Bihar: 1 convicted for possession of illegal arms, fake Indian currency

In an Enforcement Directorate case in Patna, a Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA) Special court has convicted a person for possession of illegal arms and fake Indian currency notes.The person identified as Mohammad Naushad has been sentenced to five years of rigorous imprisonment besides being imposed a fine of Rs five lakh.An FIR was registered in the matter on November 25, 2009, at Mofussil Police station of Munger district for the commission of offences punishable under section 25(I-B)(a)/26 of the Arms Act, 1959.Another FIR was also filed against Naushad under Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act 1967, consequent to the recovery of Rs.1,40,000/- FICN (Fake Indian Currency Notes) from his residence.The Enforcement Directorate initiated a PMLA case against Naushad in 2013. The operator of a New York limousine company has been charged with criminally negligent homicide after the deadliest accident in the United States for nearly a decade, police confirmed Thursday. Seventeen passengers, the driver and two pedestrians were killed when an SUV-style stretch vehicle careened out of control on Saturday in Schoharie, a town about three hours' drive north of Manhattan. Pak HC judge sacked over remarks against ISI

Pakistan President Arif Alvi sacked a high court judge on Thursday after a high-level constitutional body recommended his removal for making a scathing speech against the country's powerful spy agency ISI. The Supreme Judicial Council (SJC) had recommended to remove Islamabad High Court (IHC) Justice Shaukat Aziz Siddiqui, who was facing a case of alleged misconduct over his controversial speech targeting the Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI). Justice Siddiqui while addressing the Rawalpindi District Bar Association on July 21 had alleged that the ISI was manipulating judicial proceedings to constitute panel of judges to get favourable decisions. The army had asked the chief justice of Pakistan to take the notice of the remarks after IHC chief justice Anwar Kansi rejected the allegations against Siddique. Woman found dead in Delhi hotel

The body of a 25-year-old woman, with a telephone wire wrapped around her neck, was found inside a hotel room in central Delhi's Paharganj area on Thursday, police said. The police were informed in the evening after the hotel staff spotted the body, they said. The woman was rushed to a nearby hospital where she was declared brought dead, a police officer said. Police said the woman had checked into the hotel in the afternoon with a man, who is missing since the time of incident. A case has been registered and a probe in underway, they said.

MP HC commutes rape convict's death sentence to life term

The Madhya Pradesh High Court on Thursday commuted the death sentence of a man convicted of raping a minor girl to life term. A division bench of Chief Justice Hemant Gupta and Justice V K Shukla held that the case against Bhaggi alias Bhagirath alias Naran (40) did not fall in the category of 'rarest of rare' to warrant capital punishment. On July 7, a trial court in Sagar district had awarded the death sentence to Bhaggi after finding him guilty of abduction and rape of a nine-year-old girl. He was accused of luring the girl to a temple and raping her on May 21. The trial court had sentenced him as per the amended provisions of the Indian Penal Code and the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act in Madhya Pradesh, wherein capital punishment can be awarded in a rape case if the victim is under 12 years of age.

'Man held with lover for trying to kill wife near Ganga Canal '

A man has been arrested along with his girlfriend while trying to dump his critically injured wife at a secluded place near Ganga Canal in Murad Nagar after shooting at her, the police said Thursday. Man arrested for decamping with truck carrying copper wire worth crores: Police

A 23-year-old man has been arrested for allegedly decamping with a truck carrying copper wire meant to be exported to Jordan from National Highway-8, which connects Delhi and Jaipur, police said Thursday. Abid, a resident of Bharatpur district in Rajasthan, was arrested after the Crime Branch received information he was to come to Bamnoli village in Delhi to sell more than 12,000 kg of stolen copper wire. The wire and the truck have been recovered, they said. The wire was to be exported to Jordan, said Ajit Singla, additional commissioner of police (crime). Abid, a truck driver by profession, disclosed that he and his brother-in-law, Roja Khan, had decamped with the truck loaded with copper wire of a fellow driver, Singla said. Abid was trying to sell the wire when he was arrested. The police team is now looking for Roja, said Singla. The Punjab and Haryana High Court Thursday gave interim relief to former Punjab DGP SumedhSingh Saini while directing the state government to give a week's notice to the former top cop in case police proposes to arrest him, if any case is made out against him. UP STF nabs wanted contract killer from Delhi

The Uttar Pradesh Special Task Force (STF) on Thursday arrested from Delhi an alleged contract killer wanted in multiple cases of murder, agency officials said. 34-yr-old man arrested for posing as IPS officer

The Delhi Police Thursday arrested a 34-year-old man who allegedly posed as an IPS officer and drove a car with a beacon and police's logo to create an impression amongst his friends from West Delhi's Subhash Nagar, officials said Thursday. The accused, Divay Malhotra, was involved in the crime for the last two years, they said. At around 10.20 pm on Wednesday, a car flashing beacon lights with a logo of the Delhi Police was spotted coming from Meenakshi Garden towards Subhash Nagar, Deputy Commissioner of Police (West) Monika Bhardwaj said.
