Zydus Lifesciences on Thursday said it has joined hands with oncology firm Guardant Health to jointly promote a portfolio of liquid and tissue biopsy tests across India and Nepal. The companies have inked a co-marketing agreement to jointly promote the Guardant360 portfolio in India and Nepal. The tests to be promoted include the Guardant360 and Guardant360 TissueNext tests for comprehensive genomic profiling and the Guardant360 Response test for monitoring response to treatment, the drug maker said in a statement. The agreement demonstrates a shared commitment to advance precision medicine and improve patient outcomes in the region, it added. 12 Indian pilgrims injured in road accident 25 km west of Kathmandu

Twelve Indian pilgrims and a Nepali driver were injured when the SUV they were travelling overturned some 25 km west of Kathmandu on Tuesday morning, police said. The vehicle carrying the 12 pilgrims, including three children, overturned after the driver lost control at Indrsarowar Rural Municipality, near Matatirtha area in Makawanpur district. The vehicle was heading towards Kathmandu from Birgunj, a southern Nepal town. The injured passengers were taken to Kathmandu for treatment, the police said. The 25-year-old driver, identified as Anil Kumar Sah, has been detained for the purpose of investigation. The Indian nationals were on a pilgrimage tour of the Kathmandu Valley on the occasion of the Hindu festival Vijaya Dashami.

Magnitude 4.3 earthquake jolts Nepal, second in less than 24 hours

An earthquake of magnitude 4.3 on the Richter Scale, jolted Nepal on Sunday, according to the National Center for Seismology (NCS).This is the second quake that has struck the Himalayan nation in less than 24 hours.The NCS stated that the earthquake occurred at 17:18:57 IST on Sunday at a depth of 5 kilometres.Taking to X, the NCS stated, "Earthquake of Magnitude:4.3, Occurred on 22-10-2023, 17:18:57 IST, Lat: 28.03 & Long: 84.74, Depth: 5 Km, Location: Nepal"Meanwhile, earlier today, a strong quake of 5.3 also jolted Nepal. Operation Ajay: 143 people, including two Nepalese, fly out of Israel

A special flight carrying 143 persons, including two Nepalese citizens and four infants, wanting to leave Israel amidst the Israel-Hamas conflict, left for India on Sunday as part of 'Operation Ajay'. It was the sixth flight as part of Operation Ajay launched on October 12 to facilitate the return of those Indian nationals who wish to return home following the brazen attacks on Israeli towns by Hamas militants from Gaza on October 7. The flight is carrying 143 persons, including two Nepalese citizens and four infants, informed sources told PTI. 6.1 magnitude earthquake hits Kathmandu Valley, no casualty reported

An earthquake measuring 6.1 on the Richter scale on Sunday hit Kathmandu, the capital city of Nepal. According to the National Earthquake Monitoring and Research Centre, the earthquake with epicentre in Dhading district was recorded at 7:39 am. There was no report of any death or damage resulting from the tremor. The jolt was also felt in other districts of Bagmati and Gandaki provinces. Earthquakes are common in Nepal which is situated on the ridge where the Tibetan and Indian tectonic plates meet and advance two meters closer to one another every century which results in pressure which is released in the form of earthquakes. A 7.8 magnitude earthquake and subsequent aftershocks killed around 9,000 people in 2015. As the government's post-disaster needs assessment (PDNA) report noted, Nepal is the 11th most earthquake-prone country in the world.

254 Nepali students rescued from conflict-ridden Israel return home

A group of 254 Nepali students rescued from the strife-torn Israel and led by Foreign Minister N P Saud arrived in Kathmandu on Friday. A Nepal Airlines flight that took off from Israel's Ben Gurion International Airport on Thursday landed at Tribhuvan International Airport here this morning after a stopover in Dubai. Speaking to the media at the airport, Foreign Minister Saud, who flew to Israel a day before to facilitate the rescue mission, said the remaining Nepalis who have requested repatriation would be rescued soon. The minister said 557 Nepalis had provided their details in response to a request from the Embassy of Nepal in Tel Aviv to those wishing to return to Nepal or relocate to safer places. "Out of the 557 Nepalis, 503 had applied to return to Nepal and among them 254 have returned home today with us," he was quoted as saying by the Himalayan Times newspaper. Ten Nepali nationals have been killed and four others injured in Israel after the Palestinian militant group Hamas launched a wave of rocket attacks in the country's southern region, Nepal's foreign ministry said on Monday. Nepal's tourism bounces back, receives nearly 700,000 tourists in 9 months

Nepal received around 7 lakh tourists in the first nine months of 2023 as the Himalayan nation gradually recovers from the onslaught of the coronavirus pandemic, according to official data. The data released by the Nepal Tourism Board (NTB) said a total of 692,372 tourists entered the country by air from January to September this year. We have achieved 98 per cent recovery in tourist arrival in September this year, said Mani Lama, director of Nepal Tourism Board. The government has set a target of bringing in one million foreign tourists in 2023. In September alone, 91,012 tourists visited Nepal, of which 28,694 tourists came from India, 8,174 from China, 7,364 from America, and 3,716 tourists came from Bangladesh. Meanwhile, 3,685 tourists came from Australia, 3, 640 from the United Kingdom, 3,011 from Sri Lanka, 2, 852 from Germany, 2,018 from South Korea and 1,0734 from Israel visited the Himalayan nation in September. Last year, only 58,314 tourists visited during the same .

India allows Nepal to sell electricity in its real-time energy market

India has allowed Nepal to sell electricity generated through two hydropower projects in its real-time energy market starting Saturday midnight, according to the Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA). It is for the first time that India granted project-wise approval ensuring that Nepal could sell hydroelectricity in India's Real-Time Market (RTM). The Central Electricity Authority of India has allowed the trading of 44 MW of electricity generated from the 19.4 MW Lower Modi and 24.25 MW Kabeli B-1 hydropower projects in the real-time market in the first phase, according to Suresh Bahadur Bhattarai, the spokesperson at the NEA. Bhattarai said approval had been received for the sale of electricity from two projects in both the day-ahead and the real-time markets.
