India right to ask for major course correction of UNSC: Indian envoy Kamboj

India is right in demanding a major course correction of the UN Security Council when the world's largest democracy is kept out of the global decision making, the country's UN envoy has said. India has been at the forefront of the years-long efforts to reform the Security Council, saying it rightly deserved a place as a permanent member of the United Nations. Currently, the UNSC has five permanent members China, France, Russia, the UK and the US. Only a permanent member has the power to veto any substantive resolution. India was a founding signatory to the UN Charter when it was signed on June 26, 1945, in San Francisco. Seventy-seven years later, when we see the world's largest democracy, along with entire continents of Africa and Latin America, being kept out of global decision making, we rightly call for a major course correction, India's Permanent Representative to the UN Ambassador Ruchira Kamboj said in the UN Security Council on Monday. She was addressing the Security ...

Australia to ramp up diplomatic ties with India, Japan in Indo-Pacific

Australia on Monday said it will deepen its diplomatic and defence partnerships with key allies in the strategic Indo-Pacific, including India and Japan, in response to China's growing assertion of sovereignty over the South China Sea and its threat to the global rules-based order. Unveiling the Defense Strategic Review in Canberra, Prime Minister Anthony Albanese's government set out a blueprint for Australia's strategic policy, defence planning and resources over the coming decades. The public version of the final report did not label China a direct military threat to Australia, but said Beijing's assertion of sovereignty over the disputed South China Sea threatens the global rules-based order in the Indo-Pacific in a way that adversely impacts Australia's national interests. It labelled the competition between China and the United States the defining feature of our region and our time and noted that America is no longer the unipolar leader of the Indo-Pacific. Archery World Cup: Indian men team wins silver, Dhiraj won bronze

The Indian men's recurve team clinched a silver medal after losing to China by the thinnest of margins in a shoot-off at the Archery World Cup Stage 1 here on Sunday. In pursuit of their first World Cup gold medal since 2010, the men's recurve team, comprising Tarundeep Rai, Atanu Das and Dhiraj Bommadevara, bounced back from 0-4 deficit to level the scores and force a shoot-off. But the Indian trio went down 4-5 (54-55, 50-56, 59-58, 56-55, 28-28*) with the Chinese team of Li Zhongyuan, Qi Xiangshuo and Wei Shahoxu hitting an X (closer to the centre) in the shoot-off in a dramatic finish. Dhiraj then went on to grab a second medal in his World Cup debut when the 20-year-old Army man defeated Ilfat Abdullin of Kazakhstan 7-3 (28-28, 29-26, 28-29, 29-27, 29-27) to bag the bronze in individual recurve section. Dhiraj would regret missing out on a silver as he squandered a 4-0 lead against Dan Olaru of Moldova to go down 6-4 (27-26, 28-27, 28-29, 26-28, 28-30) in the semifinal. India
