Cities in Delhi-NCR and covered under the National Clean Air Programme have utilised less than 40 per cent of the funds allocated to curb air pollution levels, the Centre informed Parliament on Thursday. According to data presented by Union Minister of State for Environment Ashwini Kumar Choubey, the central government released Rs 428.61 crore to Delhi, Noida, Alwar, Meerut, Faridabad and Ghaziabad between 2019-20 and 2023-24. An expenditure of around Rs 18,160 crore has been incurred on the Delhi-Ghaziabad-Meerut RRTS corridor till October 31 this year and the project has achieved 67.3 per cent physical progress, the Rajya Sabha was informed on Monday. In a written response to a question, Minister of State for Housing and Urban Affairs Kaushal Kishore said the Delhi-Ghaziabad-Meerut Regional Rapid Transit System (RRTS) corridor was sanctioned at a cost of Rs 30,274 crore. The National Capital Region Transport Corporation (NCRTC) is implementing India's first semi-high-speed regional rail service project. In October, it was renamed 'Namo Bharat'. The amount for the last instalment is Rs 415 crore and will total around Rs 485 crore after taxes, said a senior government official. The National Capital Region Transport Corporation has completed tunnelling in the Meerut section of the Delhi-Ghaziabad-Meerut RRTS, officials said on Tuesday. The underground section in Meerut comprises of three stations, namely Meerut Central, Bhainsali and Begumpul connecting the Delhi-Ghaziabad-Meerut Regional Rapid Transit System (RRTS) corridor. To connect these stations, a total of six parallel tunnels have been constructed in three segments. The sixth and last tunnel stretches over one kilometre between Bhainsali to Begumpul.
