Fake tan may not protect you against skin cancer

Sunless tanning or fake tanning products like sprays, ointments, creams, foams, or lotions that promise tan skin without the increased risk of skin cancer do not actually help prevent cancer.A new study conducted by the researchers of the University of Minnesota Medical School sought to assess the demographic characteristics and skin cancer risk behaviours of adult sunless tanners.Sunless tanning was most common among young, white, college-educated females and bisexual men. Other factors associated with sunless tanning included having a family history of skin cancer.Adults who used sunless tanning products were more likely to use indoor tanning beds and were less likely to wear protective clothing or seek shade when outdoors.Among people who used indoor tanning beds which are known to cause skin cancer, sunless tanning product users actually visited tanning salons more frequently than those who did not."Most evidence supports that sunless tanning products are safe to use and do not ...

Immune system may cure Alzheimer's disease

Turns out, vessels connecting the brain and the immune system play critical roles in both Alzheimer's disease and decline in cognitive ability that comes with time.Scientists at the University of Virginia improved the function of the lymphatic vessels to dramatically enhance the ability of aged people to learn and improve their memories.Lymphatic vessels are a network of tiny, thin-walled vessels which are designed to pick up the fluid that leaks into the tissues from the bloodstream and return it to the circulatory system. The researchers used a compound to improve the flow of waste from the brain to the lymph nodes in the neck of aged mice. The vessels became larger and drained better, and that had a direct effect on the ability to learn and remember. They also determined that obstructing the vessels worsens the accumulation of harmful amyloid plaques in the brain that are associated with Alzheimer's disease."In human Alzheimer's disease, 98 percent of cases are not familiar, so it's .

An expert panel formed by an apex advisory board on drugs to review the "safety, efficacy and therapeutic justification" of 349 fixed dose combination (FDC) medicines, which were banned in 2016, have backed the Health Ministry's decision to ban the drugs, barring six of them. The panel set up by the ministry has submitted its recommendations to the Drugs Technical Advisory Board (DTAB), which will forward the same to the health ministry soon, a government official said. UK doctors given green light to prescribe cannabis

British doctors will legally be able to prescribe medicinal cannabis, the government announced today following a review -- but insisted it was not a first step towards legalising recreational use. Home Secretary Sajid Javid, the interior minister, decided to relax the rules about the circumstances in which medicinal cannabis can be given to patients. It follows several high-profile cases, including those of young epilepsy sufferers whose conditions appeared to be helped by cannabis oil. "Making medicinal cannabis available on prescription will benefit the lives of ill patients currently suffering in silence," Javid wrote on Twitter. "There is nothing harder than seeing your loved ones in pain -- which is why I have taken this decision." Javid commissioned a review on June 19. An initial review by Sally Davies, the government's chief medical adviser, concluded there was evidence that medicinal cannabis had therapeutic benefits.
