical on Friday, potentially giving the public its first details in years about the health of a man who in January became the oldest in US history to be sworn in as president. I have never felt better, but nevertheless, these things must be done! Trump, 78, posted on his social media site. Despite long questioning predecessor Joe Biden's physical and mental capacity, Trump himself has routinely kept basic facts about his own health shrouded in secrecy shying away from traditional presidential transparency on medical issues. If history is any indication, his latest physical is likely to produce a flattering report that's scarce on details. It will be conducted at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center and will be the first public information on Trump's health since an assassination attempt against him in Butler, Pennsylvania, last July. Rather than release medical records at that time, Texas Rep. Ronny Jackson a staunch supporter who

Trump biggest threat to health, welfare programmes: Harris campaign

Former US president Donald Trump, who is also the Republican presidential nominee, is the biggest threat to health, welfare and social security programmes, the rival Harris campaign alleged Tuesday. A second Trump term would undo nearly 60 years of progress in helping low- and middle-income Americans access the quality, affordable health care they need, the Harris campaign said in a statement. Donald Trump is the biggest threat to Medicare, Medicaid, and Social Security since their inception. He tried cutting Social Security and Medicare every single year he was in office, Harris for President spokesperson Ammar Moussa said. There is only one candidate in this race who will protect and expand earned benefits programmes that millions of Americans rely on Vice President Harris, Mossa said. According to the Harris campaign, Trump and his extreme Project 2025 allies will do everything in their power to gut these programmes because they've come out and said it. Trump proposed cuts to

The government has taken several steps to curb suicide cases among students, Union Minister of State for Education Sukanta Majumdar said on Monday and added that 1.2 per cent of suicides were related to examination failures. Asked about student suicides in Kota, a hub of coaching centres in Rajasthan for competitive examinations, the minister said a number of steps had been taken by the central and the state governments. "Several initiatives have been taken by our government to curb incidents of suicide among students. According to NCRB (National Crime Records Bureau) and Accidental Deaths & Suicides in India, only 1.2 per cent of total suicide cases are related to failure in examinations," Majumdar told the House. Speaker Om Birla, the Kota MP, was not in the chair when the question was taken up. The proceedings were being managed by Jagadambika Pal. Most students worldwide lack access to minimum physical education: Report

The majority of the world's schoolchildren still do not have access to the minimum required physical education, according to the first-ever Global Status Report on Quality Physical Education. The report, "Global State of Play", published by UNESCO's education team, revealed that only 58 per cent of the countries have made physical education compulsory for girls and that only 7 per cent of schools worldwide have established equal physical education time for boys and girls. Two-thirds of secondary school students and more than half of primary school students worldwide are not taught the required minimum weekly physical education. An expert from the team told PTI that less than one in two primary school teachers has received specialist training in physical education. The team also flagged major differences in funding for physical education between countries -- two-thirds devote less than 2 per cent of their education budget to it while one country in 10 allocates more than 7 per ...

40 mn people living with HIV in 2023, over 9 mn not getting treatment: UN

Nearly 40 million people were living with the HIV virus that causes AIDS last year, over 9 million weren't getting any treatment, and the result was that every minute someone died of AIDS-related causes, the UN said in a new report launched Monday. While advances are being made to end the global AIDS pandemic, the report said progress has slowed, funding is shrinking, and new infections are rising in three regions: the Middle East and North Africa, Eastern Europe and Central Asia, and Latin America. In 2023, around 6,30,000 people died from AIDS-related illnesses, a significant decline from the 2.1 million deaths in 2004. But the latest figure is more than double the target for 2025 of fewer than 2,50,000 deaths, according to the report by UNAIDS, the UN agency leading the global effort to end the pandemic. Gender inequality is exacerbating the risks for girls and women, the report said, citing the extraordinarily high incidence of HIV among adolescents and young women in parts of .
