Hero MotoCorp signs up Virat Kohli as brand ambassador
Two-wheeler market leader Hero MotoCorp announced Tuesday signing up of Indian cricket captain Virat Kohli as its brand ambassador. Kohli will start his innings with Hero MotoCorp with a campaign for the new Xtreme 200R premium motorcycle, the company said in a statement. The campaign coincides with the start of the nationwide retail sales of the Xtreme 200R, which is priced at Rs 89,900 (ex-showroom Delhi), from tomorrow, it added. Vietnam's capital urges residents to stop eating dog meat
Authorities in Vietnam's capital Hanoi are urging residents to stop eating dog meat because it hurts the city's image and improper raising and slaughtering of the animals could also spread rabies. For many Vietnamese, dog meat is a delicacy that is thought to increase stamina. Hanoi Vice Mayor Nguyen Van Suu said in a message published Tuesday on the city's website that slaughtering and consuming dog and cat meat are disturbing to foreigners and "negatively impact the image of a civilized and modern capital". Suu instructed local governments to raise awareness of the risk of rabies when raising dog and cat meat. The move is part of a national program to stamp out rabies by 2021. 2 panther cubs born in Assam zoo
The birth of two panther cubs in Assam State Zoo here has given it the distinction of having the highest number of six panthers in a zoo in the country, an officer said Tuesday. The cubs were born on Saturday night to panther couple Meena and Mohan and both the cubs and the mother and doing fine, Zoo Divisional Forest Officer Tejas Mariswamy said. Mohan and Meena were rescued panthers raised in the zoo and the authorities paired them in April. Besides these four, Assam State Zoo has two more panthers and has the distinction of having the highest number of six panthers in a zoo in the country, he added.
Nawaz Sharif's wife Kulsoom Nawaz dies in London
Begum Kulsoom, the wife of Pakistan's jailed former prime minister Nawaz Sharif, died Tuesday in London after a prolonged illness, Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz president Shehbaz Sharif said. Kulsoom, who was under treatment at London's Harley Street Clinic since June 2014, was placed on life support earlier Tuesday as her health deteriorated, Geo TV reported. The 68-year-old former first lady was diagnosed with lymphoma (throat) cancer in August 2017. She had married Sharif in April 1971.

Body of man found lying on railway tracks in UP town
Body of a man was found near railway track on Delhi-Saharanpur route near Khatoli railway station here, police said Tuesday. The man was identified as Ranjit Singh, a resident of Jammu, they said. Justice Mudgal to head selection committee for Dronacharya and Dhaynchand awards
Justice Mukul Mudgal, who headed the Supreme Court-appointed probe into the 2013 IPL spot-fixing scandal, has been named chairman of the 11-member selection committee to pick this year's Dronacharya and Dhyanchand awardees. The panel headed by Mudgal, the retired Chief Justice of Punjab and Haryana High Court, has been picked by the Sports Ministry but it yet to be officially announced. "The meeting will take place on September 16 in Delhi," a source in the panel told PTI. The selection committee features former Commonwealth Games gold-winning air pistol shooter Samresh Jung and shuttler Ashwini Ponnappa among others. Kofi Annan's body returns home to Ghana before funeral
The body of former UN Secretary-General Kofi Annan has received a hero's welcome upon landing at Kotoka International Airport in Ghana's capital. President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo was with Annan's widow and family members Monday as uniformed soldiers brought Annan's coffin down from the aircraft amid solemn music played by a detachment of Ghana's armed forces. Prayers followed. To signify Annan's return home, the UN flag covering the coffin was replaced by a Ghanaian one.
