Inquiry ordered after child denied treatment at Banda hospital

Banda District Magistrate Divya Prakash Giri on Friday said that they have ordered an inquiry in the death case of a boy who died after being denied medical treatment at a hospital here.He further said that understanding the sensitivity of the matter a committee has also been constituted to look into the same."Inquiry has been ordered and we have also set up a committee in this regard to investigate the matter," Giri told ANI.A family of Uttar Pradesh's Banda had alleged that their child died after a government hospital refused to treat their ailing son.The father of the child said that the hospital denied attending his son as he had no money to pay the fees."Doctors did not treat my son as I did not have money. They were repeatedly asking for money," said the father.Following the incident, the family approached the District Collector with the body of the child demanding justice.

Decision not to conduct class 10 maths re-exam based on trend analysis: CBSE to HC

The CBSE today informed the Delhi High Court that the decision not to conduct re-examination of the Class 10 mathematics paper, which was allegedly leaked, was taken after doing a trend analysis of science, maths and english papers. The CBSE said it was a considered decision and they cannot put lakhs of students in difficulty just for one student who wanted a re-test of maths. A bench of Justices Gita Mittal and C Hari Shankar posed several questions to the counsel for the student, who has been seeking re-conduct of the exam. The court asked the counsel for the student as to what was the difficulty and anxiety about the maths exam and why he was insisting on a fresh exam. "How you client (student) is affected with the decision of not conducting a re-test. When you are asking for such a radical relief, you have to see it in an overall perspective... Kerala artist's house attacked for painting against Kathua rape

Two more held for violence in Morena during Bharat Bandh

Police have arrested two more persons for their alleged involvement in the violence in Morena during the April 2 Bharat Bandh, an officer said. With the arrest of the duo, the total number of those arrested from Morena district in connection with the violence has gone up to 100, police said. "The two accused, identified as Neeraj Chandolia (28) and Jai Kumar (32), were arrested yesterday based on a tip-off," city Kotwali police station in-charge Yogendra Yadav said. "Both the accused had absconded after indulging in violent acts that led to the death of one person in Morena. They were identified based on the CCTV footage," he added. They were carrying a reward of Rs 10,000 each on their heads, Yadav said. Centre to amend POCSO Act to ensure death penalty in child rape till 12-year of age

The Central Government, in a letter, submitted to the Supreme Court on Friday, said that it has started the process to amend the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO)Act to introduce death penalty for rape of minors till 12 year of age.Centre submitted its report while responding to a PIL filed by Advocate Alakh Alok Srivastava, seeking maximum sentence of death penalty to those offenders involved in the rape and brutal murder of children between the age group of 0 to 12.The apex court three-judge bench, headed by Chief Justice of India (CJI) Dipak Misra and comprising of Justices AM Khanwilkar and DY Chandrachud, fixed the matter for further hearing to April 27.In wake of the gang-rape and murder of an eight-year-old girl in Jammu and Kashmir's Kathua district, Union Minister for Women and Child Development Maneka Gandhi had said that her ministry intends to amend the POCSO to make provision for death penalty in such cases.

Another minor raped in Etah

A nine-year-old girl attending a wedding ceremony was raped and murdered by a man here, an incident which comes days after another minor was raped and killed in this western UP town, police said today. The latest incident took place last night when the accused forcibily dragged the nine-year-old who was attending the wedding ceremony of her uncle in Keltha locality of Aliganj police station. "The accused raped the girl and then killed her. On the complaint lodged by the family members of the girl, a case has been registered against the accused for committing rape and murder. IRCTC hotel scam: CBI asked to procure sanctions till May 9

The special CBI court granted more time to the CBI for the procurement of sanctions against accused of IRCTC hotel tender scam, including former Railway minister Lalu Yadav, his wife Rabri Devi and son Tejaswi Yadav and others.The CBI has to file all the related documents in the case till May 9.Earlier this week, the probe agency had filed a charge sheet against Lalu, Rabri and 14 others as part of an investigation in the case.The case pertains to alleged irregularities in allotting a contract to a private company for the maintenance of IRCTC hotels in Ranchi and Puri when Lalu was the railway minister from 2004 to 2009.In July 2017, the CBI registered a corruption case against Lalu, Rabri, Tejashwi and others in the case.

2002 Naroda Patiya riot case: Gujarat HC acquits Maya Kodnani

Gujarat High Court on Friday acquitted former Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) minister Maya Kodnani in the 2002 Naroda Patiya riot case in which 97 Muslims were killed following the Godhra riots.Kodnani was sentenced to 28 years of imprisonment.However, the conviction of Bajrang Dal leader, Babu Bajrangi who had also moved the court challenging the previous ruling, was upheld. HC acquits Kodnani in 2002 riot case, Bajrangi conviction upheld

The Gujarat High Court today acquitted former BJP minister Maya Kodnani in the 2002 Naroda Paitya riots case in which 97 people were killed by a mob. The court, however, upheld the conviction of former Bajrang Dal leader Babu Bajrangi in the case, one of the worst incidents of communal violence triggered by the Godhra train burning. A division bench of Justices Harsha Devani and A S Supehiya pronounced the verdict. The bench said charges against Kodnani could not be established. Bajrangi, whose conviction was uhpeld by the court, was named one of the conspirators in the case. In August 2012, a special court for SIT cases had sentenced 32 people, including Kodnani, to life imprisonment. HC seeks response of Essar promoters on plea against their acquittal in case arising out of 2G scam

The Delhi High Court today sought the response of Essar Group promoters Ravi Kant Ruia and Anshuman Ruia on a CBI plea challenging their acquittal in a case arising out of the probe in the 2G scam case. Justice S P Garg issued notice to the Ruias and six others and sought their replies by May 25 to the CBI's appeal against the trial court decision of December 21, 2017. Besides Ruias, the CBI has also appealed against the acquittal of promoters of Loop Telecom Ltd I P Khaitan and Kiran Khaitan, Essar Group Director (Strategy and Planning) Vikash Saraf and three telecom firms - Loop Telecom, Loop Mobile India and Essar Tele Holding. SC terms public statements on impeachment of judges unfortunate

The Supreme Court today termed as very unfortunate the public statements, including those made by lawmakers, on impeachment of judges. "We are all very disturbed about it," a bench comprising Justices A K Sikri and Ashok Bhushan said after the counsel appearing for the petitioner raised the issue of politicians making public statements on impeachment of judges. The apex court asked Attorney General K K Venugopal to assist it to deal with the plea, which has also sought a gag on the media from reporting such statements. The Supreme Court today dismissed a plea by fugitive don Dawood Ibrahim's mother Ameena Bi Kaskar and sister Haseena Parker challenging the attachment of their properties in Mumbai by the government.
