A sessions court today convicted a man for killing a 53-year-old woman and her granddaughter and stealing gold ornaments worth Rs 3.60 lakh. Judge M S Azmi held Vishal Shrivastav (28) guilty of the crime. The arguments on the sentence is likely to begin from April 16. On June 3, 2011, the bodies of Ranjana Nagotkar and her granddaughter Vaishali (3) were found, with their throats slit, in their flat in Antop Hill area here. Gold ornaments worth Rs 3.60 lakh and Rs 3,500 in cash were missing from the flat. Nagotkar's daughter Sheetal and son-in-law Santosh Railkar were away at work when the incident took place. Police said Shrivastav, who lived in a rented flat nearby, had killed the two after an earlier plan, of lacing their milk with poison (a dead lizard) on June 2, did not work. A 32-year-old woman was stabbed multiple times allegedly by a man with whom she was in a relationship in southeast Delhi's Sarita Vihar, the police said today. The victim had lent Rs five lakh to the accused who wanted to do business. When she asked him to return the money he attacked her yesterday. A suspended police official was today sentenced to ten years in jail by a local court here for sodomising a 16-year-old in 2014. Vilas Kaldhone was convicted and sentenced by Additional Session Judge MA Baraliya under section 377 (unnatural offences) and 506 (criminal intimidation) of the Indian Penal Code. Public prosecutor Geeta Sharma said the victim, who had left home after an altercation, was standing by the road in King's Circle area when Kaldhone, who was under suspension from the police at the time, approached him. Introducing himself as a police official, Kaldhone promised to take him home but instead took him to the terrace of a building in the vicinity and sodomised him, Sharma said. A case was registered at Sion police station and 11 witnesses were examined by the court during the four-year long trial.
A video has surfaced purportedly showing a youth clinging to the bonnet of the vehicle of Ramnagar block development officer (BDO) for about four kilometers. The incident occurred yesterday when villagers went to BDO Pankaj Kumar Gautam demanding second instalment for construction of toilets. A youth identified as Brij Pal tried to stop the BDO but as the official did not stop his vehicle, the youth held the bonnet and kept hanging on it. Four men were arrested in connection with burglaries in computer shops in southeast Delhi's Nehru Place, the police said today. On April 9, a man informed police that computer parts were burgled from his shop in Nehru Place. The next morning, a police patrol found Ramesh Kumar Mishra (37) roaming suspiciously in the area, they said. He was inquired about the reason behind his presence in the area and subsequently he confessed to his involvement in the burglary.
