Indigo cancels flights to Amritsar, 5 other cities amid security concerns

IndiGo has cancelled its flights to and from Jammu, Amritsar, Chandigarh, Leh, Srinagar and Rajkot for May 13. "In light of the latest developments and with your safety as our utmost priority, flights to and from Jammu, Amritsar, Chandigarh, Leh, Srinagar, and Rajkot are cancelled for 13th May 2025," IndiGo said in a post on X at 23:38 hours on Monday. The airline also said its teams are actively monitoring the situation. These six airports are among those that were reopened for civilian flights on Monday after being temporarily shut in the wake of the military conflict between India and Pakistan. On Monday evening, an IndiGo flight enroute to Amritsar returned to the national capital after precautionary blackout measures were enforced in Amritsar, according to sources. The flight 6E2045 from Delhi to Amritsar returned to the national capital after being ariborne for sometime, as per information available on flight tracking website Flightradar24.com.

IndiGo names ex-FAA administrator Michael Whitaker as independent director

InterGlobe Aviation, the parent of the country's largest airline IndiGo, on Thursday announced the appointment of former administrator US Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and pilot Michael Whitaker as an Independent Director. Whitaker's appointment, which is subject to regulatory and shareholders' approvals, comes as the term of Venkataramani Sumantran as an Independent Director ends on May 27. Sumantran, who is currently a Non Executive Independent Director and Chairperson, has decided not to seek re-appointment for a second term, according to a BSE filing. Long-term plans won't be impacted by trade tariffs, says IndiGo CEO Elbers

India's largest carrier IndiGo is confident that the global events triggered by tariff hikes will not impact its long-term plans. The large domestic market, which includes a big untapped segment, will help airlines, the company's Chief Executive Pieter Elbers told PTI in an interaction. "Some of the more recent dynamics and the global scale are not changing any of our capacity (expansion) plans for next year," he said. IndiGo, Accor to collaborate on loyalty programmes for flyers, guests

Gurugram-based IndiGo on Wednesday announced its plans to enter into an agreement with Accor for a loyalty programme. Both IndiGo and global hospitality major Accor offer their loyalty programmes- IndiGo Bluechip and ALL-Accor Live Limitless,-- to their customers, providing multiple benefits. The two partners have now agreed to develop a strategic collaboration through their loyalty programs, IndiGo said. IndiGo flight makes emergency landing after woman dies during flight

An IndiGo Airlines flight made an emergency landing at the airport in Maharashtra's Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar after an 89-year-old woman died onboard, an airport official said on Monday. The Mumbai-Varanasi flight made an emergency landing at the Chikalthana Airport on Sunday night, he said. The official said Sushila Devi, a native of Mirzapur in Uttar Pradesh, boarded the flight from Mumbai and started feeling unwell mid-air. He said the flight landed at the Chikalthana Airport due to a medical emergency around 10 pm. A medical team examined the woman on landing, but she had already succumbed. The MIDC CIDCO police station did the necessary formalities, and the flight proceeded for its onward journey to Varanasi, the official said. According to the airline, the woman's body was sent to the Government Medical College and Hospital in Chhatrapati Sambhjinagar.

I-T dept imposes Rs 944 cr penalty on IndiGo, airline to contest order

The Income Tax Department has slapped a penalty of Rs 944.20 crore on IndiGo, which said it will contest the order that is "erroneous and frivolous". The order was received by InterGlobe Aviation, the parent of the country's largest airline IndiGo, on Saturday. In a regulatory filing on Sunday, IndiGo said the Assessment Unit of the Income Tax Department (Income Tax Authority) has passed an order imposing Rs 944.20 crore penalty for assessment year 2021-22. "The order has been passed on the basis of an erroneous understanding that appeal filed by the company before the Commissioner of Income Tax (Appeals) (CIT(A)) against the assessment order under Section 143(3) has been dismissed, whereas the same is still alive and pending adjudication," it said. IndiGo has great opportunity to address long haul market: CEO Pieter Elbers

With internationalisation as a key focus area, IndiGo chief Pieter Elbers on Tuesday said the airline has a great opportunity to address the long haul flight services market from India. IndiGo, which has more than 400 planes in its fleet, is taking wide-body Boeing 787 aircraft on damp lease and is set to start services to Amsterdam and Manchester later this year. "International air travel in India probably for quite a long time was very much taken care of by non Indian airlines... there is a great opportunity to address that market (long haul) with our planes," Elbers said. Generally, long haul flights are those having a duration of more than nine hours. The airline expects to take delivery of long range A321 XLR planes this year and wide-body A350 aircraft in 2027. IndiGo's parent firm approves $45 million investment in IFSC subsidiary

InterGlobe Aviation, the parent of the country's largest airline IndiGo, will invest up to USD 45 million in its subsidiary InterGlobe Aviation Financial Services IFSC Pvt Ltd. The investment was approved by InterGlobe Aviation's board during its meeting on Wednesday. In one or more tranches, the investment of "up to Rs 3,940 million (USD 45 million approximately)", will be made in the IFSC subsidiary, according to a regulatory filing. "This investment will be utilised by IndiGo IFSC towards financing of aviation assets, repayment of its outstanding loan and for other general corporate purposes," the filing said. IndiGo IFSC, engaged in aircraft and aircraft engine leasing and providing financial services for such transactions, was incorporated in October 2023.
