9-yr-old raped, murdered in Etah

In yet another shocking incident of crime against a minor, a nine-year-old girl was allegedly raped and murdered in Uttar Pradesh's Etah district on late Thursday night.The victim had come to attend a wedding in Etah, where she was lured by the accused man, who took her to a secluded area, raped and killed her.At around 3 am, her body was found near the area in a semi-naked condition.The police arrested a person named Pintu after the victim's family filed an FIR. The accused was a cook at the wedding.Further investigation is underway.

11-year-old girl raped, killed in Chhattisgarh

An 11-year-old girl was allegedly raped and killed by a guest at a wedding in Kabirdham district of Chhattisgarh, police said. Uttam Sahu, the 25-year-old accused, has been arrested, Lal Umed Singh, Superintendent of Police, told PTI by phone. The incident happened on Wednesday night in the district, about 120km from state capital Raipur. Sahu lured the girl away from the village and then raped and killed her by smashing her head with a stone, Singh said. The victim was related to the bridegroom, he said. After committing the crime, Sahu, a resident of nearby Rehauta village, returned and joined the wedding, he said. When the girl did not return home, a search was launched for her and it came to light that she was last seen with Sahu, the police official said. The body was found near a canal yesterday after which police questioned Sahu, who admitted to the crime, Singh said. He has been arrested on charges of murder and rape, he added.

Mentally ill woman kills eight-month-old son

A mentally disturbed woman allegedly killed her eight-month-old baby in outer Delhi's Aman Vihar area, police said today. The incident happened late last night, when the baby boy was with his mother. His two sisters, aged seven and two, were at their grandfather's residence, police said. The woman has been admitted to a hospital.

18 Rohingyas arrested in Tripura

Eighteen Rohingya refugees, including three children and four women, were arrested on Thursday in Tripura's Khowai district for entering the country illegally.Based on specific information, the Rohingyas from Myanmar, who had illegally entered Tripura via Bangladesh, were arrested near Teliamura area.According to police the Rohingyas entered the state and were trying to go to Delhi in search of jobs.Sub-inspector of Tripura police Ranjit Debnath said, "Actually we had input that few Muslim community people from outside, may be Rohingyas, were going to Guwahati in a bus, so we stopped that bus. During the search, we found 11 male, three women along with four children all from Myanmar. Six of them were able to show their identity cards (UNHCR) but rest could not show any identity card. The identity cards revealed that they are citizens of Myanmar and took refuge in India. Unnao rape: Kuldeep Sengar's security cover withdrawn

The Uttar Pradesh government has withdrawn the 'Y' category security cover of rape accused BJP MLA Kuldeep Singh Sengar.The Bangarmau MLA from Unnao district enjoyed 'Y' category security which has a security cover of 11 personnel, including one or two commando and police personnel.The MLA, who was arrested by the CBI this week in connection with the alleged rape of 18-year-old-girl in Uttar Pradesh's Unnao district, is currently in the custody of the agency.The CBI, which is probing the case, has registered three cases against Sengar in regard to the crime he allegedly committed last year.Earlier, Uttar Pradesh Police had charged him under sections 363 (kidnapping), 366 (abduction of woman), 376 (rape), 506 (criminal intimidation) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, and handed over the case to the CBI.

Alabama executes 83-year-old pipe bomb killer

Alabama has executed Walter Moody, an 83-year-old man convicted of murdering a US judge and an attorney with pipe bombs, officials said. Moody is the oldest person to be executed in the United States since the country reinstated capital punishment in the 1970s, replacing John Nixon, who was put to death at age 77 in 2005, according to data from the Death Penalty Information Center. "Walter Leroy Moody has been executed for the 1989 murder of Federal Judge Robert Vance," Alabama Governor Kay Ivey's office said in a statement. "He was also convicted of a similar pipe bomb death of a Georgia attorney," according to a statement from the state's attorney general, Steve Marshall. Vance was killed and his wife injured when a bomb exploded at their home in Birmingham, Alabama, in December 1989. CCI issues important order under Lesser Penalty Provisions in the cartel case by leading Indian Zinc-Carbon Dry Cell Battery Manufacturers

The case against these battery manufacturers was taken-up by CCIsuo motu under Section 19 of the Act based on the disclosure by Panasonic under Section 46 of the Act read with the Lesser Penalty Regulations. During investigation, DG (Investigation), CCI in exercise of the powers vested with it under Section 41(3) of the Act carried-out simultaneous search and seizure operations at the premises of Eveready, Nippo and Panasonic on 23 August 2016 and seized incriminating material and documents there from. Subsequently, while the investigation was in progress and report from the DG was pending, Eveready and Nippo, approached CCI as lesser penalty applicants.

