Wanindu Hasaranga on Thursday stepped down as the Sri Lanka captain in T20 Internationals ahead of their upcoming three-match series against India. India will tour Sri Lanka for a limited-overs series which begins with the three T20Is to be played on July 26, 27 and 29 at the Pallekele International Stadium, followed by three ODIs in Colombo. Sri Lanka Cricket wishes to inform the public that National Men's 20I Captain Wanindu Hasaranga has decided to resign from the captaincy, a release from Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) said. Hasaranga said it is in the best interest of Sri Lanka Cricket that he decided to relinquish the captaincy duties and remain in the side as a player, the release added. Hasaranga's last assignment as Sri Lanka skipper was in the T20 World Cup where the 2014 champions failed to make the Super Eight round. "Sri Lanka will always have my utmost best efforts as a player, and I will support and stand by my team and leadership as always," Hasaranga was quoted as saying

BJP claims that the Congress government led by Indira Gandhi gave away Katchatheevu island to Sri Lanka in 1974
The Berubari case went on to affect the Katchatheevu matter decades later, with opponents of the island's transfer to Sri Lanka citing it as a reason to reclaim the territory

Sri Lanka's Minister of Transport, Highways and Mass Media Dr Bandula Gunawardena and High Commissioner of India to Sri Lanka Santosh Jha ceremonially launched the multiple works on Sunday, a release from the office of the High Commission of India said here. Like many yeasts since the introduction of the Indian Premier League in 2008, the Indian cricket team will remain busy throughout the year in 2024 as well. Here's why and how
The crisis-ridden Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) and its host broadcaster will have something to cheer about during the middle of 2024 when the Indian team makes it annual ritual tour of the islands for a short six-match white-ball series, the board announced on Wednesday. SLC has been banned by the ICC for government interference and the global body has also shifted the U-19 World Cup to South Africa. However the national teams (men and women) will be allowed to fulfil their bilateral commitments. According to the 2024 calender released by SLC, India is supposed to travel for three ODI and T20Is each during July-August, which is effectively country's cricket season. The men's national team is due to play 52 international games in 2024, which includes 10 Tests, 21 ODIs and 21 T20Is. The T20Is, however, doesn't factor in the additional games that they will play during the T20 World Cup. One of the major assignment will be the three-Test away series in England, which is a part of the curren

India vs Sri Lanka Highlights, ICC Cricket World Cup: Mohammed Shami picked his third 5-wicket haul in World Cups and became the highest wicket-taker for India in World Cups as India bamboozled Lanka
Star Sports will live broadcast the India vs Sri Lanka World Cup match in India.
Twelve years on from that dream April 2011 night when a country of billions landed in a frenzy of delight, India take on Sri Lanka in another World Cup clash here on Sunday, albeit one that is poles apart from being termed an encore. If that World Cup final was truly a battle of titans in every sense, the impending contest is more or less a battle of the unequals. India have hitherto marched on immaculately in pursuit of a third title and Sri Lanka have lost more than what they have won. Unbeaten in six straight games and largely unchallenged for longer spans, India have displayed traits of being a champion side which has the knack of staging remarkable fightbacks. India's confidence is irrefutably high but greater is their self-belief and trust on skills witnessed in the mini-storm created by Australia in Chennai when reduced to 5/3 or when England limited them to a modest 229/9 in Lucknow. The doggedness to keep striking England until the defending champions were disintegrated w
India's bowling attack makes the opposition envious and Sri Lanka head coach Chris Silverwood on Wednesday minced no words in admitting that any team in the world would want to have a line-up like that. At the same time, he also hoped that his team puts together a combined show in their World Cup clash here on Thursday. India will face Sri Lanka in what seems to be a lop-sided contest already, with the World Cup hosts topping the points table with six wins on the trot. On the other hand, Sri Lanka are languishing in the bottom half of the table, placed at the seventh spot at the moment. "If you look at that bowling attack and you watch them operate, it is a very strong bowling attack. I think any team in the world would want an attack like that, to be honest," Silverwood told the media here during the team's training session. "But we see that as a great challenge for our guys. We see it as an opportunity to go out and play against the best and see, I mean, pit ourselves against tha
As many as nine teams have a chance to make it to the semifinal of the Cricket World Cup with England having the least chance ie 0.01 per cent.
With his vulnerability against the short ball coming to the fore once again, India number four Shreyas Iyer trained with the aim of overcoming his longstanding struggles ahead of the World Cup game against Sri Lanka here on Thursday. None of the top-order guns captain Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli and Shubman Gill were in attendance for the optional session. Iyer versus the short ball was the focal point. The team's famed bowling attack, which delivered a fabulous 100-run victory over England last Sunday, also opted for rest. Perched at the top of the World Cup points table and with a spot in the semifinals virtually sealed for Rohit and Co, it is only imperative that the team keeps ironing out the areas of concern along the way. Iyer's troubles against the short ball, combined with the lack of big scores as the preferred No 4, is certainly something that the team management and the player want to overcome and it was evident as far as his approach to the session on Tuesday was ...
A life-size statue of cricket legend Sachin Tendulkar will be inaugurated on Wednesday on the eve of the World Cup match between India and Sri Lanka at the Wankhede Stadium here. It was revealed earlier this year that the statue of Tendulkar, who turned 50 in April, would be installed inside the stadium and finishing touches to the same were being given here on Tuesday. The statue depicting the legendary batter in motion of playing a stroke is placed next to the Sachin Tendulkar stand. The inauguration ceremony of Tendulkar's statue will be attended by Maharashtra chief minister Eknath Shinde, deputy chief minister Devendra Fadnavis, the legendary Tendulkar, BCCI secretary Jay Shah, treasurer Ashish Shelar along with officials from the Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA), president Amol Kale, secretary Ajinkya Naik and other members of the apex council. The statue has been made by Pramod Kamble, a painter-sculptor from Ahmednagar in the state. Tendulkar's statue, at his homeground ..

Sri Lanka deny yet another India vs Pakistan final as the women's team beat Pakistan women's cricket team in the semifinal of Asian Games 2023 to set up summit clash with India
Hours of net sessions perfecting the art of getting the ball to dart in the air and then deviate away after pitching paid dividends while bamboozling Sri Lanka captain Dasun Shanaka, India's man of the moment Mohammed Siraj, said after his magical spell of 6/21 in the Asia Cup final. Siraj dismissed Pathum Nissanka, Sadeera Samaraiwickrama, Charith Asalanka and Dhananjaya De Silva in his second over before returning to clean up Lankan skipper Dasun Shanka with a peach of a delivery. "I had practised a lot on generating out-swing deliveries from wide of the crease in West Indies. My outswingers were going well. So I tried from the wide of the crease to push for inswing (which will move away after pitching)," Siraj told bcci.tv. "So what I planned, what I had in mind, it turned out to be absolutely perfect and it was my best wicket of the game," Siraj said in an interaction with Indian teammate Kuldeep Yadav. With less than a month to go for the World Cup, Siraj said his spell in the
