Muzaffarpur: Brajesh Thakur's weapon license suspended

The District Magistrate of Muzaffarpur on Friday suspended the weapon license of Brajesh Thakur, the prime accused in the Muzaffarpur shelter case.The District Magistrate, Mohd. Sohail also ordered Thakur to surrender his weapons within 48 hours.Meanwhile, Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar assured strict action against the accused in connection with the case.Addressing a gathering at "Mukhyamantri Kanya Utthan Yojana" programme, Kumar said, "This incident has ashamed us. The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) is investigating the case. Case of sexual abuse, suicide abetment against PSI

Goa Crime Branch today registered an FIR against a sub-inspector for allegedly sexually abusing a woman police constable and abetting her suicide. A case was registered against police sub-inspector Gautam Shetkar under IPC sections 377 (unnatural sex) and 306 (abetment to suicide) after a preliminary investigation, a senior crime branch official said. A newly recruited lady constable, attached to Verna police station, died at a hospital on February 4, 2018 after allegedly consuming poison. Her family alleged that Shetkar had sexually abused her on the previous night. Shetkar has not been arrested in the case yet.

CBI takes over missing MI officer probe

The CBI has taken over investigation into the mysterious disappearance of a Military Intelligence officer from Chennai eight years ago, officials said today. P Gnana Prakasam, working as an examiner in Military Intelligence, a snooping unit under the Army, went missing on June 6, 2010, the officer's wife, Yamuna Gnanaprakasam, had said in a complaint. Posted at the Army Headquarters here, Gnana Prakasam had gone to Chennai to attend a family function. He later went to the central railway station, Chennai to pick up his son who, arriving by a train from Udhagamandalam, according to the complaint. When his wife called him to check whether their son had arrived, the officer told her he was not in a position to pick him up and asked her brother to do so. Petition challenging clean chit to CM Yogi dismissed

The Allahabad High Courttoday rejected a petition challenging the dismissal of a criminal case against Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath in an incident dating back to 1999 when he was the MP of Gorakhpur. After hearing the concerned parties, Justice Saumitra Dayal Singh dismissed the revision petition filed by Talat Aziz, a Samajwadi Party leader. In the petition it was alleged that a meeting was held by Aziz in Mahrajganj on February 10, 1999. But Yogi reached the venue that led to clashes. Ruling TRS MP's son booked on charges of sexual harassment

Ruling TRS MP D Srinivas' son Sanjay has been booked on charges of sexual harassment following a complaint from a woman student of a nursing college in Nizamabad, for which he is the Correspondent. The complaint was made by a woman student today and the case has been registered under different sections of the Indian Penal Code, police said. Sanjay said in Nizamabad that he felt that the charges against him had been levelled "with an ill motive to hurt his family politically." Srinivas, who had served as president of Congress' state unit and also as minister in undivided Andhra Pradesh, had joined the ruling TRS after the formation of Telangana. Four men arrested for looting medicine suppliers in northwest Delhi's Keshav Puram

Four men were arrested for allegedly looting Rs 44.5 lakhs by shooting and injuring two medicine suppliers in northwest Delhi's Keshav Puram, the police said today. The accused were identified as Saddam, Sandeep, Pawan Kumar and Ilteza, they said. Two country made pistols, stolen cash of Rs 21.5 lakh, one gold chain worth Rs 2.5 lakh which was purchased from stolen amount and five mobile phones used in the commission of crime were recovered from their possession, the police said. On July 30, police were informed that four men came in a white swift car and stole cash by firing and injuring two men who were taken to a private hospital in Shalimar Bagh. When police reached the hospital, they found that both the injured identified as Raj Kumar Bhasin and Tejpal Singh were lying unconscious. Groundnut adulteration: 3 held; govt says won't spare anyone

Three people were arrested today in connection with alleged adulteration of groundnuts procured by the Central agency NAFED in Rajkot district of Gujarat even as the state government vowed action in the "scam". As the Congress mounted an attack on the BJP government over "large-scale corruption" in procurement of groundnuts and demanded a judicial probe, Chief Minister Vijay Rupani said no one found guilty of wronging will be spared. Nearly 30,000 sacks of groundnut (each weighing 35kg) were found mixed with sand and pebbles four days back, officials have said. They were kept at a private godown taken on rent by the National Agriculture Co-operative Marketing Federation of India (NAFED) in Pedhla town under Jetpur taluka of Rajkot district, they said. Two minor girls raped in Jharkhand

Two minor girls were allegedly raped in Jharkhand's Seraikela-Kharswan and West Singhbhum district, police said today. A 55-year-old man lured a 11-year-old girl to a lonely place and raped her in Seraikela-Kharswan district on Wednesday, the police said. After the girl narrated her ordeal to her parents, they lodged a complaint against the accused at Rajnagar police station. Based on the complaint, the police lodged a case against the accused under different sections of IPC and Pocso Act and arrested him, they said. In the second incident, a 13-year-old girl was allegedly raped by six persons including four minors in West Singhbhum district, police said. The girl was grazing her cattle when the six accused allegedly raped her on July 26. But the case was registered yesterday as the accused had threatened the girl to keep quite. Woman wants to drop rape charge against BJP leader, Judge asks police to probe any duress

A 21-year-old woman who has accused former BJP MLA Jayanti Bhanushali of rape today told the Gujarat High Court that she will not object if the court decides to quash the FIR filed on her complaint as she had "settled the issue amicably" with the accused. After taking her affidavit to this effect on record, Justice P P Bhatt asked the police to record her statement and also probe if she was being forced to drop the case. The woman appeared in person before Justice Bhatt during the first hearing of Bhanushali's petition seeking quashing of the FIR. When Justice Bhatt asked if she was stating so because of intimidation, the woman said she was under no pressure. Need at least another 3 months to conclude Narada probe: CBI to HC

The CBI told the Calcutta High Court today that it needed at least another three months to conclude its probe in the Narada sting operation case. The agency filed a progress report in the investigation in the case before the court today. After hearing the CBI counsel's submissions, Justice Joymalyo Bagchi directed the central probe agency to file another report after six weeks, stating the progress made in the probe. CBI counsel Amajit De submitted that efforts were on to access the contents of an iPhone, which was allegedly used to carry out the sting operation, and the agency would require at least another three months to conclude the probe. 2 police complaints against Sonowal by TMC

Two police complaints were lodged against Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal in the city today over alleged "manhandling" and "illegal detention" of TMC delegates at the Silchar airport yesterday by Assam police officials, TMC MP Kakoli Ghosh Dastidar said. SC approves settlement between RCom & Ericsson India Pvt Ltd

The Supreme Court today approved the settlement arrived at between Reliance Communications Ltd (RCom) and Ericsson India Pvt Ltd over a payment dispute and asked the Anil Ambani-led firm to pay Rs 550 crore to the company by September 30. Ericsson India Pvt Ltd, which had signed a seven-year deal in 2014 to operate and manage RCom's nationwide telecom network, had alleged that it had not been paid the dues. A bench comprising Justices R F Nariman and Indu Malhotra perused the May 30 interim order of the National Company Law Appellate Tribunal (NCLAT) and noted that Ericsson India Pvt Ltd was willing to settle its debt of over Rs 1,500 crore for a sum of Rs 550 crore which was to be paid by RCom within 120 days.
