The official coronation of Thailand's King Maha Vajiralongkorn , who is also known as Rama X, involves months of rituals that will culminate in three days of elaborate pageantry, including a parade and an appearance by the monarch on a balcony of the Grand Palace. The final event will be a royal barge procession in October. The last coronation, of Vajiralongkorn's late father King Bhumibol Adulyadej, was on May 5, 1950 . NZ PM Ardern to marry long-time partner
New Zealand Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern and her long-term partner Clarke Gayford have become engaged to be married, her office said Friday. A spokesman for Ardern and Gayford said the couple, who have a baby daughter Neve, agreed to tie the knot over the Easter break. He could not reveal whether a date for the prime ministerial nuptials had been set or who had proposed to whom. "I can't say anything about it other than they are engaged and it happened over Easter," the spokesman told AFP. Ardern, 38, had Neve last June, becoming only the second prime minister in the world to give birth while in office and later taking the infant onto the floor of the UN Assembly in New York. Elderly Aussie couple sign for drug shipment after delivery mix-up
An elderly couple in Australia were the surprise recipients of an illegal drug shipment after signing for a wrongly delivered parcel containing millions of dollars' worth of methamphetamine, police said Thursday. The Melbourne couple immediately called police when they discovered bags containing the white powder in the parcel on Wednesday, a police spokesman said. The package contained what police said were 20 kilograms (44 pounds) of methamphetamine with an estimated street value of AU$ 10 million (US$7 million). Police subsequently searched a house in another part of Melbourne where they found 20 more kilograms of the drug and arrested a 21-year-old man. He was charged Thursday with importing a marketable quantity of a controlled drug and was due to appear in court later in the day, police said. Police asked that the unwitting couple who helped catch the man not be identified by the media out of concern for their safety.

No change of guard ceremony on Sundays due to extreme hot weather condition
The change of guard ceremony on the forecourt of Rashtrapati Bhavan will be temporally discontinued on Sundays due to extreme weather conditions, according to an official statement issued Thursday. The ceremony, however, will continue on every Saturday at its original timings from 10 am to 10.40 am (November 15 to March 14) and from 8 am to 8.40 am (March 15 to November 14), it said. A request to witness the change of guard ceremony can be made online through https://rb.nic.in/rbvisit/rbvisit_cog.aspx. The ceremony will be temporally discontinued from this Sunday, the statement issued by Rashtrapati Bhavan said.

But a new study published Wednesday in the journal PLOS ONE suggests Fido's reputation for being caring is all a ruse -- at least if you're a fellow dog. A series of touchscreen experiments carried out by the Wolf Science Center in Vienna, Austria, found that wolves make for more selfless pack mates than dogs who were also raised in groups. The study's authors say the findings suggest domestic dogs inherited their cooperative tendencies from their fierce wolf ancestors, rather than through their contact with human beings, a competing hypothesis. MP: Five of family drown in river
Five members of a family drowned Wednesday in the Sindh river in Madhya Pradesh's Bhind district, police said. Police suspect that the deceased Waris Khan (40) and his daughters ventured into the river but drowned as they failed to gauge the depth of the water. The incident occurred under Amayan police station limits. The deceased are identified as Khan, his daughters Jasmin (17), Mehron (16) and Kushbu (15), and his nephew Ameer Khan (19), said district superintendent of police Rudolf Alvares. Khan and his family members had come to Aman village to attend a marriage in Umri area. "Khan and others ventured into the Sindh river. However, they slipped into deep water and died," Alvares said. A Kashmiri Pandit, who had to leave the Valley after being shot at four times by unknown gunmen in 1990, returned to his homeland after 29 years and resumed his trade in Srinagar on Wednesday. Three men drown in U'khand river
Three men, including an army jawan, drowned while bathing in the Poorvi Nayar river in Uttarakhand's Pauri district on Wednesday, police said. Army jawan Gurudev Singh, Navin Singh and Pradeep Singh had gone for a picnic along with four of their friends when the mishap occurred, Station House Officer, Paithani, Ravindra Singh, said. They were bathing in Poorvi Nayar river when they were swept away by its strong currents, he said. The other friends reported the incident to police which recovered the bodies, Singh said.
