Minor girl raped, murdered near Bhiwandi, Maharashtra

A 14-year-old girl was raped and killed by an unidentified person in Bhiwandi tehsil of Thane district this evening, police said. The incident took place around 5.40 PM at Mankoli village near Bhiwandi. The girl was alone at home when an unidentified man entered the house, raped her and strangled her, an official from Narpoli police station said. The assailant also forced her head into a tub of water which probably caused the death, he said. A case under IPC sections 302 (murder) and 376 (rape) has been registered. Further probe was on.

Minor girl kills self after being molested by two youths

A 14-year-old girl killed herself after being allegedly molested by two youths while she was returning from the Ganga river after taking bath, police said today. According to police, the minor was stopped and molested by Subhash and Dharamraj. Feeling insulted, she hanged herself at her home. "A case has been registered on her father's complaint and Subhash arrested," Circle Officer at Safipur Vivek Ranjan Rai said.

Ghaziabad building collapse: Two errant builders arrested

Two builders have been arrested for illegal construction of a five-storey building which collapsed here last month, police said today. Two persons were killed and several others injured after the under-construction building located in Akash Nagar area of Masuri police station limits collapsed on July 22. "Errant builders Kishan Pal Tomar and Mukesh Singh have been arrested," Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Vaibhav Krishna told reporters here. The two were absconding since the incident occurred, he said, adding the land owner, Dinesh Kumar, is still at large but will be nabbed soon.

Mehtab Gill commission submits its ninth interim report

Punjab government has taken action in 258 cases out of 344 complaints so far allowed by the Justice (retd) Mehtab Singh Gill Commission, providing relief to the victims "implicated in false cases" registered during previous regime. The commission was formed by the state government to look into the "false cases" registered during decade long SAD-BJP regime. "Of the 344 complaints allowed so far by the Justice (retd) Mehtab Singh Gill Commission, investigating the false cases registered under the previous regime, action has so far been taken in 258 instances, bringing relief to the innocent victims implicated in these cases," said Justice (Retd) Gill in a release here. Justice Gill submitted his ninth interim report to Punjab Chief Minister Amarinder Singh here. Giving details of the action taken, Gill said FIRs had been filed in the courts in 148 cases, while compliance of orders had been reported in 38. Muzaffarnagar ADM suspended, illegal construction at his Noida residence demolished

The Uttar Pradesh government said today it has suspended Muzaffarnagar Additional District Magistrate Harish Chandra, who has had a spat with a retired Army colonel over an illegal construction at his residence in Noida. "Harish Chandra, who was posted as additional district magistrate (executive) in Muzaffarnagar, has been suspended," additional chief secretary Mukul Singhal told PTI. Haryana : SIT to probe death of infant who allegedly died due to Congress rally

A four-member Special Investigation Team (SIT) has been constituted to investigate the incident where an infant died in Sonipat on Wednesday.The infant died en-route to a hospital in an ambulance. The 63-month sentence that a federal judge in Augusta, Georgia handed Reality Winner in exchange for her guilty plea was the stiffest ever for a single charge of leaking classified information to the media, according to her lawyers. It came despite the same information she leaked later being divulged officially by Washington after US states demanded it. "The defendant schemed to take and disclose classified information she had sworn to protect -- and then did so almost as soon as she had the chance," said Assistant Attorney General John Demers in a statement. US woman charged with aiding Islamic State militants

An Indiana woman who says she was tricked into traveling to Syria where she and her four children were held in a Kurdish detention camp after her husband died while fighting for the Islamic State movement is accused of providing material support to the group. The US attorney's office said Samantha Elhassani, 32, was charged yesterday with conspiring to provide material support to IS and aiding and abetting individuals in providing material support to the group, which the United States has designated a terrorist organization. Woman arrested for killing her son in Patiala

