Naked cyclists on a roll for healthy transport in Mexico City

Dozens of naked bikers took to Mexico City's streets Saturday to raise awareness of cycling as a healthy transportation option. Many people get around by car in this megalopolis of more than 20 million, when a greener option might be in order amid worries about climate change. Participants in the World Naked Bike Ride turned out with Mexican flair, some in underwear and others just as they came into the world -- plus maybe a bike helmet or colourful wrestler's mask. Biking has gradually become more popular in traffic-choked Mexico City, which has more than four million cars on its roads daily. Cycling is more common in the city's central districts, where bike rental services have been popping up. The government has also tried to encourage bike use by building dedicated lanes, an effort to reduce the number of deadly crashes between cars and bikes. In mid-May, Mexico City's air pollution levels were so high that schools closed and vehicle use was restricted. That reignited discussions .

Hyderabad: National fish festival drawing huge crowd

The national fish festival, being held here since June 7 in association with the National Fisheries Development Board (NFDB), is witnessing some of the best cuisines of seafood being presented from the whole country.The three days festival is attracting a large number of food lovers thronging all the stalls to try different fish cuisines.G Rathinaraj, Executive Director, NFDB, told ANI: "This is the first year, in which we have started this kind of festival. The basic objective of this food festival is to promote domestic fish market and spread awareness about the health benefits of eating fish.""Each of the stalls has two banners -- in Hindi and English displaying the health benefits of eating fish for the visitors. The first day we had around 5,000 visitors. 46 varieties of mangoes on display at Rajasthan's first Mango festival

Around 46 unique varieties of mangoes grown in Banswara region are put to display during a first mango festival organised at Kushalbhog Ground of Banswara in Rajasthan. Netherlands: Dutch Army personnel to participate in Intl Yoga Day celebrations

'Nepal government urged to limit climbing permissions to Everest'

A British mountaineer has urged Nepal to limit the permits to scale the Mount Everest, keeping in view the carrying capacity of the mountain that saw 11 deaths this climbing season, the deadliest since 2015. Doug Scott, who has made 45 expeditions to the high mountains of Asia, warned that the Himalayas is no more a place for peace and solitude. "Limitation should be imposed in issuing permission for mountaineers keeping in view the carrying capacity of the mountains," he said at the opening of the third-edition of Himalayan Travel Mart 2019, a four-day event to promote Nepal as the gateway to the Himalayas and centre for adventure tourism. Odisha govt grants land for Rs 354cr tourism projects

In a bid to tap the tourism potential of Odisha, the state government has allotted land to seven projects that are expected to bring in investment worth Rs 354 crore.The land for the projects was sanctioned in the land allotment committee meeting held on Thursday under the chairmanship of Chief Secretary Aditya Prasad Padhi.While giving nod to the proposals, Padhi directed to fix commencement and commissioning timelines against each project. The allottees were asked to commission the projects within three years from the date of taking over possession of the land.Tourism Secretary Vishal Dev said, "The land has been allotted for seven projects in different parts of the state after due diligence and technical assessment for land requirement."The projects will be developed over a total area of around 79.5 acres out of which the state government has decided to allot around 42.5 acres. Russia opens first Arctic train service

The first tourist train travelling through Russia's Arctic region and on to Norway set off from Saint Petersburg station on Wednesday with 91 passengers aboard for the inaugural trial journey. "The Arctic fascinates everybody," said Nurlan Mukash executive director of the German Lernidee Erlebnisreisen tour group behind the project. "This destination has been covered by Canadian and Norwegian tourist agencies but, this has not been the case for Russia," he added. The train, named "Zarengold" ("The Tsars gold" in German) complete with two restaurant cars will travel from Saint Petersburg through Petrozavodsk, the historic town of Kem and Murmansk. At Murmansk, by far the largest city north of the Arctic Circle, the tourists will get off the train and continue by bus to Kirkenes in Norway before ending their journey with a boat trip to Oslo or by air to the island of Spitsbergen.
