Social security pensions not suspended: Tripura govt

The Tripura government today said that social security pensions were not temporarily suspended and the process, to provide pensions to the beneficiaries, has been initiated. An official statement issued by the government said that the Social Welfare and Social Education Department has clarified that reports of stopping social security pensions were far from true. The payment file for 4.19 lakh beneficiaries of various social security pensions provided by the state and central governments in Tripura was issued on May 11, the statement said. Earlier on March 14, a memo issued by the additional secretary of the Social Welfare and Social Education Department said, "It has been decided by the council of ministers in its meeting held on 10th March, 2018 that the process for grant of social pension shall be reviewed and pending such review, all the cases pending for sanction of social pension shall be kept in abeyance." Hry Minister asks municipal workers to end strike

Claiming that most of the demands of the municipal workers have been met, Haryana's Urban Local Bodies Minister Kavita Jain asked them today to end their strike and join duty. Nearly 30,000 employees and workers including Safai Karamcharis of over 80 municipal corporations, municipal committees and councils began a three-day strike on Wednesday last week in support of their demands, including regularisation of contractual employees. On Friday, they decided to extend their strike to May 14. "Most of their demands have already been met by the state government," Jain said, while speaking at a function in Sonipat. "The demand of regularisation of contractual employees of municipality in urban areas of Haryana is unjustified as the court has put a stay on regularisation of employees under various policies since 2016," she said. Meghalaya CM urges Centre to accord autonomy to NEIGRIHMS

Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma today urged Union minister J P Nadda to accord autonomy to North East Indira Gandhi Regional Institute of Health and Medical Sciences (NEIGRIHMS) in Shillong. Trump admin intensifies steps to detect, eliminate fraud by employers bringing foreign workers

US authorities today announced a joint collaboration to better detect and eliminate fraud, abuse and discrimination by employers bringing foreign visa workers to America. The Department of Justice and the US Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) have a signed an MoU as part of the Trump administration's effort to improve the way the agencies share information, collaborate on cases, and train each other's investigators, according to a statement. 93% of H-4 approved work authorisation from India: US report

A staggering 93 per cent of the total H-4 visa holders in the US having work authorisation are from India, a latest Congressional report on the spouse visa has said. Over one-fifth of the H-4 visa holders with work authorisation live in California, it said. Ninety-three per cent of granted applications for employment authorisation were issued to women; seven per cent to men, according to the report on H-4 visas by the independent Congressional Research Service of the US Congress, which prepares periodic reports on issues of interest to US lawmakers. "Ninety-three per cent of approved applications for H-4 employment authorisation were issued to individuals born in India, and five per cent were issued to individuals born in China. Individuals born in all other countries combined make up the remaining two per cent of approved applications," CRS said in its nine-page report. ITF expresses solidarity with AI unions protesting disinvestment

The International Transport Workers' Federation has expressed its solidarity with Air India unions opposing disinvestment of the airline, saying any change in the status of the state-run carrier should be negotiated with the workers and the unions. The federation, representing 7.40 lakh aviation workers across the globe and 19 million members in transport sector, in a letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi requested him to ask the Civil Aviation Ministry to start the process of "sincere dialogue and engagement" with the joint forum of Air India unions and the association representing Air India workers. "It is crucial that the government and investors recognise that the core assets of an airline is the skills, expertise and the goodwill of the employees. New office building TNSTC, Porayar in place of demolished one

A Rs 39 lakh new building, housing the office of theState Transport Corporation at Porayar in the district, whereeight workers were killed after the roof collapsed on October 20 last year, will come up soon. Speaking after laying the foundation stone for the building, state Handlooms Minister O S Manian said it would serve as retiring room for transport workers and also house a canteen for workers, The minister said the building was being constructed using the Local Area Development Fund allotted by Poompuhar MLA Paunraj. On October 20, 2017, the roof of the building at the Porayar TNSTC office, which served as a retiring room for transport workers, collapsed, killing eight workers on the spot. Following the mishap, the building was completely demolished. The minister also laid the foundation stone for a Rs 1.28-crore bridge across Veerachozhan near here, with aid from NABARD.

Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao today said a final decision on issues concerning government employees, teachers and others would be taken on May 16 after discussions with the staff associations. Rao said this in a meeting with ministers and officials, a release from his office said. Bank unions threaten 2-day nation-wide strike from May 30

Employees of public sector banks have threatened to go on two-day nation-wide strike from May 30 against "a meagre" 2 per cent hike offered by the management body, Indian Banks' Association (IBA). During the negotiations held on May 5, IBA made two unacceptable propositions including an offer of 2 per cent hike in the wage bill cost as on March 31, 2017, United Forum of Bank Unions (UFBU) said in a statement. Besides, it adamantly maintained that the negotiations on officers demands would be restricted up to Scale III only, AIBEA General Secretary C H Vekatachalam told PTI.
