North Korea confirms successful test fire of hypersonic missile

The Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) has successfully test-fired a hypersonic missile, the official Korean Central News Agency reported on Thursday.The missile, launched by the Academy of Defence Science on Wednesday, manoeuvred 120 km laterally before it precisely hit a target 700 km away, which proved the reliability of a new fuel system, the report said.This is the second test fire of hypersonic missile confirmed by the DPRK after the country launched Hwasong-8 in September.The "successive successes in the test launches" in the hypersonic missile sector "have strategic significance in that they hasten a task for modernizing strategic armed force of the state," it added.The reliability of the fuel system under the winter weather conditions was also verified, the report said.

Unidentified person crosses militariszed border from S Korea to North Korea

An unidentified person crossed the heavily militarized border from South Korea into North Korea on Sunday.As per the South Korean military, the person was spotted at the eastern front of the Demilitarized Zone (DMZ) at around 9:20 pm local time on Saturday, reported CNN.South Korea's Joint Chiefs of Staff (JCS) said that the person was detected by the military with the use of a thermal observation device.The JCS said troops were dispatched but they were unable to find the person, who crossed the Military Demarcation Line into North Korea at around 10:40 pm.A military official said security cameras had earlier captured the person climbing a barbed wire fence at around 6:40 pm Saturday, but the guard on CCTV duty had missed it, reported CNN.The official said they were currently working to identify the person and that it is unknown whether the person was still alive.Meanwhile, North Korean state media has not reported on any crossings over the DMZ overnight.

Chief of Air Staff, Air Chief Marshal VR Chaudhari held extensive talks with the top military brass of the Republic of Korea to further enhance bilateral military ties. North Korea opened a key political conference Monday to review past projects and discuss new policies amid the pandemic and a diplomatic deadlock with the United States. The official Korean Central News Agency said Tuesday that leader Kim Jong Un presided over a plenary meeting of the Central Committee of the ruling Workers' Party. The report did not carry any remarks by Kim. The meeting approved unspecified agenda items and went into the discussions of them, KCNA said. The report said the meeting would review major polices this year and decide on the strategic and tactical policies and practical tasks for dynamically guiding the struggle of our party and people to usher in a new period of the development of socialist construction to the next stage of victory.