A 38-year-old woman and her paramour were arrested for allegedly killing her 17-year-old son, police said today. The woman and her 32-year-old paramour, both from Chintawala village of Nabha division, allegedly killed her son Sukhbir Singhon August 20 and tried to show it as a suicide, police said. To project Sukhbir's death as a suicide, the accused woman had earlier claimed that he was a drug addict and his body was found outside the gate of her house. Then she told police that Sukhbir might have committed suicide as he failed in examinations in which he had reappeared recently. Police today arrested at least 10 persons engaged in gambling at a house near Ananta Nagara area under Baidyanath Pur police station limits here. The police also seized over Rs 4.06 lakh, five motorbikes and 11 mobile phones from the arrested persons, Berhampur SDPO Prabhat Kumar Routray said. The raid was conducted there following a tip off. Arrested right-ring members used Vaman, Vishnu as codes: ATS

The Maharashtra ATS has found that persons arrested in connection with the seizure of explosives in Nallasopara in neighbouring Palghar district used code names like "Vishnu" and "Vaman" to communicate with each other, an official said today. One of the arrested accused has also told ATS that he was directly involved in the shooting of rationalist Narendra Dabholkar on August 20, 2013. On August 10, three persons -- Vaibhav Raut, Sharad Kalaskar and Sudhanwa Gondhalekar -- were arrested by the ATS from Palghar and Pune districts in connection with the seizure of a large number of bombs and weapons. While Kalaskar was codenamed "Vishnu", Vaibhav Raut used the moniker "Vaman" and Gondhalekar was addressed as "Pandeyji", the official informed. The crude bombs that the three persons were accused of assembling was called "ladoo", he said. Teenage girl rescued

A 19-year-old man was arrested today for allegedly marrying a 15-year-old girl in West Bengal and confining her to his residence in a Mumbai suburb, the police said. The accused are identified as Sajid Shaikh (19), the girl's uncle Tomer shaikh (40) and her father-in-law Mustafa Shaikh (65), a police official said. The girl was allegedly confined in Behramnagar residence of her 'husband' Sajjad, he said. The incident came to light on August 22 after the girl fled from the house and spotted by a crime branch officer, he said. An offence was registered at Nirmalnagar police station in the city on her complaint. The victim told the police that she was married off forcibly with Sajjad by her uncle in Malda district, according to the official. He said Sajjad had allegedly sexually assaulted her. Sajjad had filed a missing person's complaint report with police.

CBI court denies bail to Dera chief Ram Rahim in castration case

Dera Sacha Sauda chief Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh, serving a 20-year jail term each in two rape cases, was denied bail today by a Panchkula CBI court in another case involving castration of 400 of his followers. Gurmeet Ram Rahim's bail plea was dismissed three days after he had moved the court for it. In the castration case, the Panchkula court had recently framed charges of cheating, criminal intimidation and the one for causing grievous hurt by dangerous weapons against Gurmeet. He was also charged with criminal conspiracy along with two doctors, Pankaj Garg and M P Singh, allegedly involved in castration of nearly 400 of the sect followers. The CBI earlier had filed a charge sheet against Gurmeet and the two doctors for allegedly subjecting the sect followers to castration. Fight by two wives over body of husband reaches HC

A fight between two wives of a man over his body has reached the Madras High Court which today directed police to dispose it of as per procedure for unclaimed bodies if the women fail to reach a compromise in two days. Justice P N Prakash declined to entertain the petition filed by the first wife staking claim to the body, kept in a mortuary since his death on August 16, for performing the last rites. Dakshinamoorthy, who had married the two women in different period of time, died while staying with the second wife, a Christian. 5-yr-old raped in Gurgaon, relative held

A five-year-old girl was allegedly raped by her distant relative in Gurgaon, police said today. The accused has been arrested. According to police, the culprit was the victim's neighbour in Gurgaon and both hailed from the same village. "He (accused) had an eye on the girl ever since she came to Gurgaon a week ago," Kanta Devi, SHO of women police station Gurgaon said. Last night, when the girl was asleep, the accused entered her room while her mother was in the toilet and took her away. He then gagged and raped her in his room before fleeing. When the girl's mother returned and found her missing, she raised an alarm. The minor was found in an unconscious state in the accused's room next door, Devi said. After receiving a complaint, the police launched a search operation and arrested the culprit today from a hideout in Gurgaon, the SHO said.
