Telecom major Bharti Airtel has told the Supreme Court that it would comply with the single judge bench order of the Delhi High Court regarding its advertisements in the IPL coverage. The statement was made before a bench headed by Justices Arun Mishra and U U Lalit which took note of it and disposed of the plea filed by telecom operator Reliance JIO (RJIO) against the High Court order asking Bharti Airtel to make changes to its advertisements offering "live and free access" to IPL coverage by carrying a disclaimer of a larger font size in a prominent and visible place. "It is agreed to by the senior counsel appearing for the respondent that the order passed by the single bench on April 13 is being complied with respect to all forms of advertisements. The Gujarat Criminal Investigation Department (CID) has booked a Surat-based builder for allegedly extorting over Rs 155 crore in cash and bitcoins from two persons, a senior official said today. The builder, Shailesh Bhatt, was the complainant in a bitcoin extortion case. The CID-Crime lodged a fresh FIR against Bhatt and about nine of his accomplices yesterday at Surat after new details emerged during the ongoing probe into the original case, Director General of Police, CID-Crime, Ashish Bhatia, told reporters in Gandhinagar. Two persons, including Shailesh Bhatt's nephew Nikunj Bhatt and Dilip Kanani, were also arrested yesterday from Surat on charges of kidnapping and extorting bitcoins and cash at the builder's behest, he said. After the arrest, the sleuths recovered 152 bitcoins (Rs 8.58 crore), which were in Kanani's wallet, Bhatia said. Markets regulator Sebi today settled separate cases with Meenakshi Enterprises and Aarya Global Shares and Securities, after the two entities paid Rs 12.17 lakh towards settlement. The Securities and Exchange Board of India (Sebi) had initiated adjudication proceedings against Meenakshi Enterprises for allegedly violating disclosure norms under SAST (Substantial Acquisition of Shares and Takeover) Regulations. With regard to Aarya Global, the proceedings were initiated by the regulator for the alleged violation of ICDR (Issue of Captial and Disclosure Requirements) Regulations. As per two separate orders, both entities had submitted applications for settlement of the proceedings while these were still in progress. The regulator's High Powered Advisory Committee (HPAC), after considering the facts and circumstances of the cases as well as the settlement terms offered by the two entities, recommended the settlement of the proceedings on payment of Rs 10.15 lakh by Meenakshi Enterprises .
The Haryana government today issued directives to all heads of departments to prepare a list of cases of loss of public money due to fraud and negligence and name those responsible. While stating this here today, a spokesman of finance department said that they have also been directed to send a status report indicating all such due recoveries with the latest action taken report. He said that it has come to the notice that cases of loss of public money arising from fraud or negligence are not disposed promptly. The cases are sent to finance department to write off the loss after the lapse of considerable time during which the delinquent officers have either retired from service or died as a result it becomes difficult to initiate any disciplinary action against them or to effect recovery, he said. The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on Monday filed a progress report in the Allahabad High Court in connection with the death of the father of a minor girl, who was allegedly raped by Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MLA Kuldeep Singh Sengar last year.The next date of hearing is scheduled for May 30.Earlier in the day, the CBI booked Sengar, who is in police custody on charges of rape. The Supreme Court today asked the Kerala High Court to expeditiously decide a matter relating to a state government notification fixing a minimum monthly basic salary of Rs 20,000 for nurses in private hospitals there. A bench comprising Justices A M Khanwilkar and Navin Sinha was told by the counsel for Kerala private hospitals association that the notification could be kept in abeyance for 2-3 weeks and the division bench of the high court be asked to decide the issue by then. The lawyer said the association had 960 private hospitals, of which 630 hospitals had less than 25 beds. "We will request the high court to deal with it," the bench observed after it was told that a division bench of Kerala High Court had on May 4 said it would take up the matter for further hearing after a month. Police in the central Chinese province of Hubei deployed drones to bust a gambling gang, which often changed its area of operation, and arrested 12 gang members and 49 suspected gamblers, a police official said today. According to the Wuhan Public Security Bureau, police had launched an operation to find the gang, which was active in the cities of Wuhan and Xiantao. But, the gang members often changed their locations, a police official said. On May 15, police deployed drones to spy on a suspected gambling site from where the gang used to operate. The drones helped the police in getting a three-dimensional views of the suspected site and planning their raid, state-run Xinhua news agency reported. Police had recovered over 50,000 yuan (USD 7,836) from them and also seized two point of sale (POS) machines and several equipments being used in gambling, during the raid, the official said.
