Rail coach restaurant set up at ICF Chennai
Visitors to the rail museum in the city can now enjoy a variety of delicious cuisines offered at the new rail coach-themed restaurant opened on its premises. The air-conditioned restaurant named 'Chennai Express' has been built inside a Linke Hoffman Busch (LHB) coach of a train provided by Integral Coach factory (ICF) and set amid the ambiance of a railway station. It is the second such restaurant to be opened in the country by the Railways, after the one launched in Bhopal in 2015, a press release said. While the interiors of the 'bogey' feature light fittings designed in antique flavour, its exterior is painted with modern art by noted artist Asma Menon and her team. The restaurant, constructed in a record three months time, offers Chinese, Continental, North Indian, and South Indian food to its guests. Man falls to death while talking on mobile phone
A 40-year old hotel staff died here today after allegedly falling down from the second floor of a building while engrossed in a mobile call, police said. Sivadas, hailing from Palakkad in Kerala and working as a tea master in the hotel at Kuniyamuthur here, was talking over mobile phone when he fell down, they said. Neighbours who saw him falling, rushed him to the government hospital here, but he died without responding to treatment, police added.

Restaurants, shops should mandatorily display on board if meat is halal or jhatka: EDMC panel
All restaurants and shops selling or serving meat in east Delhi will have to mandatorily display boards specifying if it is halal or 'jhatka' meat, the highest decision-making body of the area's municipal corporation has proposed. The standing committee of the BJP-led East Delhi Municipal Corporation (EDMC) yesterday passed a resolution to that effect. The panel's decision now awaits the nod of the EDMC House and the municipal commissioner before it is implemented. The resolution is premised on several arguments, including that "a lot of people from Hindu and Sikh community reside in east Delhi" and there are quite a lot of restaurants serving meat (dishes). The EDMC in the resolution claimed that consumption of halal meat is "not allowed" as per the Hindu and Sikh religions. The it will be mandatory for all east Delhi restaurants to display a written message on the same. India and China should unleash the potential of enhancing people-to-people contacts through tourism, Indian Ambassador to China Gautam Bambawale said today. Minister of State for Tourism K J Alphons, accompanied by about 20 Indian tour operators are touring Beijing, Wuhan and Shanghai to enhance efforts to attract more Chinese tourists to India. Only 240,000 Chinese tourists, out of over 144 million who travelled abroad last year, visited India in 2017 despite e-vasa facilities. Alphons and his team held a roadshow in Beijing on August 28 and showcased India's tourism potential at a similar event in Wuhan today where Prime Minister Narendra Modi and President Xi Jinping had held an informal summit in April this year. Foreign tourist arrival to touch 20-mn mark soon: Official
The Union Tourism Ministry expects the number of inbound tourists to touch the 20-million mark in the next few years, given the "rapid development in infrastructure and the growing interest about India" among foreigners, an official said here today. The 2017-18 fiscal has been "exceptionally good" for the country in terms of foreign tourist arrival, Suman Billa, the joint secretary of Union Ministry of Tourism, said at the inauguration of 11th Convention India Conclave at New Town. "We are extremely enthused to have crossed the 10-million mark in foreign tourist arrival in the last fiscal and hope to reach the 20-million mark in another few years," Billa stated. India has seen a 14 per cent rise in foreign tourist arrival in 2017-18 when compared to the year before, while in terms of revenue, the increase has been 20 per cent, he maintained. Food regulator FSSAI today said the regulations pertaining to labelling of packaged food products are being framed and will be issued soon. "As far as labelling is concerned, one is packaged food's labelling whose regulations are being framed. Now main issue that is cropping up in this is which food will be called healthy and which food will be called not so healthy," Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) CEO Pawan Agarwal said. "Industry views, scientific/medical community views on this are being reconciled after which labelling regulations will be issued soon," he told reporters here while replying to a question. The Himachal Pradesh government would use social media to accelerate tourism in the hilly state, Chief Minister Jai Ram Thakur told the state assembly today. He said the state remained weak in the current era of information technology. "Now our government has taken an initiative in this direction. The Tourism Department will soon complete the process of appointing a social media consultant. Subsequently Youtube, Facebook, Instagram and Twitter will be used to accelerate tourism in the state," Thakur said.
