A constable of Mumbai police was arrested for allegedly cheating four persons to the tune of Rs 88 lakh by posing as the chief of the Special Protection Group (SPG) in CBI, police said today. The Kasarwadwali police arrested the constable Anant Prasad Pandey (54), a resident of Nalasopara in the district. According to police, Pandey, who was attached to the Yellow Gate police station, had not reported to work since December last year. "Posing as the SPG chief in CBI, he promised various things to different victims between March 2016 and December 2017 and took Rs 88 lakh from them," a police officer said. He promised to give a liquor licence, stalls at railway stations and jobs as raiway ticket checker to different victims, the officer added. Three Indians have been jailed in Singapore for their involvement in consensual sexual acts with a 13-year-old girl in 2016, a media report said today. Gill Gurjant Singh, 25, and Surjeet Singh, 29, were each sentenced to 15 months in prison for the crime, The Straits Times reported. Jugraj Singh, 33, was jailed for eight months for committing an indecent act on the Singaporean minor. Offenders convicted of having consensual sexual intercourse with a minor below 14 years old can be jailed for up to 20 years and fined or caned, according to the report. All the three men are Indian construction workers, the report said. They had met the girl in May 2016 in Little India, a precinct of shops, eateries, pubs, motels and hotels, where she was hanging out with her friends, Deputy Public Prosecutor Jesintha Veijayaratnam said. A Delhi Police Head Constable who was found with bullet wound at a Delhi hospital died on Tuesday.Head Constable Rajender was found with gunshot wound on Tuesday afternoon inside a ward at Rajan Babu T.B Hospital in north Delhi's G.T.B. Five people have been sentenced to seven years of imprisonment by a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) special court in connection with the 2012 Police recruitment examination scam.The charge-sheet filed by the CBI on September 13, last year had said that a candidate who was to appear in the constable recruitment exam from Jawaharlal Nehru College of Technology in Rewa skipped the exam and an imposter had appeared on his behalf.The imposter was arranged by the candidate's family through a middleman.The Special Task Force (STF), which had earlier investigated the case, had made the candidate, his father and uncle accused in the matter, but, after the CBI took over probe, middleman and impersonator were also made accused.The court held all the accused guilty under sections 419, 420, 465, 467, 468, 471 and 120 (b) of Indian Penal Code (IPC) and section 3 (4) of MP Recognised Examination Act.

In a tragic incident, an 18-month-old girl died after she accidentally fell into a cauldron containing hot chutney in her house in Shastri Nagar area in Ambernath today, police said. The toddler's father sells idlis and had prepared tomato chutney, they said. The incident occurred in the early hours today when the girl, identified as Tanushka, fell into the cauldron, an official said. She was rushed to hospital in Ulhas Nagar where she succumbed to her burn injuries. It is not yet clear how she reached near the cauldron in the early hours, he said.

Nine persons have been arrested for allegedly stealing aluminium wires worth over Rs 24 lakh, police said today. The wires were to be used for the works of the Parli Warora 765 KV High Voltage Transmission Line and the accused had stolen them on February 6, a senior police official said. Acting on a tip-off, police personnel arrested one Amol Rathod (25), who had helped four members of a gang to steal the wires, he said. Rathod them gave names of the four gang-members following which they were apprehended, the officer said, adding four others who aided the gang members were also arrested.
