Restaurants and hospitals here are offering discounts on their services to citizens who go out to vote in the Lok Sabha elections on April 26. The initiative called Democracy Discount allows the citizens to avail 20 per cent discount in restaurants in Noida and Greater Noida by showing their finger with voter ink on April 26 and April 27. National Restaurants Association of India (NRAI) has exhorted member companies for the initiative, which has seen about two dozen restaurants in the constituency coming on board till Wednesday. Realty firm Experion Developers will invest about Rs 1,500 crore to develop a luxury housing project in Noida as part of its expansion plans amid sharp rise in demand for residential properties. Gurugram-based Experion Developers has registered its new project 'Experion Elements' with real estate regulatory authority, RERA, for launch. The company, a wholly owned subsidiary of Experion Holdings Pte Ltd, Singapore, will develop around 320 housing units in this 4.7-acre project at Noida in Uttar Pradesh. As many as 7,575 trees have been felled on a nearly 16-km-long section of the Delhi-Dehradun Expressway and over 1.76 lakh are to be planted in compensation for it, according to the National Highways Authority of India. Of the felled trees on the Ganeshpur-Dehradun section of the project, 4,983 were in Uttarakhand, while 2,592 were in Uttar Pradesh, the NHAI said in response to a query filed under provisions of the Right To Information (RTI) Act. In the RTI query, Noida-based social activist Amit Gupta also sought to know the status of replantation and survival of trees on the 15.8-km-long section of the Delhi-Dehradun Expressway. The fire at a dumping yard in Noida simmered for the fourth day on Thursday even as 150 personnel of the Fire Service Department continued with their round-the-clock efforts to completely douse it, according to officials. As many as 15 fire tenders are deployed at the spot and an estimated 35 lakh litres of water has been used to control the fire, which was by Thursday evening contained to less than 15 per cent of the area and was expected to be completely doused by Friday, a senior officer said. The fire broke out at a plot in Sector 32 which was being used as a dumping yard of Noida Authority's horticulture department to store pruned trees. The site was filled with dry leaves and twigs too, where some unidentified miscreants allegedly ignited fire around 6 pm on Monday -- the day of the Holi festival -- according to authority officials. No religious prayers or processions would be allowed at public places or disputed sites across Noida and Greater Noida on Monday (Holi), the Gautam Buddh Nagar Police said on Sunday as it imposed CrPC section 144 across the district. Police also ordered that no person shall consume "liquor or intoxicating substances" at any public place and warned action under IPC section 188 (disobedience to order duly promulgated by a public servant) for violation of the order. The arrest of the duo comes close on the heels of the police nabbing Yadav on Sunday after questioning him in the case. As many as 11,682 defacements, including wall writings, posters and banners, were removed in Gautam Buddh Nagar district within 72 hours in line with the model code of conduct for the Lok Sabha election, according to official data. Realty firm Godrej Properties Ltd has bought 6.46-acre land in Noida for around Rs 500 crore to develop a housing project with an estimated revenue of Rs 3,000 crore, as part of its expansion plan to tap rising demand. In a regulatory filing on Tuesday, the company informed it has been "declared the highest bidder and has secured the allotment letter to develop a prime land parcel in Noida through an e-auction conducted by the NOIDA development authority." Spread over 6.46 acres, the land is located in Sector 44, Noida. The company did not divulge the deal value, but sources said the company bought this land for Rs 506 crore. The decision has been taken in view of proposed protest marches called by the farmers' body Samyukta Kisan Morcha (SKM) and other unions. The Bharatiya Kisan Union, part of SKM, had earlier called for a 'Bharat Bandh' on February 16, citing a host of unmet demands of farmers.
