A 28-year-old man was grievously injured after his bike was allegedly hit by a overspeeding car in Dwarka on Sunday morning, police said. The victim, identified as Amit Singh, works at a private firm here. Singh hails from Kangra in Himachal Pradesh and resides here in Dwarka Mor with his family, they said. The incident took place at Lovely Chowk when an overspeeding sports utility vehicle hit a road-divider, and then broke through a park wall, a senior police officer said. The car had also hit a bike, leaving its rider seriously injured, he said, The injured was rushed to a nearby hospital where he is undergoing treatment and is said to be out of danger, he said. A 35-year-old man died due to heatstroke in Maharashtra's Akola district where the mercury has been soaring for last few says, a police official said on Sunday. Sheshrao Jaware, a resident of Lahanumbri village in Akola, located around 580 km from here, was found unconscious outside the gate of a women's hospital there on Friday evening, he said. He was rushed to the civil hospital where doctors declared him brought dead, he said. The postmortem report on Saturday revealed that Jaware died after suffering a heatstroke, Ramdas Path police station's senior inspector Shailesh Sapkal said. Akola has been experiencing heat wave for the last few days, he said. On Friday, the district's maximum temperature was 46.4 degree Celsius and on Sunday it crossed 47 degree Celsius, the official said.

A suspected love affair in Bhangela village here led to a clash between two families in which those from the girl's side attacked four persons with stones, leaving them critically injured, police said Sunday. The girl's lover was among the four assaulted on Saturday, Station House Officer (SHO), Khatoli, Harsharan Sharma said. A case was registered against Meherchand, his wife Kamlesh, his brother Nehal and a relative identified as Kanti -- all family members of the girl, he said. An officer in rural Tennessee shot the suspect in the investigation into the discovery of five bodies in two homes, capping an hours-long manhunt that ended with his capture. Tennessee Bureau of Investigation spokesman Josh DeVine said Michael Cummins, 25, was taken into custody that night about a mile (1.6 kilometers) away from one of the Sumner County crime scenes. Cummins was shot after he emerged from the woods, is believed to have produced multiple weapons and the situation escalated, DeVine said. Pledged gold jewels worth Rs two crore and Rs one lakh cash were allegedly looted by a masked man from a private finance firm here after he assaulted two women employees, police said Sunday. The man covering his face with a handkerchief entered the office of the company Saturday evening when only the two women were present and assaulted them rendering them unconscious before taking away the jewels and cash, they said. The women after regaining consciousness informed police who along with fingerprint experts and a sniffer dog arrived at the office and began investigations. Five special police teams have been formed to catch the man, police said adding they were questioning the women employees. CCTV footage, both in the office and also at the entrance of the building, showed a man moving around with a handkerchief covering his face. There was no security personnel at the office at the time of the incident, police added.
Five inmates, including three life convicts, of the district jail here have scored first division in class 10 board exams of the Uttar Pradesh Madhyamik Shiksha Parishad (UPMSP). The results of the examination were declared on Saturday. According to Jail Superintendent A K Saxena, the inmates had appeared for the exams in Dasna Jail, Ghaziabad. The three life convicts passing the examination are Kapil, Pankaj and Vipul Kumar. A woman tourist was found dead inside a hotel room here, the police said on Sunday.The deceased was identified as Alka Saini who is a resident of Himachal Pradesh and had come to visit Goa with her boyfriend Sukhwinder Singh and was staying in the hotel where the duo checked in on April 20."We got information about the woman's death from the hotel management at around 5 pm. The CBI has taken over the investigation into alleged sexual harassment of a woman in Pollachi town of Tamil Nadu's Coimbatore district by a gang of men who had shot a video of her and blackmailed her demanding money, officials said. The agency has registered two FIRs in the matter -- one pertaining to sexual harassment of the woman and second related to assault on her brother -- against different sets of the accused, they said. The CBI has began the probe on the request of the Tamil Nadu government on March 12. The gang is believed to have sexually harassed and blackmailed a large number of women in Tamil Nadu which triggered an outrage in the state. Citing the need for specialised attention, dedicated investigation with technical expertise and the extremely serious nature of the crime, the government had given its consent transferring the harassment and a related assault case from the state's CB-CID to the CBI. A man and a woman were arrested for allegedly killing their father over property dispute in Shamli district of Uttar Pradesh, police said Sunday. Body of Panna Lal, 65, who was missing since February 18, was found at the house of his son at Thanabhawan town in Shamli district on Friday, they said. During investigation it was found that Lal was killed by his son, Sunil Kumar, and daughter, Lata, as there was some property dispute between them, SHO Sandeep Balyan said. The body has been sent for post-mortem, he said.
