Several houses in Shimla at risk of sinking due to incessant rain: Official

Several houses across six panchayats in the Nankhari and Kotgarh areas of Shimla district are at risk of sinking due to incessant rains in the area, officials said on Saturday. Continuous rains in the past few days have led to the sinking of land in a few villages, with several families evacuated to safer places, Deputy Commissioner Shimla Aditya Negi told PTI. We would request the geological experts to conduct a survey to find the reason behind the sinking of land, he said. A cloudburst occurred in the upper areas of Jaban in the Anni area of the Kullu district on Friday night, triggering flash floods in Deori Khud. After a landslide occurred on the Mumbai-Pune Expressway near Kamshet tunnel, the debris was completely cleared in the early hours of Friday, and all three lanes towards the state capital were closed for traffic for two hours in the afternoon, an official said.The landslide took place around 8 pm on Thursday, which affected the vehicular traffic towards Mumbai, he said. Soon after the landslide, one of the three lanes towards Mumbai was closed to remove the debris and mud. Later, one more lane was shut, the official said. "The landslide debris was completely cleared by 2 am on Friday, but as some soil is still falling at the spot, a team is set to carry out an inspection. Therefore, one lane was kept shut for traffic, while two others were operational," a highway police official said. From 2 pm, a block was conducted as all three lanes towards Mumbai were closed for vehicular movement to remove stones and boulders which had rolled down the hills, he said. Maharashtra CM Shinde announces permanent homes for Irshalwadi survivors

Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde said on Friday that a plot has been identified for the rehabilitation of the survivors of the Irshalwadi landslide and state planning agency CIDCO will construct permanent homes for them. He also announced higher financial aid for people affected by heavy rains and floods. At least 27 people have died and 57 are missing in the landslide that struck the hilly hamlet of Irshalwadi in Raigad district on July 19. Landslide in Maharashtra: Rescue operation resumes on 4th day, 81 untraced

The National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) and other agencies resumed the search and rescue operation for the fourth day on Sunday at Irshalwadi village in Maharashtra's Raigad district where a massive landslide led to the death of at least 27 people, officials said. According to an NDRF official, no body was recovered so far after the search and rescue operation resumed in the morning. The death toll in the landslide mounted to 27 on Saturday while 81 persons are yet to be traced, officials earlier said. The landslide at the tribal village, situated on a hill slope under Khalapur tehsil that is located around 80 km from Mumbai, occurred on Wednesday night. Death toll in landslide at Maha village climbs to 27; 81 untraced on day 3

The death toll in the landslide at Irshalwadi hamlet in Maharashtra's Raigad district mounted to 27 on Saturday with the recovery of five more bodies from the debris on the third day of the search and rescue operation, an NDRF official said. He said 81 persons are yet to be traced. The search and rescue operation was called off for the day due to bad light and inclement weather and it is likely to resume on Sunday morning. Of the five bodies, four are identified while the identity and gender of the body recovered later in the day is not known yet, the official said. "With the recovery of five bodies today, the death toll in the landslide tragedy has now reached 27," the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) official said. Search and rescue teams on Saturday recovered two more bodies from the debris at the landslide-affected Irshalwadi village in Maharashtra's Raigad district, taking the death toll in the tragedy to 24, an official said. Both the deceased were women, he said. "Bodies of two women were recovered from the landslide site in Irshalwadi on Saturday morning," an official of the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) said. With this, the death toll in the landslide tragedy has gone up to 24, he said, adding that the search and rescue work is still underway as 84 persons are yet to be traced. Maharashtra BJP president Chandrashekhar Bawankule on Friday said the party will appoint 50,000 rugna sevaks' to serve patients and people needing medical assistance. This initiative will be flagged off on Saturday on occasion of Deputy CM Devendra Fadnavis' birthday, Bawankule told reporters here. The rescue and search operation at Irshalwadi hamlet in Maharashtra's Raigad district, where a massive landslide buried several houses and claimed the lives of at least 16 people so far, resumed on Friday morning, an official said. The landslide occurred around 11 pm on Wednesday at the tribal village, situated on a hill slope, under Khalapur tehsil of the coastal district, around 80 km from Mumbai. Of the total 228 residents of the village, the bodies of 16 have been recovered, while 93 residents have been traced, he said. However, a total of 119 villagers are yet to be traced. Landslide kills 16 people in rain-hit tribal village in Maharashtra

At least 16 people were killed when a massive landslide struck a remote hilly tribal village in Maharashtra's Raigad district overnight amid rains, while the National Disaster Response Force stopped its day-long search and rescue operation for survivors due to downpour on Thursday, NDRF officials said. Raigad landslide: CM Shinde announces Rs 5 lakh ex gratia for victim's kin

Five persons died after a massive landslide at a village in Maharashtra's Raigad district, an official said on Thursday. While 75 persons have been rescued, many are still feared trapped, the official said. Four NDRF teams are engaged in rescue work, he added. The village has around 50 houses, of which 17 were buried under the landslide, the official said. The landslide followed torrential rains in the area. Five people, including three children, were killed after heavy rains triggered landslides and left several houses damaged in Kathua district of Jammu and Kashmir on Wednesday, officials said. Vaishno Devi yatra on new track suspended as Katra witnesses heavy rainfall

The new track to the Mata Vaishno Devi shrine has been closed for pilgrims in view of landslide threat as Katra town in Jammu and Kashmir's Reasi district received the heaviest rainfall in past 43 years. Chopper service to the shrine has also been suspended because of inclement weather. However, pilgrims can reach the shrine atop Trikuta Hills will continue on the old track, officials said on Wednesday. "Yatra has been suspended on the new track due to the threat of landslides.
