VHP flags 'sky-high' fare for Prayagraj flights, seeks govt intervention

The Vishva Hindu Parishad on Monday claimed devotees were facing "serious inconveniences" in visiting the Maha Kumbh Mela due to the "exorbitant hike" in fares for flights to Prayagraj by some airlines and urged the government to take immediate steps to address the issue. Raising the issue, VHP national spokesperson Vinod Bansal said while the Uttar Pradesh government is taking full care of providing security and facilities to the devotees, many religious, social and philanthropic organisations, as well as people, are engaged in selfless service for the convenience of the devotees visiting at Kumbh Mela. "But, some airline companies are resorting to an exorbitant hike in airfare taking unfair advantage of the increasing number of passengers. Isro releases satellite images of Maha Kumbh Mela tent city, Sangam

The Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) on Wednesday released before and after satellite images of the tent city here giving an insight into the grandeur of the Maha Kumbh which is drawing crores of people from across the world to take a holy dip at the Sangam. Maha Kumbh, a mega-religious event organised every 12 years, is being held in Prayagraj from January 13 and will continue for 45 days till February 26. More than eight crore pilgrims have taken a holy dip at the Sangam so far. A massive fire broke out in the Maha Kumbh Mela area on Sunday due to a cylinder blast, police said, but there was no immediate news of any casualty.
