Employment generation in the formal sector almost trebled to touch a 16-month high of 7.16 lakh in December 2018 compared to 2.37 lakh in the year-ago month, according to the latest EPFO payroll data. Around 72.32 lakh new subscribers were added to social security schemes of the Employees' Provident Fund Organisation (EPFO) from September 2017 to December 2018, the data showed. This indicates that these many jobs were created in the last 16 months. The EPFO, however, revised downwards its payroll data for November 2018 by 23.44 per cent to 5.80 lakh against the earlier estimate of 7.16 lakh released last month. It also revised the cumulative job addition data from September 2017 to November 2018 downwards 11.36 per cent to 65.15 lakh from earlier forecast of 73.50 lakh. More than 27.50 lakh educated jobless people have registered themselves with various employment exchanges in Madhya Pradesh till January 2019, the state Legislative Assembly was told Wednesday. Gwalior district has the highest number of unemployed youths at 1,37,367, followed by Satna and Bhopal districts which occupy the second and third slots. The services, including shooting inside metro trains and stations, will be available on hour basis and permission will be determined subject to certain terms and conditions like no use of animals, firearms, and political, religious and racial overtones, the NMRC said. The NMRC has formulated a policy for hiring of NMRC premises which includes hiring of metro stations, metro train, metro depot, and any other premises under the control of the NMRC for purpose of shooting of films, audio and video documentaries, TV commercials, etc on commercial basis, it said in a statement. Lack of employees' physical activity and stress are top lifestyle risk factors identified by employers in India, according to a study. Besides, other major concerns are obesity, followed by poor financial well-being and tobacco use, said the India Health and Wellbeing Study by Willis Towers Watson. According to the study, combating employee stress appears to be a key focus area for employers in India. "A vast majority, 80 per cent of the organisations, have taken at least one action to manage employee stress and mental health in 2018 and 89 per cent selected 'identify and manage stress and behavioural health issues across the workforce' as a top priority," the report by the global advisory, broking and solutions company said Tuesday. The lack of employees physical activity (62 per cent) and stress (55 per cent) are the top lifestyle risk factors identified by employers in India, the study said. A tripartite meeting to avert an impending strike by jute sector trade unions in West Bengal failed to reach any consensus on Monday. The West Bengal government had called for the meeting to resolve the impasse between jute mill owners and the trade unions, which have threatened to go on an indefinite strike from March 1 over unfulfilled demands. The meeting was presided over by the state's Labour Minister Moloy Ghatak, officials of Indian Jute Mills Association (IJMA) and trade union representatives. A bilateral meeting with the IJMA will be held on February 21, and another tripartite meeting on either February 22 or February 25, officials said. All trade unions in the sector, barring Indian National Trinamool Trade Union Congress, have agreed to join the strike from March 1 to press for their demands, including wage revision and implementation of Minimum Wages Act. A BSNL employee union on Monday charged the government of not making sincere attempts to resolve problems faced by the PSU to benefit a rival telecom firm, while workers went on a three-day strike to press for their demands. The union levelled charges a day after the telecom department announced that it was engaging with the BSNL management and representatives of the unions and associations to support their reasonable demands. A fire broke out in the gun cotton section of the cordite factory near here Monday and an employee was hospitalised after inhaling smoke, police said. Pratap, one of the five employees working in the section, suffered breathlessness and fainted after inhaling the thick smoke, the police said. He has been admitted to the factory hospital, they said. The Department of Telecommunications (DoT) will soon seek the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India's (TRAI) views on administrative allocation, quantum, price and appropriate frequency band for allotting 4G spectrum to Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL).
The government on Sunday said "positive steps" are being taken by the telecom department on the demands raised by unions and associations of BSNL, and the issue of allotment of 4G spectrum to the telecom PSU is being referred to the sector regulator for views. At the same time, a comprehensive proposal for revival of BSNL has been prepared, which will be taken up for consideration by competent authorities very soon, the Ministry of Communications said in a statement.
