Unnao rape: CBI registers 3 cases against BJP MLA Kuldeep Singh Sengar

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on Friday has registered three cases against Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MLA Kuldeep Singh Sengar for allegedly raping a 16-year-old girl.According to CBI sources, he is being questioned at CBI's Lucknow office.Meanwhile, coming out in support of Sengar, a relative of BJP MLA demanded CBI inquiry into the matter."We ourselves had demanded a CBI inquiry. Two teenage sisters kidnapped; search on

Police said today they have launched a search for two teenage sisters suspected to have been kidnapped by unidentified persons from near their house here early this month. The girls, aged 17 and 15 and residents of Uttan near here, went to a neighbourhood grocery shop on the evening of April 2 but did not return home, they said. Their parents carried out searches on their own at all possible places but did not find them. They finally lodged a complaint yesterday, the police said. It is suspected that both of them have been kidnapped by unidentified persons, they said. An offence under the IPC section 363 (punishment for kidnapping) has been registered with the Uttan Sagari police station and a search is on for the girls, the police added. No arrest has been made so far, they added.

American man indicted for death of Indian-origin student in hit and run case

An American man has been indicted for killing an 18-year-old Indian-origin student in November last year when he dragged her with his truck and ran over her while fleeing the scene of a minor crash. Daniel Coppolo of Deer Park, New York has been arraigned on grand jury indictment charges for the death of Taranjit Parmar in a parking lot in Levittown in Nassau County's Hempstead town, the County's District Attorney Madeline Singas said in a statement. Coppolo was arraigned yesterday before Acting Supreme Court Justice Terence Murphy on charges including of manslaughter, assault, tampering with physical evidence and reckless driving. His bail was continued at USD 1 million bond or USD 600,000 cash and he is due back in court on May 17. If convicted, he faces up to a maximum of 26 years in prison. District administration appeals to people to cooperate in magisterial probe in encounter

The district administration here appealed to people to cooperate in a magisterial inquiry in an encounter where one criminal was killed and three policemen were injured here last month, officials said. On March 25, near Parthala crossing under Noida Phase 3 police station, three policemen and a criminal were injured in an encounter, the city magistrate of Gautam Buddha Nagar informed. Crime branch inspector Balwan Singh and constables Sanjiv and Satyaveer were injured, police said. One criminal, identified as Sharvan, was injured in the encounter, while his accomplice managed to flee, they said. The injured criminal was admitted to a district hospital where he was declared brought dead, police said. The city magistrate conducted the inquiry and said anyone who has some information about the matter can provide details and record their written or oral statement before him by April 20.

Unnao rape: CBI lodges 3 cases, detains Kuldeep Sengar for questioning

The CBI registered three separate cases in connection with the alleged rape of a minor girl by BJP MLA Kuldeep Singh Sengar in Unnao district and detained him for questioning in the early hours today, officials said. The agency has taken over investigation into the three cases referred by the Centre on the request of the Uttar Pradesh government. The cases pertain to the alleged rape of the girl, her father's killing and a case of arms act which was slapped on her father in which he was arrested by local police. He had subsequently died in judicial custody and the autopsy report showed serious injuries on his body. Undertrial prisoner dies in hosiptal

An undertrial prisoner in the Luksar jail here died at a hospital after he complained of chest pain, police said. The prisoner, identified as Shahzad (43) alias Baboo, a resident of Aligarh, complained of chest and abdomen pain on Wednesday, they said. He was admitted to a hospital and died during treatment yesterday, police said. Deputy inspector general Pretinder Singh visited the jail and conducted an inquiry, they said. Jail Superintendent Vipin Kumar Mishra requested the district and session judge for a judicial probe in the matter, police said. Shahzad was an accused in a murder case lodged at the Delhi Gate police station in 2008. In 2009, he was accused of helping a criminal in escaping from the custody of Aligarh police. He was shifted from the Aligarh jail to Luksar jail at Gautam Buddha Nagar last year due to administrative reason.

Banagarmau MLA Kuldeep Singh Sengar is being questioned by the CBI officers, they said. The victim had attempted suicide outside the residence of Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath triggering a massive political row over women's safety in Uttar Pradesh. CBSE paper leak: Bank officials arrested on charges of criminal negligence

The two bank officials, arrested along with a woman in connection with the Class 10 Mathematics paper leak, were nabbed on charges of criminal negligence, the police said today. The accused have been identified as Sheru Ram (35), a branch manager of Union Bank of India, Om Prakash (58), head cashier of the bank and the 40-year-old woman, who had circulated hand-written question papers of Class 12 economics and Class 10 mathematics via WhatsApp. Last week, Rakesh Kumar, Amit Sharma and Ashok Kumar, all employees of DAV Centenary Public School in Una town, were arrested by the Crime Branch. The three men were arrested in connection with the economics paper leak case. Rakesh was also found to be involved in leaking the Mathematics paper.

Man convicted for killing woman, granddaughter in 2011

A sessions court today convicted a man for killing a 53-year-old woman and her granddaughter and stealing gold ornaments worth Rs 3.60 lakh. Judge M S Azmi held Vishal Shrivastav (28) guilty of the crime. The arguments on the sentence is likely to begin from April 16. On June 3, 2011, the bodies of Ranjana Nagotkar and her granddaughter Vaishali (3) were found, with their throats slit, in their flat in Antop Hill area here. Gold ornaments worth Rs 3.60 lakh and Rs 3,500 in cash were missing from the flat. Nagotkar's daughter Sheetal and son-in-law Santosh Railkar were away at work when the incident took place. Police said Shrivastav, who lived in a rented flat nearby, had killed the two after an earlier plan, of lacing their milk with poison (a dead lizard) on June 2, did not work. Shrivastav aroused suspicion when he was seen leaving the area in a saree, but he told police that he was a homosexual and was going to CSMT to meet a partner.
