BAFTA 2024: 'Oppenheimer' wins seven prizes, including Best Picture, actor

Atom bomb epic Oppenheimer won seven prizes, including best picture, director and actor, at the 77th British Academy Film Awards on Sunday, cementing its front-runner status for the Oscars next month. Gothic fantasia Poor Things took five prizes and Holocaust drama The Zone of Interest won three. Christopher Nolan won his first Best Director BAFTA for Oppenheimer, and Cillian Murphy won the best actor prize for playing physicist J. Robert Oppenheimer, the father of the atomic bomb. Murphy said he was grateful to play such a colossally knotty, complex character." Emma Stone was named best actress for playing the wild and spirited Bella Baxter in Poor Things, a steampunk-style visual extravaganza that won prizes for visual effects, production design, costume design, and makeup and hair. 'Oppenheimer', 'Poor Things' lead race for Britain's Bafta film awards

Atom-bomb epic Oppenheimer leads the race for the British Academy Film Awards, with nominations in 13 categories including best film. Gothic fantasia Poor Things received 11 nominations on the list announced Thursday, while historical epic Killers of the Flower Moon and Holocaust drama The Zone of Interest had nine each. Other leading contenders include French courtroom drama Anatomy of a Fall school story The Holdovers and Leonard Bernstein biopic Maestro with seven nominations each. Cinema daily shows up to 623 in 2022, theatre attendance drops: Delhi govt

The average number of cinema shows per day rose from 450 in 2010 to 623 in 2022 but the average number of cinema goers per day declined in the last 13 years, according to the Delhi Statistical Handbook-2023. The number of theatres in Delhi rose from 129 in 2008 to 137 in 2022, with the peak point being in 2017, when the number was 142, it said. The handbook containing data on socio-economic parameters of the national capital was released by the Delhi government's Economic and Statistics department. The number of multiplexes has also risen from 21 in 2008 to 33 in 2022, the handbook said. The average number of cinema goers per day was 90,000 in 2010 when the theatres, including multiplexes, were showing an average of 450 shows per day. With the average number of shows going up to 510, 98,000 cinema goers visited cinema halls on an average per day in 2011.
