Govt keen to settle labour issues at Synthite Industries: CM

: Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan today rejected the opposition charge that the government was supporting Left trade union, CITU's alleged attempt to disrupt functioning of Synthite Industries. The government was trying to settle the dispute between the management of the Kochi-based multi-crore company and the trade union amicably and had deployed a team of police personnel in front of the company for its smooth functioning, he told the state Assembly. Replying to a notice by the Congress-led opposition UDF seeking an adjournment motion over the stalemate, the Chief Minister, however, said the management should show readiness to make some "corrections" in their approach. TL govt announces 16% IR, TMU calls off proposed stir

Transport workers' unions in Telangana today withdrew their proposed indefinite strike from tomorrow, demanding pay revision, after the state government announced an interim relief of 16 per cent. The government said it has decided to give 16 per cent interim relief, even though it would put an additional financial burden of Rs 16 crore every month on the Telangana State Road Transport Corporation (TSRTC). The decision was announced by Finance Minister Etela Rajender and Transport Minister P Mahender Reddy at a press conference here this evening in the presence of the union leaders. A leader of the Telangana Mazdoor Union (TMU), a recognised union of the TSRTC, said in view of the government's announcement of interim relief they have decided to withdraw the stir. MSRTC strike result of 'ego problem' of labour unions: Raote

The recent strike by the workers of Maharashtra State Road Transport Corporation (MSRTC) was a result of the "ego problem" of labour unions, state Transport Minister Diwakar Raote said today. On Friday, MSRTC employees went on a strike at several of the state-run undertaking's depots demanding an immediate pay hike. Bus services were affected due to the strike and thousands of commuters bore the brunt of it. The strike was called off yesterday after negotiations with Raote. "When I spoke to the managing director (of MSRTC Ranjit Singh Deol), I told him that the strike could not have been launched by the employees on their own as they have been barred by the high court from doing so. Defence Minister Nirmala Sitharaman on Saturday said the increase in the wages of the Gramin Dak Sevaks (GDS) will help improve access to financial services in remote regions.Sitharaman while attending an interaction programme with Gramin Dak Sevaks here, praised the hard work of the postmen for providing access to communication and financial services in remote areas."We took many new things into consideration in the last meeting for Gramin Dak Sevaks. Even today, with so many new technologies available to us, we wait for a postman to bring posts for us. Rupani warns of stern action against corrupt employees

Gujarat Chief Minister Vijay Rupani today said strong action needs to be taken against around 15 per cent "corrupt" employees in the state, "who are vitiating the atmosphere". "There are 10 to 15 per cent government employees who are corrupt. They vitiate the atmosphere in the state. So stern action needs be taken against them," he said. Estate workers get gratuity after 15 years

After about 15 years, 116 retired workers of various tea estates in Valparai in the district received their gratuity today. Cheques for Rs 54.36 lakh were handed over by Municipal Administration Minister S P Velumani to the workers, who were either retired or taken voluntary retirement. Speaking on the occasion, the minister said considering the workers' plight, talks were held with the estate managements on the issue of gratuity. In the first phase, 116 workers were given the cheques. With 61 registered and six unregistered tea estates, a total of 15,768 people had been working there, Velumani said. To uplift their social status, late chief minister Jayalalithaa had revised the wages twice during 2013-16 and 2016-18 and the workers were getting Rs 309 as minimum wages, he said. Trade union leader dies while attending Kerala CM's meeting

Veteran trade union leader, E Kasim today collapsed and died while attending a meeting called by Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan here. He was 69. The leader fell down while taking part in the meeting of trade union leaders representing cashew workers to discuss the crisis in the sector. Though he was rushed to the general hospital here, his life could not be saved, party sources said. A district committee member of the ruling CPI(M), Kasim was currently the general secretary of the CITU-affiliated Kerala Cashew Workers Centre (KCWC). He also served as the chairman of the Kerala State Cashew Development Corporation (KSCDC).

Section of MSRTC staffers go on strike demanding pay hike

Employees of the Maharashtra State Road Transport Corporation today went on strike at several of the state-run undertaking's depots demanding an immediate pay hike. Bus services were affected due to the strike and thousands of commuters bore the brunt of it. An MSRTC official said that the strike had affected operations at its depots in Parel, Mumbai Central, Uran, Panvel and Kurla and bus services to cities like Pune and Nashik were affected. The strike comes two days after the MSRTC announced an 18 per cent fare hike for customers on the back of higher fuel and wage bills. A senior MSRTC official today said that a section of the staff did not report to work, affecting bus operations. "This move (of nor reporting to duty) is unacceptable and a resolution has been passed to take stern action against the erring employees. Indian man charged in Dubai for abusing former boss

An Indian sales executive has been charged in Dubai for allegedly engaging in criminal threats, verbal abuse and online slander against his former female boss after he was fired from the job, according to a media report. According to public prosecution records, the 30-year-old Indian man threatened the complainant, an Uzbek national, that he would destroy her life and circulate inappropriate messages of her, Khaleej Times reported. He also allegedly posted her picture on Facebook with defamatory captions, alleging that she dismissed him after he claimed his "financial dues". Gender pension gap in Europe, US at over 35 pc: WEF

The gender pension gap in Europe and the US stands around 35-40 per cent, and government and employers need to help even the playing field, says a WEF report. Gender pension gap is expected to balloon to USD 400 trillion by 2050 in the world's eight largest pensions systems, including India, China, Canada and the UK, according to the new World Economic Forum white paper. Women are at a "savings disadvantage" in making up for the gender pensions gap, largely owing to their lower salaries, fewer working years (on average), and their more conservative investment attitudes". "The resulting difference in retirement balance for women is estimated to be 30-40 per cent in Europe and a similar percentage in the United States, compared to a gender pay gap that currently stands at around 15-20 per cent across high-income countries," the report added. Air India employees to embark on mass non-cooperation over salary delay

The Indian Commercial Pilots' Association (ICPA), the pilots union of Air India said they would stop complete cooperation with the management in lieu of the delay in their salaries.In a letter to the ICPA's Central Executive Committee (CEC), the Regional Executive Committee (REC) said the non-cooperation would continue until salary payment is regularised and normal functioning is restored."In the REC meeting held in Delhi on June 06, Delhi REC unanimously decided that no wages on time amount to financial stress and mental agony, thereby resulting in undue fatigue, which is severely affecting flight safety.
