Rescued street puppy makes it to dog squad of WB Police

A stray pup, rescued by the police, has become the first street mongrel to join the elite dog squad of West Bengal Police. Asha, as named by the Kolkata Police officers who rescued her from stone-pelting kids on the city streets, has been trained in the last one-and-half years to become member of the dog squad of the West Bengal Police Training Academy, Barrackpore, deputy inspector general of police Dipankar Bhattacharya said. "Initially, we did not have plans to train her or include her in our dog squad as we never had any street dog in the squad. But the then inspector-general (Training) K Jayaraman thought of providing training to the stray dog and see if she could be included in the canine squad," Bhattacharya said. Woman artist depicts life of Jijabai on 125 ft long saree in Mumbai

An unusual piece of art showcasing the life of Chhatrapati Shivaji's mother - Rajmata Jijabai- on a 125-foot long saree has been brought out by a woman painter here to celebrate International Women's Day.The artist Shrutika Ghagh has depicted several real-life scenes from the life of Jijabai on a 125-foot long cotton saree. She says she took 114 long hours to complete the piece.Speaking to ANI Ghagh said, "I chose Jijabai in order to inspire women. I have made 37 portraits of her in the saree. I have used several textile techniques such as block printing, hand painting etc. Moreover, I have only used only three colours on the saree- Black, Golden and Red." 'Honour killing' whistleblower shot dead in Pakistan

Afzal Kohistani, a man at the centre of a campaign to expose one of Pakistan's most notorious "honour killings" cases has been shot dead in the garrison city of Abbottabad, media reports said Thursday. In 2012, Kohistani emerged as one of the first Pakistanis to violate a local custom in remote northern Kohistan district where matters of family honour are settled in blood. Those perceived to have violated the code are killed with the mutual consent of families involved. Afzal was shot dead on Wednesday night in a busy commercial area of the north-western city of Abbottabad, police said, quoting witnesses to the killing. He suffered multiple injuries and died on the spot, they said. He was shot by unidentified gunmen who managed to flee. According to Station House Officer Ghafoor, of the Cantt police station, Afzal was accompanied by his nephew at the time of the incident. The nephew shot back at the gunmen and remained unhurt. Bhubaneswar Airport gets prestigious ASQ award

The Biju Patnaik International Airport (BPIA) in Bhubaneswar has won the prestigious Airport Service Quality (ASQ) award for being the best airport in size and region for the year 2018. Chandigarh Airport, Devi Ahilyabai Holkar Airport in Indore, SM Badaruddin II Airport in Indonesia, SS Kasim II Airport in Indonesia and Yichang Sanxia Airport in China were also chosen for the award.
