India vs New Zealand: Kane Williamson to miss third Test in Mumbai

Senior batter Kane Williamson will miss the third Test against India at Mumbai to ensure full recovery from a groin injury ahead of the home series versus England, starting from November 28. Williamson did not play in the first two Tests against India, which the Kiwis won to take an unassailable 2-0 lead in the three-match series. It also ended India's 18-series winning streak at home dating back to 2012. The final Test of the rubber will be played at the Wankhede Stadium from November 1. "Kane continues to show good signs, but isn't quite ready to jump on a plane and join us," NZ head coach Gary Stead said in a media release. "While things are looking promising, we think the best course of action is for him to stay in New Zealand and focus on the final part of his rehabilitation so he'll be good to go for England," Stead added. The first Test between New Zealand and England will be played at Christchurch. "The England series is still a month away so taking the cautious approach

Gambhir's concern as India face transition with limited bowling options

India's qualification for the World Test Championship final in June next year is hanging in balance and even if they make the grade for the third consecutive time, it will be a massive surprise if skipper Rohit Sharma stays available for the next two-year WTC cycle. Ditto for Ravichandran Ashwin, who will be 41 by then. Ravindra Jadeja and Virat Kohli, the two supremely fit men, will be 39. The embarrassing Test series defeat at home against New Zealand has already triggered a debate around the effectiveness of a few seniors. Ravi Shastri could only empathize with Gambhir. "New Zealand have beaten them (India) handsomely in both the Test matches. It's food for thought (on series loss). He (Gambhir) has just taken over the job. It's never easy being coach of a team that has such a big following," Shastri said while commentating during the second Test in Pune. "It's still early days in his career as a coach. But he'll soon learn." There is no doubt India are looking at a tough ...

India look to seal series as NZ's Amelie Kerr exits ODIs due to injury

India will seek a better performance from batters in their quest to seal the series when they face New Zealand in the second women's ODI here on Sunday. Even though India won the first match comfortably by 59 runs, batters squandered starts as their innings were littered with multiple 30s and 40s. The hosts would want a change of script in this match, and skipper Smirti Mandhana will have to lead the charge, which in the last match was done by debutant Tejal Hasabnis. The elegant left-hander got out for eight in the opening match, continuing her lean run over the last month or so. She can fall back upon the memories of a fine run against South Africa earlier this July when she cracked runs for fun, including two big hundreds. Along with Mandhana's form, the Indian camp will also keep an eye on the fitness of regular skipper Harmanpreet Kaur, who missed the previous match with an unspecified niggle. On the bowling front, India will be delighted with debutant pacer Saima Thakor's .

IND vs NZ: Shocking to get Virat Kohli out off a full toss - Santner

Having spun the second Test and, perhaps, the series in New Zealand's favour with his career-best 7/53, Mitchell Santner admitted it was shocking' to clean up Virat Kohli on a full toss here on Friday. Santner's seven-for handed New Zealand a handy 103-run lead in the first innings on a low, slow surface, which the Kiwis stretched to 301 by end of play. The left-arm spinner's outstanding spell included the scalp of Kohli as India collapsed to 156 all out in the first innings. I was in more of a shock getting Kohli out off the full toss. He doesn't usually miss those, Santner replied when asked how much he enjoyed getting India's premier batter out in the manner he did. It was slightly slower through the air. I just tried to change it up a little bit, but usually if you bowl those, they go for six. There was obviously a little bit there which was nice and the change of pace was key today, he told the media. Santner said despite having a huge 301-run lead, New Zealand batters still
