'Strategic autonomy' in AI key, avoid reliance on single-source: IT secy

India should pursue "strategic autonomy" by building enough domestic capability in key parts of the AI ecosystem and avoid overdependence on any single technology source or location, while remaining firmly integrated into trusted and verified global supply chains, IT Secretary S Krishnan said on Tuesday. Krishnan said India has an opportunity to emerge as a global leader in building AI-powered applications and solutions for the world. He said India should leverage inputs from multiple sources while avoiding overdependence on any single country or source, and build sufficient capabilities to become an indispensable part of the global AI value chain. "Sovereign has a particular context. I think in the Indian context, even in a global context today, the appropriate term would be strategic autonomy. HFCL to invest ₹400 cr to expand optical fibre cable manufacturing capacity

Telecom equipment maker HFCL on Tuesday announced that its board has approved a fresh investment of approximately Rs 400 crore to expand its optical fibre and optical fibre cable manufacturing capacities. The proposed expansion will be funded through a mix of internal accruals and debt, and is expected to be completed by July 2028. Pilot fertiliser distribution platform rolled out in 56 districts: Govt

A new digital platform to ensure more transparent and farmer-centric fertiliser distribution has been implemented on a pilot basis in 56 districts across 23 states so far, Parliament was informed on Tuesday. The new platform 'Framework for Fertilizer Sale' has been jointly developed by Fertiliser and Agriculture Ministries with consent from the state governments. It is implemented in a "staggered pilot manner, with the objective of making the fertiliser distribution system more transparent, organised, farmer-centric, land and crop data integrated and demand driven", Minister of State for Chemicals and Fertilisers Anupriya Patel said in a written reply to the Rajya Sabha. Under the proposed arrangement, farmers or their authorised representatives will register through a mobile application and enter land and crop-related details for advance booking (pre-booking) of fertiliser requirements.