The Supreme Court today asked Rashtriya Hindu Sena chief Pramod Muthalik to amend his plea and place before it the latest notification issued by the Goa government allegedly prohibiting his entry into the state. A bench comprising Justices A M Khanwilkar and Navin Sinha was told by Muthalik's counsel that "some mischief" was played by the Goa government and another prohibitory order extending ban on his entry has been issued. The bench asked him to place before it the latest notification, if any, in this regard after which the lawyer sought time to file it. The counsel representing Goa opposed the plea and said Muthalik, against whom around 50 criminal cases were pending, should first approach the high court. He claimed there were allegations against Muthalik that he was inciting violence. Two police constables were today placed under suspension after they allegedlymisbehaved with acivilian under the influence of alcohol. Police constables, A Naveen of CAR Headquarters and Rahul attached to Santosh Nagar Police Station were suspended for their 'misconduct,' after they allegedly misbehaved with one civilian in drunken condition, a release from Hyderabad Police said. The Enforcement Directorate took fresh action against Nirav Modi and attached assets worth Rs 170 crore of the absconding diamantaire in connection with its money laundering probe in the over USD 2 billion PNB fraud case, officials said today. They said the central probe agency issued a provisional order under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA) attaching a number of bank accounts, immovable assets and share investments of Nirav Modi, his associates and business-linked firms. Last week, the agency had seized over 34,000 pieces of jewellery worth Rs 85 crore from Gitanjali Group, owned by Nirav Modi's uncle and jeweller Mehul Choksi, also wanted in this case. Nirav Modi and Choksi are being investigated by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) for allegedly cheating Punjab National Bank, the country's second largest lender, to the tune of more than USD 2 billion or over Rs 13,000 crore. A ten-member gang allegedly attacked three people, killing two and seriously injuring another at Valandharavai village near here, police said today. The accused had tied up the trio, belonging to a rival gang, with ropes and attacked them with deadly weapons including, sickles, they said. While Mani (32) and Vijay (26) died on the spot, another person who sustained serious injuries has been admitted to Madurai Government Rajaji hospital, where his condition was said to be critical. Police said the killing was a fallout of bitter rivalry between two groups led by Dharma and Baskaran. The victims belonging to Baskaran's gang had come to the village to attend a function. The attack took place when they were asleep in a nearby garden after consuming liquor. Police suspect the hand of Dharma in the alleged killing of Vijay and Mani.

A bank officer was shot dead today by three bike-borne miscreants in Bihar's Jehanabad district, police said. Alok Chandra, a probationary officer with Bank of Baroda in Arwal, was on his way to office from Jehanabad on a motorcycle when the miscreants intercepted his vehicle near Nehalpur diversion in Parasbigaha police station area and pumped three bullets into him, Station House Officer Aman Anand said. The reason behind the killing is yet to be ascertained, the SHO said. "The bank officer, a man in his mid-30s, died on the spot. His body has been sent to sadar hospital for post-mortem," the officer said. No one has been arrested in this connection so far but the police are investigating into the matter, he added.

The review petition filed by Bombay Lawyers Association has challenged the apex court's April 19 judgment by which it had dismissed a batch of pleas and brought the curtains down on the raging debate over Loya's death. The judge had died of cardiac arrest in Nagpur on December 1, 2014 when he had gone to attend the wedding of a colleague's daughter. In its April 19 verdict, the apex court bench headed by Chief Justice Dipak Misra had ruled that Loya died of "natural causes" and there was no ground for the court to hold that there was reasonable suspicion about the cause or circumstances of death which would merit a further inquiry. An FIR has been lodged here against a man for allegedly raping his 14 year-old daughter, police said. The mother of the victim lodged the FIR yesterday against her husband for raping the teenager several times in the past one year, police station in-charge , Ranajay Singh said. The woman has stated in the FIR that she was living in Surat with the family where her husband raped the girl several times and when she objected she was severely beaten up. The woman and her daughter had come back to their native village recently but her husband followed them and raped the minor again, Singh said. The girl was sent for medical examination which has confirmed rape, Singh said, adding efforts are on to nab the culprit.
