Ltd., Firestar International Pvt. Ltd. etc. situated at Surat and Jaipur. These units are into import and export of diamonds, pearls, and jewellery," read an official statement.In the units situated at SEZ, goods are allowed to be imported duty-free for the purpose of export."The investigation done so far has revealed that there was the difference in the declared stock value of the diamonds and pearls in the SEZ units when compared with the ascertained actual value of the same. A man allegedly hacked his wife and teen-aged daughter to death at their house in North 24 Parganas district, stayed there for two days and tried to commit suicide today, police said. The incident occurred at Machlandapur under Habra police station limits. Sekhar Debnath allegedly killed his wife Mithu and daughter Puja on Saturday, when the two victims were last seen. Puja was appearing for this year's Madhyamik, the school leaving examination of the state board, police said. Debnath replied incoherently when neighbours asked him why his daughter has not been seen going to the examination centre during the day. The neighbours found him heavily drunk, and also got a foul smell coming from his house, police said. Debnath tried to hang himself inside the house but the neighbours entered on time, stopped him and informed the police. A three-and-a-half-year-old girl was allegedly raped by a man in east Delhi's Kalyanpuri area, police said today. The accused, Shankar, took the child, on the pretext of buying her an ice-cream when there was a power cut in the area, the police said. The incident occurred on Saturday, following which the accused was arrested. The girl is currently undergoing treatment at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) here, a police official said. According to the official, the girl stays with her family in Trilokpuri and her father owns a fruit cart. On Saturday, she was standing near her father's cart when there was a power cut. Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) professor Atul Johri, who was arrested for sexual harassment of several women students, was today granted bail by a Delhi court. Duty magistrate Ritu Singh granted bail to Johri and directed him to furnish a bail bond of Rs 30,000 for each of the eight FIRs registered against him. While visiting his daughter's in-laws' place, a 45-year-old man allegedly raped a minor girl in Jalpaiguri district, police said today. He was arrested from Bakali area under Maynaguri police station limits. The man had come from Banarhat in the district to Bakali in the in-laws' house of his daughter and allegedly raped an 11-year-old girl who is a neighbour yesterday, police said. Security forces have arrested a US citizen of Korean origin from near the Indo-Nepal border here in the district, police said today. The Supreme Court today modified its earlier order and extended the tenure of members of the apex consumer commission till May 31. Ther apex court had earlier extended till March 15, the tenure of members of the National Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission (NCDRC) after the Centre had consented to such extensions on the ground that judicial work should not get affected. A wanted criminal was killed and a constable injured in an encounter here in Alinagar area today, police said. Virendra Denvanshi, carrying a reward of Rs 25,000 and a native of Phulpur in Varanasi district was killed during an exchange of fire with the police near Launda village this afternoon, Circle Officer Pradeep Chandel said. Acting on a tip-off that some criminals were moving on motor bikes, a checking drive was held in Alinagar area, where five men on two motor bikes were stopped, he said. They tried to escape by opening fire but the police retaliated and one criminal was injured, he claimed adding that three of his associates managed to escape while one was nabbed. The injured, identified as Denvanshi, was rushed to the district hospital but succumbed to his injuries there, the officer said. The injured constable was undergoing treatment at a hospital in Varanasi district, he said.
