One more person has been arrested in connection with a low-intensity blast inside a park in the Ganderbal district of Jammu and Kashmir that left 13 people injured, a police official said today. On June 17, the next day of Eid-ul-Fitr, a huge crowd was celebrating in Manasbal Park in the central Kashmir district when their was an explosion in a dustbin there. Three persons were arrested in the case on June 21. They were identified as Younis Khan, Irfan Khan and Bilal Mir, all residents of Kondbal Safapora area, he said. Police today arrested another accused, Mohammad Imran Sofi, a resident of Kondabal, who was absconding since then, he said. Further investigation suggests the accused was the masterminded behind the blast, he said, adding Sofi is also "a chronic stone pelter". Traffic police in Ahmedabad today slapped a fine on Patidar quota agitation leader Hardik Patel for having black-tinted film on his car's windows, an official said. Assistant Commissioner of Police (Traffic) Akash Patel said that, in addition, the leader's driver did not have his seat belt on while driving the car. "When his SUV entered the premises (of the police commissionerate), on duty policemen noticed black-tinted film on the car windows. Further, his driver was also not wearing a seat-belt. We have slapped a fine of Rs 600 for the two violations under the Motor Vehicle Act and removed the black film," said Patel. Patel was fined inside the premises of the police commissioner's office in the city's Shahibaug area when the former had come to speak to authorities about non-allocation of a place for a fast from August 25 in connection with the Patidar quota demand. The Delhi Assembly Secretariat has paid over Rs 39 lakh as fee to lawyers to fight court cases filed by government officers against House committees in the past one year, Speaker Ram Niwas Goel said today. On the last day of the Monsoon session, Goel said it was a very "serious" issue that officers were going against the committees of Delhi Assembly, which makes laws, and the Lieutenant General was granting permission to bureaucrats to do that. The House adopted a private-member resolution, moved by AAP legislator Shri Dutt Sharma, with a voice vote condemning officers to challenge the powers, privileges and procedure of Delhi Assembly. The bail application was filed last week, and the CBI is likely to file its reply, opposing the plea, by Monday. Indrani, lodged in Byculla prison here, in her application mentioned two occasions when she was hospitalised -- once for suspected drug overdose and again, in April, when she complained of difficulty in breathing. The Madras High Court today extended time till October 8 for an anti-graft body to file further status report in connection with a complaint alleging that state minister K T Rajendra Balaji had amassed wealth disproportionate to his known sources of income. A bench of justices M Sathyanarayanan and R Hemalatha had earlier observed that the preliminary inquiry already carried out by the Directorate of Vigilance and Anti-Corruption (DVAC) was not properly conducted. It had directed the agency to launch the probe afresh by taking the check period from 1996 to 2018, February. The Bihar government has cancelled the registration of Brajesh Thakur's NGO, which ran the infamous shelter home in Muzaffarpur where 34 girls were allegedly raped over a period of time. Senior IAS officer Vinod Kumar was sentenced to three years rigorous imprisonment today for committing financial irregularities in the Odisha Rural Housing Development Corporation (ORHDC) 18 years ago. Special vigilance court judge Shyam Sunder Das also imposed a fine of Rs 25,000 on Kumar and his associate P C Das for the offence. The judge rejected the bail plea of the IAS officer as an non-bailable warrant (NBW) was issued against his name. Kumar and P C Das surrendered before the court today as per the direction of the Orissa High Court. Two more deaf and mute tribal girls have filed a complaint against a city hostel director, who is currently under arrest in a rape case, for molesting them last year, police said today. Ashwini Sharma, director of a hostel for deaf and mute persons in Awadhpuri area here, was arrested on Wednesday based on the complaint by an inmate who alleged that the accused had raped her repeatedly during her stay at the hostel over the past three years. A passenger was apprehended on Friday at the Rajiv Gandhi International Airport (RGIA) in Shamshabad, south of Hyderabad, for illegally possessing foreign currency of various denominations worth over Rs 39 lakhs.The accused was bound to Dubai by flight FZ-436 when the Hyderabad unit of the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence intercepted him. The Congress on Friday demanded resignation of Union Minister of State of Railways Rajen Gohain in a case of alleged rape. A man, who joined the excise department as a constable and rose to become a sub-inspector, was today arrested in Kurnool district after huge assets disproportionate to known sources of income were unearthed. Though the value of the confiscated property has not been revealed, Andhra Pradesh Anti-Corruption Bureau sources estimated that its market value could be several crore rupees. ACB Director General R P Thakur said in a release that raids were conducted simultaneously in Chittoor and Kurnool districts of Andhra Pradesh and Katpadi in neighbouring Tamil Nadu on the properties owned by the accused prohibition and excise department officer Erragoppula Vijay Kumar and his wife Meena. Kumar joined the excise department as a constable in 1992 and rose in ranks to become a sub-inspector. He is currently posted at Naguladinne in Kurnool district. The Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) of Maharashtra police today said it had arrested three members of a suspected right-wing Hindutva outfit and seized a huge quantity of explosives, including crude bombs. Vaibhav Raut (40) and Sharad Kalaskar (25) were arrested last night from Nallasopara in Palghar district and their interrogation led to the arrest of Sudhanva Gondhalekar (39) in Pune. Three persons have been arrested on the charge of beating up a 35-year-old woman at Hazrapara in Khowai district last month, police said today. Two of the accused were arrested today while the third one was picked up on Wednesday. The tribal woman, a mid-day meal worker, was beaten up on her way back from a fair price shop on July 17, the police said but refused to divulge the reason behind the assault. She was in hospital for several days following the assault and she lodged an FIR only on August 8, shortly after being released from hospital, police said. Meanwhile, a video has gone viral on social media where the woman is seen beaten up by the accused. Police said investigation is going on and any video-graphic evidence would be considered. Assam Police have registered a case against Minister of State for Railways Rajen Gohain for allegedly raping and threatening a 24-year old married woman in Nagaon district, a senior police officer said today. Gohain has also filed complaints of blackmailing against the woman and her family, his officer on special duty Sanjiv Goswami said when contacted. A protest march organised by members of the Maldhari community turned violent in Gujarat's Mehsana district today, prompting the police to lob teargas shells to control the situation, an official said. At least 73 people were detained, he said. The march was organised by Maldhari community leaders seeking 'justice' for Raju Rabari, a community member who was killed at Rajpur in the district on July 25.
