Prince Harry and his wife Meghan were involved in a "near catastrophic car chase" involving "highly aggressive" paparazzi for over two hours in New York, a spokesperson for the couple said on Wednesday. Trump appealing New York jury's sexual abuse verdict, $5 million award

Former President Donald Trump is appealing a New York jury's verdict awarding $5 million to a magazine columnist after the jurors concluded Trump had sexually abused her in the 1990s and defamed her last October. A notice of appeal was filed Thursday in Manhattan federal court, the first step in a process that will move the civil case brought against Trump by writer E Jean Carroll to a three-judge panel of the 2nd US Circuit Court of Appeals. The notice was signed by Trump attorney Joe Tacopina, who said after Tuesday's verdict that he believed there were multiple strong grounds for appeal. The nine-person jury concluded after less than three hours of deliberations that Carroll had failed to prove it was more likely than not that Trump had raped her in the dressing room of a Bergdorf Goodman store in early spring 1996. But it did find that she had been sexually abused. It also said in its verdict that Trump defamed Carroll in a social media statement last October. Carroll sued Tru

Secret Chinese police outpost revealed in New York; 2 men arrested

Two men have been arrested on charges that they helped establish a secret police outpost in New York City on behalf of the Chinese government, and more than three dozen officers with China's national police force have been charged with using social media to harass dissidents inside the United States, the Justice Department said Monday. The cases, taken together, are part of a series of Justice Department prosecutions in recent years aimed at disrupting Chinese government efforts to locate in America pro-democracy activists and others who are openly critical of Beijing's policies. One of the cases concerns a local branch of the Chinese Ministry of Public Security, which operated inside an office building in Manhattan's Chinatown neighbourhood before closing last fall amid an FBI investigation. The two men charged with establishing the outpost were acting under the direction and control of a Chinese government official, and deleted communication with that official from their phones ..

Donald Trump's House GOP allies take fight to Manhattan DA's turf

Republicans upset with Donald Trump's indictment are escalating their war on the prosecutor who charged him, trying to embarrass Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg on his home turf partly by falsely portraying New York City as a place overrun by crime. The House Judiciary Committee, led by Ohio Republican Jim Jordan, held a field hearing Monday near Bragg's offices to examine the Democrat's pro-crime, anti-victim policies. New York City has "lost its way when it comes to fighting crime and upholding the law," Jordan said. Here in Manhattan, the scales of justice are weighed down by politics. For the district attorney justice isn't blind it's about advancing opportunities to promote a political agenda a radical political agenda. Democrats said the hearing was a partisan stunt aimed at amplifying conservative anger at Bragg, Manhattan's first Black district attorney. It is really troubling that American taxpayers' dollars are being used to come here on this junket to do an ...

Trump legal woes likely to go beyond 2024, says Indian-American attorney

The legal battle of former US president Donald Trump is unlikely to end soon and could go even beyond the 2024 presidential elections, a leading Indian-American attorney has said, observing that a presidential pardon also cannot be applied in this case. Trump, 76, on Tuesday, was arraigned in a criminal case in New York. He became the first former US president to be indicted, arrested and arraigned on criminal charges. The Republican, the leading candidate from the party for the 2024 race for the White House, pleaded not guilty to 34 criminal charges of falsifying business records in person before State Supreme Court Justice Juan M Merchan. It wouldn't be unusual if this case took two years or more to try, which means by next summer of 2024 when the conventions are being held, this case will not have been tried. In fact, it may not even be tried before the election takes place (in November 2024), Indian-American attorney from New York Ravi Batra told PTI after Trump's arraignment in
