Bangladesh court orders former PM's arrest

5 killed, 1 injured in downtown Puerto Rico shooting

Five people have been killed and one injured in a shooting outside a bar in downtown Puerto Rico. Puerto Rican police said the incident occurred around midnight yesterday in the town of Comerio, about 19 miles southwest of San Juan. Police said that witnesses saw a group of men pull up in a vehicle and begin firing at a crowd of people. Five men between the ages of 20 and 34 were killed, and a 17-year-old boy was injured. Puerto Rico has struggled with a wave of crime since thousands of police officers began calling in sick to protest millions of dollars owed in overtime pay following Hurricanes Irma and Maria. Nearly 130 killings have been reported in the US territory since the beginning of the year.

TV actor files complaint of cheating against event organiser

Thane police today registered a case of cheating against an event organiser after a city-based TV actor lodged a complaint against him for allegedly not paying her dues for an event. Shikha Singh, who has acted in TV serials, alleged that Deepak Chaturvedi, an event organiser, was yet to pay her Rs 11.30 lakh for a show he had organised in Ghana in West Africa in November, said a police official. He had promised to pay her Rs 12 lakh, of which Rs 70,000 were paid in advance, but the rest of the amount was never paid, the complaint said. Chitalsar police here registered a case under section 420 (cheating) of the Indian Penal Code and investigation was underway, the official added.

Palestinian gets life for murder of Israeli ex-girlfriend

A Palestinian was sentenced to life in prison today for the murder of his Israeli ex-girlfriend in a killing authorities said was motivated by nationalism, police said. Mohamed Kharouf, a resident of Nablus in the Israeli-occupied West Bank, was arrested by Israeli police in August 2017 after the body of Mishal Halimi was discovered. The 30-year-old went missing in May, according to media reports, and a crime of passion was suspected as she had been pregnant and married to another man at the time. Israeli authorities said Kharouf later confessed he had carried out the murder for "nationalistic reasons". Halimi had been living in the Adam settlement, near Ramallah in the West Bank, but was killed in central Israel. Kharouf was also ordered by the Israeli court in Tel Aviv to pay 258,000 shekels (USD 74,000) to the victim's family.

Jharkhand High Court Acting Chief Justice D N Patel was hospitalised after he felt giddy during a press conference here today. Justice Patel, who came here to attend a programme of the State Legal Services Authority, is now stable, hospital sources said. Man, allegedly sunbathing on Fort Sinhgad, held for hurting

Police today arrested a 52-year-old man, employee with the state-run Doordarshan, after he was allegedly spotted sunbathing in a naked state at the Sinhgad fort near here. Haveli police in the district said the man, resident of Wanowari, was arrested under sections 295 A (outraging religious sentiments) and 509 (insulting a woman's modesty) of the IPC. A senior police official said a group fort-lovers including some women, who regularly clean the historical fort, spotted him sitting naked in a chair and sunbathing outside the Doordarshan building on the fort today morning. He hurriedly went inside when the group members ticked him off for 'hurting their religious sentiments', the police said. Some of them also shot a video of the incident which went viral on social media. "We will produce him in the court tomorrow," said the officer.

Pakistan should stop protecting internationally recognised terrorists such as Mumbai attack mastermind Hafiz Saeed, its former envoy here has said, while stating that the Pakistani judiciary and law enforcement have lost all respect globally. Man stabs woman several times, arrested

A 26-year-old man was arrested for allegedly stabbing a woman several times, leaving her injured with severe wounds, in Sultanpuri area of outer Delhi, police said. Lucky barged into the woman's house and stabbed her several times yesterday allegedly after his engagement with her was called off, a police officer said. She was admitted to a hospital with injuries on her neck and arms. Her condition is stable, he said. The engagement was called off by the woman's family for his drinking habit and temper, the officer said. The police have registered a case and the matter is being probed, he said.

Three people arrested for stealing Rs 14L of Noida-firm

Three people were arrested today for allegedly stealing over Rs 14 lakh of a Noida-based firm and then claiming that there had been a robbery, police said. The accused were arrested by the Murad Nagar police. One of them Abhishek was a cash collection agent on contract with the firm, they said. They had made a call on the '100' number yesterday claiming that two motorcycle-borne men had looted Rs 14.71 lakh from them near Duhai village on the Delhi-Meerut road, they said. Following the call, police had put up barricades and launched a search operation to nab the robbers. Man attacked by son with spade, admitted to hospital after 2 days

A 70-year-old man sustained serious injuries on his neck and hands, after he was attacked by his son with a spade in Bhainsawa village of this district, the police said today. "Two days ago, Jagdish attacked his father Ramdev Mishra with a spade following a dispute and fled the spot after locking the house. On gaining consciousness after two days, Ramdev asked the neighbours to rescue him," Superintendent of Police Sankalp Sharma said. The neighbours informed the police, who broke open the door and admitted Ramdev to a district hospital, the officer said. "Ramdev's condition is stated to be stable. WhatsApp users receive 'invitation' to join LeT group: UP Police

The Uttar Pradesh Police today said members of a WhatsApp group have received an "invitation" to join another group named "Lashkar-e-Toiba" on the messaging platform, allegedly created by a schoolboy in Rajasthan. The sender of the invitation was a boy studying in Class 9 in Bhilwara district, an Anti-Terrorist Squad officer said. "His father was not (available) today, hence he was not called for questioning. He is likely to be questioned tomorrow," the officer said. The police said they have registered a case in this connection after a youth reported to them that he has received the invitation on WhatsApp from the group named "Lashkar-e-Toiba". Three arrested for killing student in Jammu

Police today arrested three people for allegedly kidnapping a 17-year-old student last week to extort money from his father and then murdering him, officials said. Dheeraj Sharma, alias Tinku, Ankur Arora and Naresh, alias Neshu, were arrested in connection with the murder of Abhay Mahajan, whose body was found in a gunny bag from R S Pura on February 19, two days after he went missing from his house, a police spokesman said. The official said Tinku had called the boy using a stolen SIM card, took him to the Gala Bana area and murdered him with a sharp-edged weapon. Mahajan's father had lodged a complaint with police on February 18, stating that his son went missing a day earlier.

2 policemen arrested in firing incident during marriage function

Two Delhi Police personnel were today arrested and the process for their dismissal initiated in connection with a firing incident during a marriage function here, officials said. Both the personnel, including an assistant sub-inspector (ASI), were posted with the police's Special Cell. In the incident, which took place last night, a man and a woman were injured. Eight persons arrested for allegedly attacking policemen

Eight persons have been arrested for allegedly assaulting policemen at Ulhasnagar in the Thane district. A case of attempt to murder was registered against the accused today morning, a police officer said. Beni Prasad Yadav (34) approached police with a complaint that some persons beat him up yesterday evening. When a police team went to the spot to conduct an inquiry late in the night, the accused attacked them with iron rods, the officer said. Assistant sub-inspector B A Darade and constable V S Dole were seriously injured in the attack, and Darade was admitted to the Central Hospital in Ulhasnagar, the officer added. Christian man jumps off FIA building in Pakistan

A Christian man accused of blasphemy in Pakistan reportedly jumped off the fourth floor of the building of an investigation agency here, according to officials. Sajjad Masih, 28, who has been in critical condition at Mayo Hospital, said the FIA had called him to their headquarters at Regal Chowk to record statement. He said the officials allegedly tortured him and snatched his mobile phone. They asked me to abuse myself, but I refused to do so. Arms dealer arrested in Delhi

A team of the Special cell under the Delhi Police on Sunday arrested an arms and ammunition supplier.The accused Shripal Singh, 29 is also involved in theft and cheating, said police.
