Bodies of two Indian mountaineers recovered from Mt Kanchenjunga

The bodies of two Indian mountaineers, who died in Nepal due to high altitude sickness near the summit of Mount Kanchenjunga during an expedition to the world's third tallest peak, have been recovered and flown to Kathmandu, officials said here on Sunday. Biplab Baidya (48) and Kuntal Karar (46) died Wednesday night above Camp IV after they were unable to continue their descent from near the 8,586-metre peak due to hypothermia and snowblindness. The bodies of Baidya and Kanrar were first carried by rescuers from the mountain's highest camp to near thhe base camp and then flown to Kathmandu in a helicopter. The bodies were kept at the Tribhuvan University Teaching Hospital at Maharajgunj in the outskirts of Kathmandu for autopsy, said a staff member of Peak Promotion, which conducted the expedition. According to officials, Biplab made it successfully to the summit point, while Kuntal fell sick on his way and could not make it to the top. The duo, who were part of a five-member team of .

J-K: Tourism dept organises heritage walk to ancient Buddhist site in Akhnoor

In a bid to attract tourists here, Tourism Department on Saturday organised a heritage walk to the ancient Buddhist site of Ambaran on the occasion of Budh Purnima.The walk started from Jio Pota Ghat at the banks of river Chenab where Raja Gulab Singh was coronated by Maharaj Ranjeet Singh.The heritage walk was aimed at spreading awareness about the historic tourism circuit in Akhnoor which includes Jio Pota Ghat, Pandav Gufa and Ambaran.OP Bhagat, Director Tourism, Jammu said, "We get very rare occasions to talk of historical sites like this. Show inked fingers, get discounts at restaurants in Patna on May 19

Some of the restaurants in Patna have decided to offer discounts to those customers who have voted on May 19 in the last phase of the general election. Lakhu Ka Dhaba, a multi-cuisine restaurant on Fraser Road, has planned to offer a discount of 17 per cent. "Since we are going to elect the 17th Lok Sabha in 2019, we have put up a discount of 17 per cent for voters who will visit our restaurant tomorrow after casting their vote. Our idea also is to promote voting," said Vijay Kumar, a staff of the restaurant. This is an eight-year-old restaurant but the discount is being offered for the first time, he said. At Laziz Tandoori, also located on Fraser Road, its manager Dushyant Raj said there will be a range of discount on various food items. "On May 19, we will be offering discount to voters, who come to our place and show the inked finger, and, depending on the results on May 23, will offer a bigger discount on that day," Raj said. TN Governor undertakes elephant safari

Tamil Nadu Governor Banwarilal Purohit Saturday undertook an elephant ride at the Mudumalai National Park in Nilgiris district. During his three-day visit to the hilly district, Purohit had inaugurated the 123rd edition of the annual flower show on Friday at the Government Botanical Gardens organised as part of the summer festival. The Governor this morning visited the national park and wildlife sanctuary in Mudumalai Tiger Resrve and also enjoyed an elephant safari, a major tourist attraction in the park. Ace mountaineer Dipankar Ghosh goes missing on Mt Makalu in Nepal

Ace mountaineer Dipankar Ghosh has reportedly gone missing on Nepal's Mount Makalu, the world's fifth highest peak in, expedition organisers confirmed on Friday."Dipankar Ghosh has gone missing from the high camp of Mt. Member of Army mountaineering team to Mt. Makalu dies

The Army on Friday said a member of its 18-personnel expedition team to Mount Makalu in Nepal, which claimed to have spotted mysterious footprints of mythical creature Yeti, died while descending from the summit point. The team had successfully climbed Mt. Makalu (8,485 metre) on Thursday. "While descending from the summit point to Camp IV (first camp during the descent), one of the team members, Naik Narayan Singh, died," the Army said. The Army said Singh was a keen mountaineer and had earlier taken part in other mountaineering expeditions, including to Mt. Kamet. Singh had joined the Army in 2002 and hailed from Pithoragarh in Uttarakhand. He is survived by his wife and three young children. Mt. An Indian climber has died in Nepal while descending the summit of Mount Makalu during an expedition to the world's fifth highest mountain, an official said Friday, days after two mountaineers from the country perished in the Himalayan nation. Nepali sherpa set for new attempt to scale Mt Everest after creating record

Shital Raj from Uttarakhand scales Everest

Twenty-three-year-old Shital Raj from Pithoragarh in Uttarakhand Thursday climbed the Everest, the world's highest peak, as part of an expedition named 'Climbing Beyond the Summit: Everest Expedition 2019' which was sponsored by several institutions, according to her coach.
