'Traitor' jibe case: Kunal Kamra skips third summons from Mumbai police

Stand-up comedian Kunal Kamra failed to appear before the Mumbai police on Saturday in connection with a case registered against him for allegedly passing a "traitor" jibe at Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde, an official said. This is the third time Kamra has given police summons a miss, the official said. Mumbai Police to file criminal cases for drunk driving, seize vehicles

Mumbai police has decided to register criminal cases against those indulging in drunk driving since such incidents have seen a sharp rise in the last couple of years, a senior official said on Thursday. A notification to this effect was issued by Joint Commissioner of Police (Traffic) Anil Kumbhare, he said. While registering cases, the licence of the drunk driver will be impounded and his vehicle will be seized, the official added. "Taking serious cognizance of rise in cases, the traffic wing of Mumbai Police has decided to file criminal cases against drunk drivers under section 125 of Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita for act endangering life or personal safety of others apart from provisions of Motor Vehicles Act at the local police station," Kumbhare told PTI. Police on Tuesday issued a third summons to stand-up comedian Kunal Kamra and asked him to appear before them on April 5 in a case filed for allegedly making derogatory remarks on Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde at a show in Mumbai, officials said. Kamra (36) has been asked to appear before officials of the Khar Police Station in suburban Mumbai where the first FIR against him was registered last month, they said. The Mumbai police's closure report in the Disha Salian death case had termed it a suicide and asserted she was battling depression due to various reasons, including misuse of her money by her father, an official said on Friday. Disha Salian was a former manager of actor Sushant Singh Rajput. She allegedly committed suicide by jumping off the 12th floor of her building in Jankalyan Nagar in north Mumbai's Malad area on June 8, 2020, as per police. The closure report by Malvani police, which probed the incident, was submitted to a superior officer (as per rules for accidental death report) on February 4, 2021. As part of the probe, Malvani police recorded statements of her friends and some witnesses, during which it came to light that she was depressed due to some failed projects, misunderstanding with friends and misuse of her money by her father, the official said. New India Bank case: EOW conducts polygraph test on ex-GM Hitesh Mehta

The Mumbai police on Tuesday conducted a polygraph test on New India Cooperative Bank Limited's former general manager and head of accounts, Hitesh Mehta, who is the prime accused in the Rs 122 crore embezzlement case, officials said. A team of the Economic Offences Wing (EOW) of the police will also visit the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) and meet senior officers soon to collect information about why the central bank conducted an inspection on February 12, which uncovered the discrepancies, and not prior to that, an official said. "The polygraph test, also called a lie detector test, was conducted on Mehta at the Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) in Mumbai's Kalina this afternoon," he said. The Mumbai police's economic offences wing (EOW) has searched the residence of New India Cooperative Bank's former chairman Hiren Bhanu in connection with the embezzlement of Rs 122 crore at the lender, officials said on Wednesday. During the search, EOW recovered several documents, which police are examining, an official said. The house search was conducted in the Malabar Hill area of south Mumbai, where Hiren Bhanu and his wife Gauri Bhanu stayed in a rented flat, an official said. Gauri previously held the position of vice chairman at the bank. The couple also own a flat at Nepean Sea Road which they have rented out, an official said. Both are wanted accused in the Rs 122-crore embezzlement case.
