First Pondicherry International Film Festival in Sept

Over 100 films from 25 countries will be showcased at the first edition of the Pondicherry International Film Festival (PIFF). The festival organised by Pickurflick and Puducherry Tourism Department, which will begin on September 26, will be hosted at multiple locations across Puducherry. The inaugural edition of the festival will focus on the cinema, art and culture of France, which is the partner country for the five-day long event. Festival director Saibal Chatterjee said the event was aimed at celebrating the spirit of independence by showcasing directors who revelled in "swimming against the tide". HC imposes Rs 5 L fine on Hotel Leela for 'forum-hunting'

The Bombay High Court today imposed a fine of Rs 5 lakh on Hotel Leela Venture Limited for "forum-hunting" by seeking that their pleas, challenging eviction proceedings initiated against it by the Airports Authority of India (AAI), be heard by a single judge bench. The AAI had, in February last year, issued an eviction notice to Hotel Leela Venture, which runs a five-star hotel near the Chhatrapati Shivaji International Airport, for non- payment of dues. The Airports Authority initiated the procedure to evict the hotel and reclaim 29,000 sq m land it stands on for non-payment of dues and flouting other terms of agreements. The hotel company had then filed two petitions in high court -- one challenging the notice and the other against the eviction proceedings. It had also filed an arbitration petition seeking to amicably resolve the dispute. Initially, the hotel's counsels sought for all the matters to be heard by a division bench. South-east Delhi restaurant vandalised by delivery boys

A group of food delivery boys allegedly vandalised a restaurant in southeast Delhi's Kalkaji last night over parking space, the police said today. The incident took place at 11:30 pm after an argument between the restaurant owner and the delivery agents over parking motorcycle near the restaurant, 'Dilli 19'. "The delivery boys had parked their motorbikes on the wrong side, following which they had an argument with the restaurant owner. They were dispersed by a beat officer and they left from there," a police officer said. But, they communicated through a WhatsApp group and several boys gathered at the spot and allegedly vandalised the restaurant with rods, he said. A case has been registered against the accused and police are on the lookout for them, he added.

Delhi: Delivery boys vandalise restaurant

A group of boys vandalised 'Dilli 19' restaurant situated in the national capital's Kalkaji area on Saturday night following an argument over parking space.Owner of the restaurant, Rohit said, "Some delivery boys came to pick orders at 7 pm. They don't understand how to park a bike. The beat officer intervened and asked them to leave."Rohit further said that after being dispersed by the police, the miscreants returned few hours later and vandalised the restaurant."They have a WhatsApp group where they communicated and around 25 peoples started raising slogans against us. At 11:30 pm, around 80-100 boys came and vandalised our restaurant even though families including children were present inside. Customers escaped through the kitchens," Rohit added.

Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee today flagged off this year's 47th Kolkata Rathyatra at ISKCON's Albert road temple here.
