MG Motor India posts 18% growth in retail sales at 56,902 units in 2023

MG Motor India on Monday reported an 18 per cent growth in total retail sales at 56,902 units in 2023 as compared to the previous year. In December 2023, the company's retail sales were 4,400 units, up 13 per cent from the year-ago month, MG Motor India said in a statement. The company further said with a growth of 18 per cent in 2023 it recorded the fourth consecutive year of growth. It had around 25 per cent of its total sales coming from electric vehicle (EV) models, it said. The company's flagship EV, ZS, the Comet have sold around 20,000 units till date.

MG Motor India to hike prices from January owing to rising overall costs

MG Motor India on Monday said it will hike prices of its vehicles in the country with effect from January 2024. The hike is owing to the rising costs attributed to overall inflation and increased commodity prices, the company said in a statement. MG Motor, however, did not disclose the quantum of price hike it plans to take from next month. Maruti Suzuki, Mahindra & Mahindra and Audi India have also announced plans to hike prices of their passenger vehicles in January 2024 citing reasons, including cost pressure driven by overall inflation and increased commodity rates. Besides, Tata Motors and Mercedes-Benz India are mulling increasing the prices of their models from January.

MG Motor India retail sales increase by 2% to 4,154 units in November

MG Motor India on Friday said its retail sales increased by 2 per cent to 4,154 units in November 2023. The automaker had sold 4,079 units in November 2022. EV sales continued to account for around 30 per cent of the total vehicles sold last month, MG Motor India said in a statement. The recent collaboration with Charge Zone reasserts the focus of the company on boosting EV infrastructure and it has so far established a network of more than 12,000 chargers across the country, it added.

MG Motor India exploring options for a second plant, says official

Chinese car maker MG Motor India is exploring the possibility of setting up a second plant in the country, a company official said. Currently, the company has a manufacturing plant at Halol in Gujarat where the production capacity is 1.2 lakh units per annum. "We are exploring the option of putting up a second plant in India. It generally takes two to three years for a new plant to come into stream", Gaurav Gupta, deputy managing director of MG Motor India said on Wednesday evening. The company has not identified so far the location of the possible second plant. Starting operations in India four years back in 2019, the company is presently having five models and selling around 5,000 units per month. Out of the five models, two are electric vehicles (EV), he said. Gupta said the company plans to introduce a new model every year in India, either on the EV or ICE (internal combustion engine) platforms. MG Motor India on Friday reported a 9 per cent year-on-year increase in retail sales at 4,185 units in August. The automaker had sold 3,823 units in August 2022. The carmaker is gearing up and building further on the current momentum in the festive season, MG Motor India said in a statement.
