Vistara, British Airways sign codeshare agreement
Passenger airline Vistara on Thursday signed a codeshare agreement with British Airways to share around 60 Vistara-operated flights each day in India with the UK-based airline.

MP: Rlys to preserve Patalpani-Kalakund metre gauge line
The Railways Thursday announced that it would create infrastructure to preserve the British era Patalpani-Kalakund metre gauge rail line which is part of Western Railway's Ratlam division, a senior railway official said. The rail route, in Madhya Pradesh, passes through several tunnels and offers spectacular views of waterfalls and lush green mountain ranges. "We have decided to preserve the historic treasure of the 10 kilometre long Patalpani-Kalakund meter gauge rail line. We are going to come out with a special package on this fascinating rail track by December. Infrastructure and a tourism centre would be developed," said Ashwani Lohani, Chairman, Railway Board. He said that Patalpani and Kalakund stations as well as the signalling infrastructure on the route would be made in such a way as to give tourists a feel of the past. Television actor Payal Chakrabory has been found hanging in a hotel room in Siliguri, north Bengal, under mysterious circumstances, police said. Tourism Ministry sanctions Rs 80.37 cr for cruise projects in Kerala
Ministry of Tourism on Wednesday sanctioned Malanad Malabar Cruise Tourism Project under Swadesh Darshan Scheme for development of a rural circuit in Kerala. Union Tourism Minister K.J. Alphons announced that under this project, the ministry will be developing three cruises with a budget of Rs 80.37 crores.The project will be focusing on the development of water-based thematic cruise experiences in and around Valapattanam and Kuppam Rivers of Kannur District. Three thematic cruises being developed under this project will be on Valapattanam and Kuppam River.The first cruise on Valapattanam River will be Malabari Cuisine and Culinary Cruise (Muthappan Cruise) which will start from Valapattanam and will cover a distance of 40 Km to reach Munambu Kadavu in Valapattanam River. There will be another cruise in Valapattanam River- Theyyam Cruise- which will begin from Valapattanam and will go up to Pazhayangadi in Valapattanam River.The third cruise will be a Mangrove Cruise in Kuppam River ..
IATO's 34th annual convention at Visakhaptnam from Sept 6
Indian Association of Tour Operators (IATO), along with the Andhra Pradeshtourism department, will be organising its 34th annual convention here from September 6to 9. Union Tourism Minister Ashok Chandra Panda will participate in the convention, in which over 900 delegates will be taking part. The IATO will come up with suggestions to promote tourism in Andhra Pradesh and attract foreign visitors. Tourism Ministry sanctions Rs 80.37 cr for developing cruise tourism in Kerala
In a boost to cruise tourism in flood-ravaged Kerala, the Ministry of Tourism Wednesday sanctioned Rs 80.37 crore for the development of basic infrastructure like passenger terminals, boat terminals and jetties under the 'Swadesh Darshan' scheme. The ministry said, in a statement, while Kerala has 44 rivers and seven backwater regions, its potential has not been tapped. Sanctioned under the 'Development of Rural Circuit: Malanad Malabar Cruise Tourism Project in Kerala', the Swadesh Darshan scheme will involve 40 km Malabari Cuisine and Culinary Cruise in Valapattanam river (Muthappan Cruise), 16 km Theyyam Cruise in Valapattanam river and 16 km Mangrove Cruise in Kuppam River, it said. Uttarakhand: Sans bridge, villagers use rope to cross river
After torrential rains in the region washed away the only bridge built on a river two months back, the locals of a village in Uttarakhand's Chamoli are forced to use a rope to cross the river, even when the water current is high.Villagers have tied a rope at banks of both sides of the river, which they use as a support to walk through the water. This temporary arrangement is putting the lives of locals at risk and was put in place two months ago after the bridge got washed away.However, Chamoli District Magistrate Swati Bhadoria said the village administration has been directed to build a bridge at the earliest."We have ordered village administration to construct a new bridge at the earliest. BJP MP and former Union minister Shanta Kumar has complained to the Centre about inflated airfares to city, saying they are discouraging tourists from visiting Himachal Pradesh. Last-minute air travel from Delhi can cost as much as Rs 20,000, he claimed. Passengers paying this fare could be sitting next to someone who has paid only Rs 2,000, the MP from Kangra said Tuesday. He said he has written to Civil Aviation Minister Suresh Prabhu on the high fares discouraging visitors to the state. He said he has raised the issue earlier as well with the Centre. The Himachal Pradesh government has in the past urged the Centre to subsidise air travel to the state. Sanjeev Gandhi, secretary of the local hoteliers' association, said most travel agencies are booking air tickets now via Chandigarh, Amritsar and Jammu as these tickets were cheaper. Besides the Gaggal airport in Kangra, Himachal Pradesh has domestic airports in Shimla and Kullu.
