Mexican authorities say nine men have been found murdered in the back of a small cargo truck in the southern state of Guerrero. State prosecutors say in a statement that the men were apparently kidnapped Thursday and reported missing the following night. The truck was discovered Saturday morning along a highway between the state capital, Chilpancingo, and the city of Tixtla. It was registered to one of the victims. Prosecutors say the men lived in Tixtla and Chilpancingo and used the vehicle to sell possibly ill-gotten food products. Guerrero has one of the highest homicide rates of Mexico's 31 states plus the capital district. It is home to opium poppy plantations and splintered gangs at war with each other for control of the drug trade and extortion rackets.
Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu has condemned the incident where a nine-year-old girl was allegedly raped by a 60-year-old man in Guntur.Further warning of the consequences, Naidu said that anyone committing such crime should know it's his last day."It's very painful and shameful. One can understand the pain of her parents. No such incidents should take place. Anyone committing such crime should know it's his last day. Egyptian police have arrested an atheist blogger who was previously detained for promoting his views, a rights lawyer said today. Sherif Gaber was in police custody today and set to be questioned by the prosecution tomorrow, Gamal Eid, head of the Arabic Network for Human Rights Information, told AFP. "He has been arrested and should be questioned tomorrow," Eid said. It was not immediately clear when Gaber was arrested. In late March, Gaber tweeted that "some Muslim lawyers" filed a complaint against him with the attorney general. "I'll probably get arrested in the next few days, but I don't want you to get mad," he wrote. Gaber was detained in 2013 for allegedly promoting atheism. Promoting atheism can be punished in Egypt under a law that bans "insults to religions".
Two men have been arrested for allegedly indulging in online betting on IPL cricket matches in North Delhi's Shakti Nagar, the police said today. The accused were identified as Deepak Kukreja (43) and Vikram Sharma (38) and were nabbed on May 3, they added. On May 3, the police were informed about bets being placed on the IPL match between Chennai Super Kings and Kolkata Knight Riders, the police said. A raid was conducted and the two men were nabbed.
Police arrested 13 persons for allegedly running illegal call centres in the city, an officer said today. During a joint raid conducted by Anti-Rowdy Section (ARS) and Cyber PS officers of Kolkata Police today morning, 13 persons were arrested from eight different places where alleged illegal call centres were operating, he said. Four persons were arrested from a call centre on Topsia Road while two others were nabbed from Tangra area, he said. Three were picked up from a call centre in Kasba and another four persons were arrested from a Tiljala-based call centre, he added. "In all, 13 persons have been arrested for running these illegal call centres. We have seized 25 laptops and desktops and 17 mobile phones. Four cases under specific sections have been started in connection with this matter," he said. All the 13 accused have been remanded in police custody till May 13. The CBI today registered a fresh case against arrested journalist Upendra Rai and his associate Rahul Sharma for allegedly extorting Rs 15 crore from a Mumbai-based builder by portraying himself as an income tax "power broker", officials said. The case comes two days after Rai was arrested by the agency for alleged dubious financial transactions and getting an Aerodrome Access Pass on the basis of false information. The Central Bureau of Investigation said that one of the directors of Mumbai-based White Lion Real Estate Developers Pvt Ltd, Balvinder Singh Malhotra, had filed a complaint with it against Rai. The agency alleged Rai approached Kapil Wadhawan, a relative of the promoters of the company, in September 2017, portraying himself as an income tax power broker. West Bengal Police has arrested BJP leader Mukul Roy's brother-in-law from New Delhi for allegedly duping railway job seekers, a senior official said today. Mukul Roy is a former Trinamool Congress MP. Roy's brother-in-law Srijan Roy was arrested from New Delhi airport late last night by a team of police from Bizpur police station in North 24 Parganas district on the basis of complaints which were filed around six years ago, the police officer said. "Srijan Roy has been arrested for taking money from several people on the pre-text of providing them jobs," a district police official said. Fifteen people, including the main accused, have been arrested in connection with the alleged rape and killing of a minor girl by setting her on fire in Jharkhand's Chatra district, police said today. The victim, who suffered severe burn injuries in the incident, was declared "brought dead" by doctors when she was rushed to a nearby hospital yesterday, police said. "15 people, including the main accused, Dhanu Bhuiyan, have been arrested in connection with the case," IG Sambhu Thakur, who is camping at the site and monitoring the investigation, told PTI. Asked if the girl was gang-raped, Thakur said it would be confirmed only after post-mortem. A 37-year-old man, allegedly involved in the killing of a realtor in Greater Noida, was arrested from MB Road in Southeast Delhi after a brief exchange of fire with police today. Harender Nagar was arrested around 5.30 PM after a brief encounter with the police, said Chinmoy Biswal, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Southeast Delhi). A carbine and a pistol, along with 12 live cartridges, were recovered from him, the police officer said. In a major catch, customs officials have arrested 28 Turkmenistani nationals, including 22 women, for smuggling gold worth about Rs 4.5 crore at Delhi airport. The seizure was done in two cases yesterday. In first case, 23 passengers were intercepted after their arrival from Turkmenistan. Their personal and baggage search resulted in recovery of gold weighing about 15.5 kgs collectively, Additional Commissioner of customs at the airport, Amandeep Singh said. They were carrying gold in the form of multiple gold rings intertwined and crudely given the shape of chain and bracelet, he said. The value of gold, which has been seized, is Rs 4.44 crore in this case. In another case, five other Turkmenistani passengers were intercepted after their arrival at the airport. A special CBI court here today refused bail to Suresh Bhatnagar and his son Sumit, owners of Vadodara-based Diamond Power Infrastructure (DPIL), which is accused of cheating a consortium of banks of Rs 2,654 crore. Special CBI judge N G Dave rejected their bail applications and adjourned to May 10 further hearing on the bail plea of Suresh Bhatnagar's another son, Amit Bhatnagar, who is also an accused. The accused were influential people who defrauded banks by fudging documents, the CBI told the court, adding that the investigation was at a crucial stage and their release could affect it. Advocate S V Raju, the accused's lawyer, argued that the offence of forgery was not made out against them. The lawsuit says Simcox and other Akron officers detained the woman last September in a parking lot suspecting she was there to buy drugs. Simcox looked through the woman's phone and found an offensive photo that he copied with his phone and then shared. The woman says it's not her in the photo.
