The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) here has arrested a central school principal for demanding and accepting bribe of Rs one lakh.The CBI arrested the principal of Kendriya Vidyalaya in Ashok Nagar area after a person filed a complaint against him, stating that the accused was demanding money for the admission of his son in the school.Following the complaint, the investigative agency had chalked out a plan to nab the principal red handed.Raids were also conducted at the residence of the accused which led to the recovery of certain documents and keys of three lockers.A case under section 7 of Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988, has been registered against the accused.The accused was later produced before the Principal Special Judge for CBI Cases, Chennai and remanded to judicial custody up to April 24.
A court here today sentenced three brothers to life imprisonment for killing a man at Ratankund Gaja Paysa, under the Kotwali police station limits, in 2011. Additional District Judge Amar Pal Singh sentenced the three brothers -- Mukesh alias Billa, Neeraj and Rakesh alias Ranga -- to life imprisonment and also slapped a fine of Rs 1 lakh each on them. The fourth accused, Balswarup, had died in the jail during the pendency of the trial and the fifth accused, Vijai, the uncle of the three convicts, was killed by unidentified assailants outside the jail. According to the prosecution, the accused had opened fire at Bholeshwar at Ratankund Gaja Paysa at 2 pm on December 21, 2011. Subsequently, Bholeshwar had succumbed to the injuries in a hospital. The Madras High Court has observed that the law of the nation must respect injured soldiers. A division bench of Justices S Vimala and S Ramathilagam made the observation while enhancing the compensation to Havildar Mohan Kumar from Rs 4.57 Lakh to Rs 73 lakh. Mohan Kumar (34), working at the frontier, was seriously injured in an accident during a visit to his native Tiruppathur in 2007. The Motor Accidents Claims Tribunal awarded Rs. 4.57 lakh compensation to Kumar and his wife in 2012. The soldier's family challenged the order in the high court. The bench observed that it was not in dispute that the claimant was totally paralysed and immobile. "It is clear that the claimant would not be in a position to earn any more in his life. Ten alleged drug peddlers were arrested and 12 kg of psychotropic substance recovered from their possession today, as the police launched a crackdown to check sales of cannabis in the city, officials said. Around 12 kg psychotropic substance was confiscated from 10 persons within 24 hours during the raids conducted at several places by the police teams from Vijay Nagar, Loni and Indirapuram stations, a senior official said. The police are constantly conducting raids to check illicit drugs sales here, Superintendent of Police (City) Akash Tomar said. During the raid by the Loni border police team, a stolen bike, a country-made pistol with two live cartridges and two knives were also recovered, he said. The Confederation of All India Traders (CAIT) today held an "All Party Traders Parliament" to demand the stopping the ongoing sealing drive being carried out by municipal corporations. A 20-year-old powerloom worker was arrested from Bihar by Thane Police for allegedly abducting and brutally killing a four-year-old girl from Bhiwandi in 2014, police said today. A senior police officer said the accused, identified as Abed Mohammad Ajmir Shaikh, allegedly killed the girl after her father demanded Rs 1500 he had lent to Shaikh. The girl went missing from near her house in Bhiwandi in Thane district on April 1, 2014. Her highly-decomposed and mutilated body was recovered from bushes near her house after three days. The deceased was identified by her parents on the basis of the clothes she was wearing last, police said. The accused was traced to Marona in Supaul district of Bihar recently, following which he was arrested.

The Madras High Court today dismissed the bail plea of the Managing Director of Subhiksha Trading Services Limited in cases relating to offences, including cheating depositors of Rs 150 crore. The bail application was filed by R Subramanian. Justice A D Jagadish Chandira said the petitioner is alleged to have been involved in offenses of money laundering to the tune of Rs 700 crore. A case was also registered by the CBI in 2013 and the economic offences wing, Chennai, against the firm for having cheated depositors of Rs 150 crore and also with regard to loans availed by petitioner from various Consortium of Bankers. However, the petitioner has not disclosed details on how and in what manner the funds have been utilised, the judge said. Former Finance Minister P Chidambaram's son Karti was today quizzed for nearly 10 hours by the Enforcement Directorate in connection with the Aircel Maxis alleged money laundering case, officials said here. This is the first time that Karti was questioned by the ED in the case related to the Foreign Investment Promotion Board (FIPB) approval granted in 2006 by his father. Karti, who had earlier challenged the ED's summonses issued to him in this case before a court, reached the ED headquarters here about 10.45 am and left after 9 pm, the officials said. A local court here today rejected the bail pleas of 12 accused in connection with the violence during the 'Bharat Bandh' on April 2. Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate Ankur Sharma rejected the bail pleas saying that there was no chance of bail in the case. The police today recovered the burning body of a woman from a forest in Pakur district, who was suspected to have been gangraped before being killed, police said. On being informed by local people, a police team reached the spot near Simaldhav village and found the burning body of the woman in her early 20s. The policemen doused the flames with the help of locals and sent the body for postmortem examination, Sub-divisional Police Officer Shravan Kumar said. The CBI today withdrew from the Delhi High Court the pleas seeking cancellation of bail granted to former chief of Indian Air Force SP Tyagi and two other accused in the Rs 3,600-crore VVIP chopper scam. Justice Anu Malhotra allowed the CBI to withdraw the petitions for cancellation of bail on the grounds that a charge sheet has been filed in the trial court in the case. The petitions are dismissed as withdrawn, the court said, but granted liberty to the agency to take appropriate steps in future for cancellation of bail of the accused, if needed.
