Tecno aiming to be among top 5 smartphone brands in 2024 in Indian market

Tecno, a leading smartphone brand of the Transsion Group, is eyeing to be among the top five smartphone brands in the Indian smartphone market by 2024, a top company official said. The company is betting on premiumisation and is focussing on metros to achieve its ambitious goal, he said. "The Indian smartphone market is maturing, and consumers are demanding more premium features and experiences. We are planning to launch 24 new models in 2024, of which 50 per cent will be 5G-enabled." said Tecno Mobile India CEO Arijeet Talapatra. The brand is traditionally strong in tier II and cities below it for its affordable and feature loaded smartphones. Ranked sixth in the Indian smartphone market, Tecno has witnessed a significant shift towards premiumisation in recent times. Samsung India expects 30% of premium segment revenue from foldable phones

Korean electronics major Samsung expects foldable smartphones to account for 30 per cent of premium mobile revenue in India this year, a senior company official said on Wednesday. Samsung India, Mobile Business, Senior Vice President Raju Pullan said that the new foldable devices, Galaxy Fold 5 and Galaxy Flip 5, have recorded pre-booking worth Rs 1,500 crore which is 1.5 times compared to pre-booking registered for previous generation foldable smartphones. "India has rolled out the red carpet for Galaxy Z Flip5 and Galaxy Z Fold5. Over 150,000 consumers have pre-booked Galaxy Z Flip5 and Galaxy Z Fold5. We expect foldable smartphones to contribute over 30 per cent to our premium segment business this year, indicating growing importance of the foldable category in India," Pullan said. Multi-brand retail chain Big-C mobiles eyes Rs 1,500 cr turnover in FY24

Hyderabad-based multi-brand mobiles retail chain Big-C mobiles has set a target of Rs 1,500 crore as turnover in the current financial year, said company's founder, chairman and managing director M Balu Chowdary. The company had achieved Rs 1,000 crore turnover in FY2022-23. Big-C mobiles, which currently has 250 outlets across Telangana, Andhra Pradesh and Tamil Nadu, in a release said it plans to open 150 new outlets in two years with investment of around Rs 300 crore. "We are aiming at taking the outlet count to 400 by opening 150 new outlets in two years with investment of around Rs 300 crore. With demand for handsets, POCO India eyes 75-80% business growth in 2023

Smartphone player POCO India expects a 75-80 per cent year-on-year jump in business in 2023, mainly due to demand for its handsets in the medium and economy segment, a top company official said on Monday. POCO India Country Head Himanshu Tandon told PTI that as per market research firm Canalys, the overall smartphone market in India has declined 10 to 15 per cent and online sales dropped 20 per cent, but Xiaomi's sub-brand has emerged as the fastest growing online label, with a 68 per cent jump in sales for the March 2023 quarter. The launch of three models in the C-series under Rs 10,000 and X5 Pro in the price range of Rs 20,000-25,0000 segment fuelled the company's growth in the first quarter of 2023, he noted. Mobile industry agrees for phased roll-out of uniform device chargers: Govt

Smartphone companies and industry organisations have agreed to a phased rollout of a uniform charging port for all electronic devices, the Consumer Affairs Ministry said on Wednesday. A sub-group will be set up to examine the feasibility of uniform charging ports for wearables, it said. This was decided during a discussion in the meeting of the inter-ministerial task force chaired by Consumer affairs secretary Rohit Kumar Singh here. The representatives of industry associations such as MAIT, FICCI, CII, educational institutions, including IIT Kanpur, IIT (BHU), Varanasi as well as the central government ministries, including the Environment Ministry, attended the meeting. "Stakeholders agreed that a phased roll-out of the common charging port may be conducted so that the same can be applied by the industry and adopted by consumers harmoniously," an official statement said.
