Maruti Suzuki India on Saturday reported a marginal year-on-year increase in total sales at 1,99,400 units in February. The company sold a total of 1,97,471 units in the same month last year, Maruti Suzuki India (MSI) said in a statement. Total domestic passenger vehicle sales were at 1,60,791 units last month as compared with 1,60,271 units in the year-ago month, a marginal year-on-year growth, it added. Sales of mini segment cars, comprising Alto and S-Presso, declined to 10,226 units as against 14,782 units in same month last year. Sales of compact cars, including Baleno, Celerio, Dzire, Ignis, Swift, and WagonR, rose to 72,942 units as compared to 71,627 units in the year-ago month. Utility vehicles, consisting of Grand Vitara Brezza, Ertiga, XL6, Jimny clocked sales of 65,033 units last month as compared to 61,234 units earlier. Passenger vehicle exports from India rose by 2.68 lakh units in the last four financial years with Maruti Suzuki India accounting for nearly 70 per cent of the incremental shipments during the period. As per the industry data, passenger vehicle exports in the 2020-21 fiscal stood at 4,04,397 units. It rose to 5,77,875 units in the 2021-22 fiscal year and to 6,62,703 units in 2022-23 financial year. Last fiscal, exports stood at 6,72,105 units, an increase of 2,67,708 units since 2020-21. In the last three fiscal years, Maruti Suzuki has accounted for 70 per cent of the incremental 2,67,708 units across the industry which were shipped to overseas markets. The auto major's export shipment increased by 1,85,774 units between FY21 and FY24. Maruti Suzuki India expects its CNG car sales to rise over 30 per cent to around 6 lakh units this fiscal, according to a senior company official. The country's largest carmaker also aims to export around 3 lakh units in the ongoing financial year. "So CNG, this year, we did about 4,50,000 (units) in passenger vehicles. We are hoping to do something like 6,00,000 vehicles in FY24-25," Maruti Suzuki India Executive Director Corporate Affairs Rahul Bharti said in an analyst call. The company sells CNG trims across various models like WagonR, Brezza, Dzire, and Ertiga, among others in the domestic market. Bharti said the company's capacity expansion by around 1 lakh units per annum at its Manesar plant, Haryana largely addresses the Ertiga supply issues. Maruti Suzuki India (MSI) on Wednesday said its Gujarat-based unit has crossed 30 lakh cumulative production milestone. Suzuki Motor Gujarat (SMG) has surpassed the milestone within a span of around 6 years and 11 months since commencing operations in February 2017, MSI said in a statement. SMG has an annual production capacity of 7.5 lakh units and the vehicles manufactured at the plant are sold in both domestic as well as export markets. "With the acquisition of Suzuki Motor Gujarat, we are further enhancing our production flexibility. The production of our battery electric vehicles will also be undertaken at the Gujarat plant and is expected to start in FY 2024-25," MSI MD and CEO Hisashi Takeuchi stated. Currently, the facility rolls out some of the popular models like Swift, Baleno, Dzire and Fronx. The country's largest carmaker Maruti Suzuki India (MSI) on Thursday reported 10 per cent increase in total wholesales at 1,78,083 units in May. The company had sold 1,61,413 units in May 2022, MSI said in a statement. Last month, the company's domestic sales rose 13 per cent to 1,51,606 units as against 1,34,222 units in May 2022, it added. Total domestic passenger vehicle sales were higher 15 per cent to 1,43,708 units as compared with 1,24,474 units in the same month last year. Sales of mini cars, comprising Alto and S-Presso, fell 30 per cent to 12,236 units as compared with 17,408 units in the year-ago period. Compact cars sales, including models such as Swift, Celerio, Ignis, Baleno and Dzire, increased 5 per cent to 71,419 units as against 67,947 units in May 2022. Maruti Suzuki India on Wednesday said its total wholesales increased 5 per cent to 1,72,321 units in February. The country's largest carmaker had dispatched 1,64,056 units to its dealers in February 2022. Domestic wholesales rose 11 per cent to 1,55,114 units as compared with 1,40,035 units in February last year, the automaker said in a regulatory filing. Maruti Suzuki India is eyeing a leadership position in the SUV segment as it continues to add new products across various sub segments, a top company official said on Wednesday. The country's largest carmaker has bolstered its presence in the high volume entry and mid level SUV segments with new Brezza and all new model -- Grand Vitara.
