Rajasthan: 2 held, five cartons of liquor seized
Rajasthan police has arrested two people and seized five cartons of liquor from their possession here in Dungarpur."Based on a tip-off, we found two cartons of liquor from a vehicle outside a showroom and arrested two people in the case. After interrogating them, three more cartons were recovered from the showroom," said police.The arrests were made on Saturday.A case has been registered and investigation is underway.

Araku MLA murder case: Maoist cadre held, handed over to NIA
One person, a member of Nandpur Area Committee of CPI Maoist and one of the accused in Araku MLA Kidari Sarveswara Rao murder case, was arrested by Koraput police on Saturday and handed over to National Investigation Agency (NIA).The arrested person has been identified as Jayaram Khilla of Tala Kandapalli village in Padwa panchayat of Dumrbiguda in Visakhapatnam district.Last year in September, two political leaders, including sitting Telegu Desam Party (TDP) Member of Legislative Assembly (MLA) Kidari Sarveswara Rao, were shot dead by Naxals in Dumbriguda Mandal of Andhra Pradesh's Visakhapatnam district.The other person who fell prey to the ultras was former TDP MLA Siveri Soma.Rao and Soma were shot dead while they were on their way to participate in Gramadarsini program in the interior village in Dubriguda Mandal, police said.The accused has been booked under various sections of Arms act, Indian Penal code and Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act."Khilla will be taken on remand by

A case of dowry harassment has been filed against retired Tamil Nadu High Court Judge N N Rama Mohan Rao, his wife Durga Jayalaxmi and son Vasista here, police said.Avinash Mohanthy, DCP with the CCS police told ANI over the phone that the case was filed after receiving a complaint against a woman Sindhu Sharma who claimed that she had been staying with Vasistha since their marriage in the year 2012. The couple also has two daughters.As per Sindhu's complaint, her husband and in-laws had been harassing her for dowry and husband had beaten her up too due to which she received injuries and was admitted to a hospital.Police said on Friday a counselling session was also conducted with both the parties but no headway was made and the complainant requested to register a case.A case has been registered under relevant sections against Vasishta, Rammohan Rao and his wife Durga Lakshmi.
CBI starts probe into Pollachi sex scandal
CBI has registered two cases and begun an investigation into the Pollachi sex scandal case. BJD candidate held for attacking magistrate gets bail
A special court here Saturday granted conditional bail to BJD candidate and sitting MLA Pradeep Maharathy who was arrested on the charge of attacking a magistrate of the Election Commission's flying squad. The court granted bail to the MLA on a surety of Rs 50,000 with a condition not to influence the witnesses, government pleader Pradipta Kumar Mishra said. The court also directed him to cooperate with police in the investigation. Earlier, police had submitted the case diary and injury report in the court. Inmate dies in hospital; family stages protest against police
A 55-year-old convict died at a hospital here due multiple organ failure, police said Saturday. Family members of the deceased, Mohammad Ramzan, carried out a protest as they accused the police of beating and thrashing him. According to the police, Ramzan, an inmate of the Kota central jail who was serving a sentence for murder, died at the New Medical College Hospital (NMCH) on Friday night after prolonged illness. Ramzan, a resident of Mangrol town of Rajasthan's Baran district, suffered from a severe kidney problem and was admitted to the NMCH on March 23 and again on April 25. He was admitted to SMS hospital in Jaipur from April 21-25, said Kota central jail superintendent Suman Maliwal. The doctors at the SMS hospital said both of Ramzan's kidneys had failed and he was under medical observation at the NMCH, Maliwal said. "Not even once during this period when his health deteriorated did he stay in the jail," the jail superintendent said. A medical board carried out a post-mortem .

Pakistan's former military dictator Pervez Musharraf, who is facing high treason case, is likely to return to the country on May 1, his lawyer said on Saturday. A special court indicted General (retd) Musharraf, 75, for high treason in March 2014. He left for Dubai in 2016 to "seek medical treatment" and has not returned since. A Telugu Desam Party leader bound for Hyderabad by a private airlines flight was detained at the Renigunta airport, near here, Saturday for carrying 20 bullets, an airport official said. The party leader from Kadapa district of Andhra Pradesh was handed over to police by the airport authorities as the bullets were detected during scanning, the official said. After preliminary inquiry, the passenger was found to have a valid gun licence, police said. Journalist held for circulating 'fake letter'
A journalist was arrested here Saturday for allegedly circulating a "fake letter,"purportedly written by home minister M B Patil to Congress supremo Sonia Gandhi in 2017 on religion tag to the Lingayat sect. The Madras High Court Saturday dismissed a petition seeking a direction to the Election Commission to reject the nomination of DMK candidate Senthil Balaji for the Aravakurichi Assembly bypoll. Man accused of killing wife and stabbing daughter arrested
A 52-year-old man who had fled after allegedly killing his wife and attacking his soon-to-be-married daughter was arrested Saturday, police said. Mohan Mahajan, the accused, was nabbed from Vasargaon in Thane district, a police official said. Mahajan, who drove an auto-rickshaw, often fought with his wife and was living separately for the last two years, police said. The family lived in Thankar pada locality of Kalyan in the district. On the night of April 25, he visited his family and picked a quarrel during which he allegedly stabbed his wife Manisha(45) with a knife. When the couple's daughter Gauravi (24) tried to intervene, Mahajan allegedly stabbed her too. While Manisha died on the way to hospital, Gauravi, who was to get married on May 8, is battling for life at a hospital, police said. 'Notorious' criminal booked under PSA in J-K's Ramban
A "notorious" criminal, who also used to be in the forefront of anti-national protests, was Saturday booked under the stringent Public Safety Act (PSA) in Ramban district of Jammu and Kashmir, a police spokesman said. Bahar Ahmed Dar, a resident of Darpura tehsil of Banihal, was booked under the PSA and lodged in Kot Bhalwal Jail, Jammu, on the directions of district magistrate, Ramban, he said. "Dar is a known history sheeter of the area (Banihal) and as many as six FIRs related to narcotic smuggling, robbery and rioting stand registered against him at the local police station," the spokesman said. Boy held for electrocuting girl after sexual harassment
A plus-two student was arrested Saturday for allegedly killing a class VII girl by electrocuting her after sexually harassing her, police said. The 12-year old girl was found dead in her house near Vadamathurai in the district, and a case of suspicious death was registered, the police said. Investigation revealed the boy had sexually harassed the girl and then killed her by electrocution, they said. The parents of the girl staged an agitation demanding the arrest of the accused, they added.