Top battery manufacturers face Rs 213 cr-fine for cartelization

The Competition Commission of India (CCI) on Thursday passed its final order imposing penalty on three leading Indian zinc-carbon dry cell battery manufacturers - Eveready Industries India Ltd. (Eveready), Indo National Ltd. (Nippo), and Panasonic Energy India Co. Ltd. (Panasonic) and their association for colluding to fix prices of zinc-carbon dry cell battery in India.The CCI invoked the provisions of Section 46 of the Competition Act, 2002 read with the Competition Commission of India (lesser penalty) Regulations, 2009 to reduce the penalty imposed upon Panasonic, Eveready and Nippo by 100 percent, 30 percent and 20 percent, respectively.The case against these battery manufacturers was taken up by CCI suo motu under Section 19 of the Act based on the disclosure by Panasonic under Section 46 of the Act read with the Lesser Penalty Regulations.During the investigation, Directorate General (DG), in the exercise of the powers vested with it under Section 41(3) of the Act, carried out ..

Scribe shooting case: 6th accused held for helping attackers

The Kavi Nagar police today arrested a man who allegedly ferried attackers in his vehicle after they shot at and injured TV journalist Anuj Chaudhary earlier this month at Razapur village here, police said. Senior Superintendent of Police Vaibhav Krishna (SSP) said Babloo Kumar was arrested following a tip-off. The SSP said Kumar was nabbed as he alighted from a car on the service road near the Shastri Nagar petrol pump. Babloo is said to be a close aide of Shekhar Chaudhary, the alleged mastermind presently lodged at the Dasna jail, who hatched a conspiracy to eliminate scribe Anuj Chaudhary, he said. Man stabs employer, later commits suicide

A 55-year-old owner of a motor vehicle spare parts shop in southeast Delhi's Govindpuri was allegedly stabbed by her employee, who then killed himself in his house, police said today. A woman informed the police that her mother, Premlata Gaba, had been stabbed at her shop which sells motor spare parts. She was taken to Safdarjung Hospital for treatment. Gaba alleged that she was attacked by one of her employees, Rohit (22), they said. He had been working with her for one-and-a-half years, but had not been coming to work for the last three days. Yesterday, he entered her shop on the pretext of taking a bed sheet which her son had asked for and without any provocation hit her with a kitchen knife and fled, she alleged. Police said Rohit returned to his mother's house in south Delhi's Sangam Vihar. She questioned him about his behaviour and a few minutes later, he allegedly committed suicide by hanging himself using her saree. Further investigation is underway, the police said.

BCI team arrives in Jammu, meets lawyers in Kathua

A five-member team of the Bar Council of India arrived here today and met lawyers in Kathua, who had held protests in connection with the rape and killing of an eight-year-old girl. The team, headed by former chief justice Tarun Agarwal, also visited Rasana and met the agitating people of the area, who are demanding a CBI probe into the incident. The Supreme Court had directed a team of the BCI to visit Jammu and submit its report over the conduct of lawyers from high court bar association and other local associations by April 24. A strike call had been given by the Kathua and the Jammu and Kashmir bar associations in connection with the case. Unnao rape: Accused Shashi Singh kept in jail even after 4-day remand ends

Cop sustains bullet injury, probe on

A 56-year-old police constable, deployed at Sri Krishna Janmasthan, sustained a bullet injury under mysterious circumstances, an official said today. "HCP Satya Narain Upadhyay received bullet injury at 8.52 PM. The actual cause of injury is being ascertained," SP (security) Siddharth Verma said.
