A 14-year-old boy was sent to reform home for two years by a juvenile board here for raping a four-year-old girl, with the entire process of the case being completed in just five days. Juvenile Justice Board Judge Tripti Pande pronounced the sentence yesterday after wrapping up the trial in seven hours, government advocate Deependra Malu said today. The crime took place on August 15 and the entire process, from registration of the case to pronouncement of judgement, was completed in five days. "The case diary was submitted in the court at 10.45 am yesterday and the judgement, after trial, was pronounced around 6 pm," Malu said. "This is probably for the first time, after the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act came into effect in 2012, that a judgement in a rape case of a minor has been given in such a short duration," he said. While pronouncing the sentence, Malu said, the judge observed, "The tendency of sexual offences against children is rising at a fast pace .
The Delhi High Court today asked the Delhi Police to file a status report on a plea challenging anticipatory bail given to Congress leader Shashi Tharoor in a case related to his wife Sunanda Pushkar's death. Justice R K Gauba asked the Delhi Police's standing counsel (criminal) Rahul Mehra to appear in the matter and listed the plea on September 25. "The state shall file a status report inspecting the case against the backdrop of which the present controversy is raised," the court said. The court was hearing the petition filed by a Delhi-based lawyer Deepak Anand challenging a trial court's July 5 order granting anticipatory bail to Tharoor in the matter. The petitioner argued that after filing of charge sheet, the trial court took cognisance and issued summons to Tharoor. A special court here convicted two men today in the rape case of an eight-year-old girl here. Special Judge Nisha Gupta held the two accused - Irfan alias Bhaiyu (20) and Asif (24) - guilty under relevant sections, public prosecutor B S Thakur said. The court will pronounce the quantum of sentence later in the day, he said. The girl was gang-raped on June 26 in Mandsaur after the accused abducted her while she was waiting for her father outside her school. The accused had also tried to kill her by slitting her throat. The minor, who suffered severe injuries to her neck, face, head and private parts in the incident, is undergoing treatment in Indore. Relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code and the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act were invoked against the accused.
An eight-years-old girl died after a loaded pistol of her uncle accidentally fired at at Jolla village under Budhana police station here, police said today. The deceased was identified as Sana, nephew of a jawan.Station House Officer Perbhaker Ketura said the loaded gun fired after the girl touched it. At least seven persons, including a woman, were injured in a group clash over the beating of a dog at Kakrala village under Khatauli police station here, police said today. Circle Officer Rajive Kumar Singh said Rinu singh and Kapil Balmiki were confronted by locals yesterday evening for thrashing a dog belonging to one Ritu Singh. However, the confrontation soon turned into a violent clash in which lathies were used. Police rushed to the spot and brought the situation under control. The clash was between two groups of the same community, said a police official, adding that one person was arrested in this connection.

A Delhi court today sent two persons, who had allegedly attacked JNU student leader Umar Khalid in front of the Constitution Club here, to two-day police custody. The incident took place on August 13 and they were arrested from Haryana a week later. Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Deepak Sherawat allowed the plea of the Delhi Police after it said their custodial interrogation was required. The two men, who were arrested on August 20 from Fatehabad in Haryana's Hisar district, had claimed that they were cow vigilantes who wanted to draw attention towards protection of cows. The duo, Darwesh Shahpur and Naveen Dalal, told the police that they had planned to disrupt the event 'Khauff se Azaadi' (Freedom from Fear) that was being held at the Constitution Club on August 13. The Supreme Court today directed the Jammu and Kashmir government to file its response on a plea alleging custodial torture of the Kathua case witness by August 27. A bench comprising Chief Justice Dipak Misra and Justices A M Khanwilkar and D Y Chandrachud fixed the matter for further hearing in August 29. A 31-year-old man, who was working as a personal assistant to Union Minister Narendra Singh Tomar, allegedly committed suicide in New Delhi's Laxmibai Nagar area.The deceased, Kundan Kumar, hung himself from a ceiling fan at around 2:25 am on August 20 at his residence in Laxmibai Nagar near Sarojini Nagar. He was residing with his family.Kundan was rushed to Safdarjung Hospital, but he was pronounced dead on arrival."We received a call at Police Control Room (PCR) late night at 2:25 am. On immediate action, the deceased was rushed to Safdarjung Hospital but the doctors declared him brought dead," said Police.Kumar is survived by his wife Shivani and a six-month-old son. The dead body has been handed over to his relatives after the post-mortem.A probe team was deployed at the spot and photographs were taken for investigation. Two Muslim youths were allegedly thrashed and paraded by a mob led by the head of a vigilante group on suspicion of smuggling two cows in Uttar Pradesh's Shamli district this evening, police said. The head of the cow vigilante group was arrested and the two youth were booked under the UP Prevention of Cow Slaughter Act, and taken into custody, they said. Superintendent of Police Shlok Kumar said Dilshad and Shah Rukh were ferrying two cows, which they claimed were bought from a temple priest, to their village when the mob intercepted the truck in Shamli town and attacked them.
