The Madras High Court Friday quashed an order passed by the Income Tax department sanctioning criminal prosecution against the family members of former Union minister P Chidambaram in a black money case. When the petitions by Chidambaram's wife Nalini, his son Karti and daughter-in-law Srinidhi came up, a division bench of justices S Manikumar and Subramania Prasad said no case was made out and quashed the criminal prosecution. The writ petitions were filed challenging the criminal prosecution initiated by the I-T Department against them. On October 12, the high court had extended the interim order dispensing with the appearance of Chidambaram's family members before a special court here till Friday, in the case of 'non-disclosure' of foreign assets filed against them by the I-T Department. The issue pertains to alleged non-disclosure of overseas assets and bank accounts held by the three. According to the I-T Department, the three had failed to disclose a property they jointly own .

The Supreme Court Friday dismissed the CBI's appeal against the Delhi High Court's 2005 verdict discharging all the accused, including Hinduja brothers, in the politically-sensitive Rs 64 crore Bofors pay-off case. A bench headed by Chief Justice Ranjan Gogoi rejected the CBI plea seeking condonation of the 13 year delay in filing the appeal against the May 31, 2005 judgement of the high court. It said it was not convinced with the grounds of the CBI to condone over 4,500 days' delay in filing the appeal. The CBI had filed the appeal on February 2 this year. The apex court, however, said the CBI can raise all grounds in the appeal against the same high court verdict filed by advocate Ajay Agrawal who has also challenged the judgement. The Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) in Himachal Pradesh is all set to make new DNA technology upgrades to its State and Range Forensic Science Laboratories (RFSLs) that will increase the number of cases being analysed.The FSL in Junga is the first in the country to initiate well-equipped DNA facilities in all its labs across the state. Justices Hemant Gupta, R Subhash Reddy, M R Shah and Ajay Rastogi were Friday sworn in as judges of the Supreme Court, taking its strength to 28. The swearing-in ceremony started at 10:30 am in court number 1 of the apex court and Chief Justice Ranjan Gogoi administered oath of office to the four judges. The president had Thursday given his assent to the recommendation of the Supreme Court Collegium for elevating Gupta, Reddy, Shah and Rastogi, who were chief justices of different high courts, as apex court judges. While Justice Gupta was the chief justice of the Madhya Pradesh High Court, Justice Reddy was the Gujarat High Court's chief justice. Three Delhi Traffic Police officials on Thursday rescued a newborn girl child from the area near RK Khanna Tennis Stadium here.The baby was immediately rushed to the Safdarjung Hospital.On Wednesday, Head Constable Anil, Constable Amar Singh and Constable Parveen were regulating traffic and prosecuting traffic violations near R.K. Khanna Tennis Stadium. At about 4:00 pm they heard wailing of a baby from the bushes. Following a month-long deadline of an awareness campaign against the use of polythene and plastic bags, the Odisha government has banned the use of polythene in six major cities of the state.As per the directives, all plastic items less than 50 micromax thickness will be banned in Bhubaneswar, Cuttack, Berhampur, Sambalpur, Rourkela and Puri, read a statement."The state government will strictly enforce the ban in six cities.
